  1. looks like the folks at burton cut up all the left over **** from the last 20 years and decided to make nannas patchwork quilt jackets... the wife and i were laughing at the uniform the other night...
  2. most definitely... for most folks a basic hot wax / scrape and scotchbrite pad buff is sufficient..
  3. i can t remember his name jim... if i recall correctly you re right... he left around 95... lives in jackson now.. cool guy for sure... he mentioned he rode for SC skateboards back in the cup and cone bearing days.. i ll be in SC the week of the 3rd of march jim... wanna get a wave ??
  4. a hot box works wonders to open up the pores and allow better was penetration to the base... they are easy and cheap to make and there is some good google info regarding the construction and use... i like to use as little wax as possible... just enough to make sure the entire base is covered... i ve seen many guys in shops lay up an 1/8 thick pool... just achieves 2 things - more scrape time (work) and wasted wax ($$$).. great lookin shop patmoore...
  5. wow.. i m floored... looks like the ocean compared to what i saw at tahoe... great photos... i seriously can t fathom that that is a great lake... impessive thanks for the link !!
  6. if the base looks like glass you re well on the way... i use a combo of brushes... finishing with a toko roller... or a horse hair hand brush if the battery on the drill is dead... if you want to fly you need to spend the time working the base... i find that quality wax also helps alot - i like swix... i ve ridden unscraped wax before... there is a local guy, papa woody that makes a tahoe blend wax... he actually recommends non scrape for the general (non competition) rider... it works well... you just lay it on real real light and drag the iron tip to tail for a finish... i find the first few runs you can notice the drag somewhat but after that she goes real well... i should add this disclaimer... this is all for a freeride skidder :) alpine virgin (but i m coming over to the darkside) cheers
  7. yep, surf fitness is one of those thing you either have or don t... me at the moment the latter... i like beer... i m good for about 3 hours these days then i need a nanna nap :) the soft booter i saw had + F/ R binding angles... extreme compared to my 21 / 9... but nothing compared to you hard boot nutters !! he was maybe at 39 - 36 / 18 or so ??? not sure... the poles confused me also but i actually saw two soft boot boarders running them... maybe it has something to do with the flat rep of grand targhee... whatever the reason this old santa cruz local i saw had the board and turns dialled... look like he was born on the thing... fresh turns under branches... that s the reason i wake up in the mornings... :) cheers
  8. sweet... inland surfing is something i know nothing of but it it s something on plan on doing... i ve see a number of keen folks at northshore tahoe... told my wife that i have to give it a shot... hopefully the 4/3 oneill with gloves / hood will cut it... i m sure that your waves and swell in lake superior have traveled a longer distance than the wind whipped chop i saw at tahoe... i imagine the waves are cleaner... how big does lake superior get... knee to chest high max ?? i m going to check out your club link soon... haven t had a chance yet... great stuff.. go the surfers !!
  9. looks like an interesting doco lonbordin... thanks for the link sasquatch - do you surf up in washington state ?? must be some frigid water... i m lookin forward to getting back in the water at santa cruz at the end of the month... got a new board waiting there for me... amped !!
  10. i seem to have a good eye when watching / picking snowboarders... 3 weeks ago at grand targhee i watched an old guy finish his run and i immediately spotted him as a surfer... he had a nice flowing style... he rode in soft boots with ski poles, he was on the rail... no skidding like 98 % of the kids... chatted with him after commenting on his nice style... turns out he was a old surfer / skater from santa cruz who now lives in jackson... i think surfers seems to have a different eye for the mountain... more fall line ??? i dunno... how many of you come from a surfing background ?? do you still get wet ?? cheers
  11. i was at targhee in the middle of jan 2014... saw that guy lay down some SICK rail turns... so nice to watch... kicking myself i didn t go and have a chat with him... hell i love cheese and beer as well !!
  12. wow... what a great welcome... you fellas sure are a good bunch... much appreciated... mr ong i think i m going to take you up on your kind offer... lunch and post beers on me...
  13. cheers icebiker... more good words... much appreciated... so whats the verdict is a 175 ish board too long for a hardboot newb ?? whats the deal with plates ?? 35 + deg rear angles... wow.. what range are we talking for the front foot ??
