  1. If you do that in rush hour here people will poke their noses out and cut you off. I almost got side swiped doing it, and swore I wouldn't do it again. It is, however, illegal here (I believe).

    WTB - bindings

TD's, Cateks, Burton? I have two pair of Burton Race plates I need to part with. One is the rat-trap step-in type and the other are older toe-bail type, but the latter is all metal and are very sturdy.
  3. I like the fact that we are the minority. Let them ostracize us. Anybody that can't appreciate what we do is a complete idiot. I think tele is the most beautiful thing on snow, but I wouldn't dare call them pansy a$$ mogul makers. This guy just has zero tact.
  4. Check your policy and maybe they'll cover it. I'm not an insurance agent, but my wife backed into somebody at the post office and it was her fault, but the dude bailed when she said she wanted to call the cops to file a report. Apparently when the other party "hit and runs" it's their fault no matter what. AAA let us use our uninsured motorist portion of our policy(which in a lot of policies is included with liability) to file a claim. The deductible was $250 for us which was the standard. Another nice thing about this was that uninsured motirist claims don't affect your driving record. That was worth $250 to me, and she got a new bumper out of it. Its worth your time checking into it either way. Make sure your story leaves no room to lay blame on yourself, and hopefully you have a police report to back it up... Good luck! JPW
  5. Mark, Wanna hook up sometime? I live in ABQ (NW). I've been searching for NM hardbooters on this site. Guess you missed my prior post. Seen a few at Angel Fire but I'm always on the lift as they are carving or vice-versa. Almost caught two of em yesterday but they *poofed* on me. I have been going to Angel Fire every Sunday this season (well almost) and will surely be going more through March. Pass ends there 4/1/05. Was thinking about a Col. trip later this month or in early April when things start warming up down here. Also I was thinking about hitting Sandia sometime this week, maybe Wed. I think their base is almost 90" now. I normally work Mon-Fri but I gotta burn a sick day and hit Sandia before they close... Do you go anywhere else other than Santa Fe? I've never been outside the ski area there, but it sounds like a blast! John
  6. Yeah I mentioned before that I put the cant on the back foot and was flat up front and I hated it. Once I switched it around it seemed 100X better, but this goes back to my original question of whether I should be toughing it out and getting used to ackward feelings or making changes to improve comfort (and possibly developing bad technique). Since I moved it to the front it has helped a bunch. I might be wrong about the 8 deg, maybe it's less? It's identical to this one here. For a while now I have wanted to get another to try inward canting on both feet. I think it will help. Anyways I'm going to play around this weekend with some various angles and work on my form. I'll reply back Sunday night and let you all know how things went. Thanks again for your insight. JPW
  7. Equipment: Burton Speed ('03 I think-gold/blood splatter model) 158W Burton Race plates, one of the round 8 deg cant in the front (don't have anything else to experiment with, although I have tried flat w/o cant and hated it). SB 224's Shells are 25-27.5 I believe (so you know the size) I ride my softies at 30/25. I rip at these angles on my softies, and I can almost get my body parallel with the ground like euro style and transitions are no problem at all. I can even carve the downhill edge on my softies. I have no fear of any amount of speed, deepness of carves, etc. I did put my softies at 45/40 two weekends ago and was doing fine but I backed them off as the conditions were icy and there wasn't much grooming done the night before. It definately felt wierd and I was riding pretty good, but it was nowhere near as ackward as riding my alpine at 50 deg + angles. The worst part of those higher angles for me was that it seemed like I couldn't bend my knees at all. Perhaps some different cant/lift combos would help? I can ride all day at these higher angles, I just can't rip like I can on my softies at 30/25. Maybe my expectations are too high for a first season hardbooter! :p Again my main question is should I just force myself to go 50deg + on the alpine and finally get used to it, or is it ok to have lower binding angles if overhang isn't much of an issue. I have very minor overhang even with 25 deg angles. The board has to go almost perpendicular to the ground for the toe of the boot to drag....the heel is even better. I checked this by putting my boots in the bindings with my board on my vice and simulated the board going into carves and seeing where the toe would start to drag (in perfect conditions). I guess in deeper snow it would be worse(or in poor grooming conditions), but I probablly wouldn't be on my alpine board in those conditions anyways. I hope this makes sense to you all. I'm leaning towards going 45/40 this weekend and just working on technique. Hopefully I'll get comfortable with that for a couple days and then work my way up from there. Thanks again! :D JPW
  8. If you were a first year hardbooter and you only felt comfortable with binding angles less than 50 deg would you tough it out and force yourself to get used to the steeper angles or would you back them down to say 40-30 deg? My problem is with greater than 40 deg binding angles I mainly have trouble bending my knees and my heelsides go into skids instead of carving. On top of that it just feels plain wierd, I'm not comfortable, and lose confidence in the end. My main board has a 200mm waist so I can have pretty low angles with minimal overhang, but I guess I'm wondering if I'm screwing myself in the long run by not using higher angles and just getting used to them. Does the statement in this article regarding binding angles make sense (Step 5)? I don't see why I would want a MORE narrow board if my angles were less than 50 deg? Am I reading this backwards? Thanks in advance, JPW
  9. Folks, I have stock SB 224's and haven't played with the settings much, mostly due to lack of knowledge. I have them locked into the 3 spot currently because it was the "midpoint". What exactly are the benefits of lean adjustment, say position 1 vs 5? Should I be engaging more foward lean for a EC style? Is the setting all a matter of personal preference? Lastly, how exactly do you engage the walk mode, and what exactly does it do for you? Apprecite any info on this. I've searched the web and there's not much out there on these.... JPW
  10. Bump just incase anybody missed this. For those that sent me emails I'm looking to spend around $50-75 depending on the condition/# of times molded. Thanks!
  11. I don't know anything about ski's, but they should be pretty much the same. Make sure you get the widest wax scraper you can for snowboards. If I had to do it over I would just buy a wax scraper, nice diamond stones, gummi stone, and a edge tool. Then buy scotch brite pads from wal-mart. They do great for finishing touches on your wax jobs. Hope this helps.
  12. Looking for some thermoflex liners, or equivalent. Shells are MP 26.5 (SB 224's). My toe to heel measurement was 26cm. I'm hoping this will help with the pain I'm having on the outer portion of my foot-just before where my pinky toe begins (There's like a bone there that sticks out). Also might be interested in moldable footbeds. I've been told this may solve my problem as well. Thanks in advance!:)
  13. I got one of those, I think. What is 13, 3 SCR exactly? I was going to Ebay it soon and concentrate on my 158. This is my first year carving, so the 7.3 was a bit much for me. The board is great, but those steep stance angles were my main problem with a 180mm waist. Email me at johnpaulwynn@hotmail.com for pics if you want.
  14. Matty, Interested in that cant. Is it the round one? Can you send me a pic on this as well? Same email that I posted in your TD1 post. Thanks again.
  15. Matty, Can you email pics? I'm not sure what exactly the difference is with those cants. Also do you accept paypal? Email is johnpaulwynn@hotmail.com Thanks!
  16. I paid 25 for the vice and 34 for the tuning kit. :D I really only use the wax scraper although my bro-in-law has used the wax repair sticks and they work good. He just lit it on fire and dripped it on his base, then used the metal scraper to smooth it out. It worked great. I still haven't used them on my boards, so I'm glad he did it first to his board! :) I did not recieve any 3rd clamp or string with mine. I don't use the devices that hold the board in place when waxing; my bench is not long enough and the board is too thick, but I've yet to have the board slip as the rubber holds just fine. Those knobs would in fact just get in the way regardless. Neil: Have you used the edge tool? Does it seems hard to keep it level? This is my first season doing tuning and I'm pretty hesitant to use it... D-Sub: What are you using as a bench? I've been looking at some on the Sears website but they have so many it's hard to choose...

