  1. I didn't vote obviously because I am a smoker. I definantely understand your issue with the smell. I've found that 90% of the smell is on your hands. If you simply wash your hands you'd be amazed at how much it helps. It doesn't make it completly go away, but it does help substantially.

Perhaps you could ask them to at least go wash their hands? If anything it would be a gesture from them that they are willing to work with you on the issue...

Also keep in mind smokers cannot smell it at all and are really clueless about how overwhelming the stench is. And believe me I will be the first to admit-it fuggin stinks.

  2. Ends in 1.5 hours. Pretty sure it's a carving board but the stuipid hat is in the way of the bottom. Throw out the soft boots and bindings or resell on Ebay...Hat? Not sure :p

    Ebay Generics Board/Boots/Bindings/HAT :P

Here's another alpine board/boot/binding deal on Ebay that nobody has bid on yet. Could be a cheap way to get everythign you need to get going on hardboots...

Oxygen APX + Boots + Bindings

P.S. Gotta love the overhang with the current binding angles set on these guys!

    Cheers

  3. Figured I would pass this information along. I'm not sure if folks out of state can buy this, but I don't see why you would not be able to. Blackout dates aren't too bad-mostly the holiday weekends and such.

I believe the American Lung Association does ski privilege programs in other states as well. Check with your local ALA office. I know Vermont does one as I saw it on the ALA website last season...

If you're interested, you can order over the phone (505-265-0732) or by mail (they take credit cards, cash or money orders) to 7000 Menaul Blvd NE, ABQ, NM 87110.

P.S. Anybody have experience with any of the CO resorts? I've only been to Durango out of the five on the card...

  4. Soft boots shops are sooo common you should be able to try on different sizes and find what size you need.

My problem is hardboot fitters in my local area. Zero, zilch, nada. Even all the resorts I go to have no idea what to do with me. Feel blessed you even have a good hardboot fitter! ;)

  5. Your hardboots shouldn't hurt. They should be more comfortable than softboots....

I don't think there is a wrong way to buckle your boots. I usually start at the top (power strap) and then just work my way down. I've noticed that I usually go back to buckles that I've already done and re-adjust them after I get the other buckles snapped in.

The already buckled buckles get loose once you tighten the unbuckled buckles so the order doesn't really matter in my opinion. Was that wordy or what? :)

Now there might be some rule of thumb that might make your boot buckles/shells last longer or something, but I haven't heard it yet. Maybe the oldbies can harp in here?

  6. I try to sway anybody I can to hardboots. This will be my second year in hardboots and my third season on a snowboard. I Ski'd twice in my lifetime before I tried snowboarding two years ago.

BOL was the FIRST forum I found (after I read the Carvers Almanac). What spawned interest for me in hardbooting was finding this wierd looking asym race board at the local ski swap and asking the salesman questions about it. I took it home and started searching the web for more information. Next thing you know I"m on Ebay using the Ebay Search link (from the carvers almanac) getting some used plates and hardboots....rest is history.

I've seen about 3-4 other hardbooters in New Mexico. Most are racers. Saw one guy at Angel Fire carve a 360 near the lift line on an almost flat surface. Stuff like that is what inspires me most.

I met Mark Jengerard from BOL. He lives a whopping 10 minutes from my house. Awesome guy-instructor at Santa Fe, has been hardbooting for 10+ years, understands all aspects of technique, etc etc. He rides a Madd 180 which maybe he'll let me ride this season :)

  7. Need a set for a new pair of Burton Ice boots I scored. Would rather buy another set than rip out my current boots...Hate to invest too much into these boots as I'm searching for a perfect fitting shell and haven't had much luck. Owell my problem not yours.

Request a fresh set or a very lightly used pair. Payment will be paypal. Need them shipped to 87120 please include this in your price.

No big rush still a month or so from making some trenches.

  8. I hammered my '05 1000RR upto 6k RPM everywhere I went. Just didn't go over the 6k mark. I put my rev light at like 5750 rpm and kept a good eye on it...

Once 600 miles were up with fresh oil it was on!

Now if only my silly bike didn't do 70mph in 1st gear and 100mph in 2nd at redline...Jeeze forget about hammering that thing anywhere in the city! I save those moments for the juicy roads oustide of town...

My car break in was entirely different. The dealer instructed me to drive it however I wanted with one rule of thumb: don't stay at the same RPM for extended periods of time. He said when driving on the interstate I could downshift to 5th or 4th periodically for a couple minutes to change my RPM. Outside of that he said do whatever including 8k RPM redlines in any gear. This was the instruction from the Acura dealer on my RSX Type-S.

Good luck with your new ride. I really dig those nakies!

P.S. Magnetic Drain plugs are very nice for break in periods as well as after break in.
