  1. If I'm reading the first post right, the guy is a relative noob.

Geeze Jack...I guess I can't really argue since this is only my 3rd up-coming season snowboarding and 2nd on plates. Definately NOT still learning to carve...Pretty much had that down my first day snowboarding.

Guess you'll have to evaulate my "Noobness" at SES this year! :)

Don't worry I'll bring my RT173 and Speed 158 just incase I don't like the Asym!

  2. Wow thanks for all the replies!

Sounds like I should give the F2 a shot on a sub-par day for grins. Or Asym day at SES sounds fun!

Doubt I'll be selling the F2 anytime soon...sowwy! Unless Nils wants to trade for a Swoard ;)

Bindings will probablly go on the classifieds for cheap. I was kinda hoping they were something a bit older/rare that Brian could use for his collection. No biggie somebody will put them to use as I will be using my Bombers and nothing else!

  3. Would like to get some history on these items. I picked up the F2 at last years ski swap as my first alpine board and have never rode it. Has some sentimental value as it sparked interest into hardbooting for me...Is this board even worth riding or will the asym totally throw my technique off? Was this board a high end board in it's production year?

Also picked up these Sims "Stepin" bindings off Ebay. They were advertised as ski bindings. :D Only one binding has a cant. Not sure if the other is suppost to have one or not. the bottom of the bindings don't have any padding to protect your topsheet. I'm wondering if there is some pads (like the ones that come with Burton race plates) that are missing? Just doesn't seem right as the teeth from the 4x4 discs would definately rub on your topsheet...

Anybody ever use these before? This stuff bring back memories for anybody? :)

    Appreciate your responses!

  4. SB 224's $60 shipped from Europe (off Ebay)

Burton Speed 158 Wide $150 shipped (off Ebay)

Burton Race Plates $40 shipped (off BOL)

My first setup was a whopping $250. And it worked great. Still does actually. Got my brother-in-law on it for our last day of the seaon and he had a blast.

This season I'm using TD1's ($125 from BOL) and I'm working on some custom-fit Burton Ice boots that I picked up in the offseason (brand new-$50 shipped off Ebay) that I'm adding in my form-fit footbeds ($40 at local ski resort) and molding some liners as well ($75 shipped off BOL).

So for this season (my 2nd) I'm looking at:

    RT173GS ($200 shipped off BOL)

    TD1's ($125 shipped off BOL)

    Burton Ice + footbeds + Thermoflex ($50 + $40 + $75)

That's $490 for custom fit boots, bomb proof bindings, and IMHO a very fun board. Leaves room for SES $$ and possibly a board purchase after I demo everything at SES.

Also I'd like to add that name brand soft boot equipment is not cheap either. I mean Burton boards are $500, bindings $150-250, boots $100-200. It really depends on if you want stuff that will do the job or stuff that is the best...

Edit: Obviously my opinion is that lack of hardbooters is not because it's expensive. I think it's from lack of exposure. Let's take the local ski swap that I went to last weekend for an example: Out of 500+ new/used snowboards I found two carving boards (both very old). Out of 500+ pairs of snowboard boots I found 1 pair of hardboots. Mostly all of the used boards had bindings and they were selling bindings seperately. Not a single pair of hard boot bindings and neither of the used boards had bindings. So not even a single complete hardboot setup out of all that ski/snowboard equipment...Sad

  5. From ABQ

Santa Fe is about 1-1:15 hours to the base area

Angel Fire is 3 hours to the base area

Sandia Peak is 10 minutes + a 10 minute tram ride to the tip-top of the mountain....or you can drive 30-45 mins to the base area

Season prob won't be very good till January this year. Maybe we'll get lucky again like last year though!

All three of these parks had over 100" base last season. Most closed with a 100" base unfortunately :( Was slush though

  6. Wierd. I think I ran 40/35 all last season in my softies. Honestly can't say I had any problems whatsoever. Don't think my setup is very stiff either but I don't have much to compare it to.

Think I'll try some duck this season and work on my fakie. That is if I ever get out of my hardboots....

  7. Anybody here use Yakima roof rack products? In particular the ones that use the Q tower system for cars w/o OEM rails. Supposedly these systems are not very intrusive to your vehicle and do a good job.

My RSX-S is just not cutting it for hauling snowboards inside. My 173RT is pretty much at my gear shifter which drives me crazy. Not to mention that I would like to eventually get 180+ boards which will be up on my dashboard. A roof rack system is about the only way I'm going to transport that big of a board on my RSX-S. I was interested in the trailer hitch type of board racks but I'd have to get some serious custom work done on my car to weld a hitch on it.

Obviously I'd like to do the least intrusive thing possible. Who has used these types of systems? Anything bad you can say about them? Did they ding up your paint, etc?

Why didn't I just buy that ugly Element?