    WTB: GS set up

I have a Burton FP 173 and MP 28.0 Shadow boots. I can fit with Burton Race plates, one of two types, one is the rat trap heel mechanism and the other are standard toe clip type. Send me an email at johnpaulwynn@hotmail.com if your interested. Was going to Ebay this stuff soon...
  18. I have some MP 28.0 Burton Shadow's I was going to Ebay. Send offers to johnpaulwynn@hotmail.com

    Bindings?

I have an extra pair of Burton's....
  20. Thanks for all of your replies. I'll call around and see about bootfitters in my area...:)
  21. This guy has everything you need. I have tried his warm and cold waxes, both good. I have some powder but haven't tried it yet. Not really skilled enough yet to need it. Good luck!:D
  22. My foot is very wide near my toes. It normally makes me increase my shoe size by 1-2 sizes, depending on the shoe. It's killing my carving as I can only last ~ 2hours on my 26.5's due to pain. My 28.0's do not hurt my feet at all but I can feel my heel coming up as they are too big (long). I've heard people talk about "punching out boots". What exactly does this mean? Will it widen the boot towards the toes? If not, is there anything I can do to get it wider besides custom fit liners? Thanks!:D
  23. Any information on these...specs, etc? Can you use Intecs on them? Got any pics? Thanks!
  24. Heading to Santa Fe tommorow. Running gates there for the first time. Work thing....going to be interesting! I goto Angel Fire every Sunday. $99 Sunday pass for the whole season. Great deal. I was just picking a place in CO and Wolf Creek came to mind. I just want to meet up with some other carvers. Hardbooters seem to be pretty scarce down here in NM. Thanks for the replies though :) Maybe I'll drive further north? I'll let you know...
  25. Do either of the Burton bindings come with cants? Also how does the SI mechanism work in the carriers? Do you need a boot insert, or do you need a specific model of Burton boots? Also semi-interested in the UP 5.7...
