  1. Yes, the tail is sliding out, it's at the beginning of the carve. QUOTE]

You have too much weight on the front foot if the tail is skidding out. Don't try to load the nose at the beginning of the turn, just roll the board on edge and it will hook up. Once in the carve remember to push your feet through the turn to keep the tail engaged.

See some of WilliamBlake's post about technique. He gives very good descriptions of darn near everything that needs to be done on healside and toeside carves.

  2. DB,

In CO you generally don't need a bunch of high flouro expensive waxes since we have drier snow. Swix and Dominator low flouro stuff works well in our climate and I have been successfully using Holmenkol for the past few seasons. Mostly low flouro till spring conditions arrive then switch to high flouro. ABS in Boulder has Dominator.

  3. Strictly based on the numbers, but wouldn't a Donek 180 Tucker Freeride be a better choice over a Tanker?

Hopefull DT will chime in here. He had a 180 Tucker and 182 Tanker. After riding both he got rid of both and picked up the 02-03 192 seen in the Tanker porn shot above. The 182 in the shot is the one he got rid of to another friend. He can elaborate on what he didn't like with the Tucker when he sees this.

  4. llr - one of the best things you can do to speed up your progression is ride with other people. Please do not be afraid to approach any of us! We don't bite, well except for big mario.;)

    Dustin

DT is correct on that one. We are very open to helping others and DT is the man!

The sooner that we cross paths the quicker you can be enjoying you new carving skills.

  5. Matt with the "tiny 182" is new too the world of big boards and is "loving it". I rode the 192 last season in all but the tightest of trees and would still be on it if it weren't stolen. I have only had the 200 out once but can tell you that it is and incredible board that I had a blast on. It was in some pretty tight situations and came through with flying colors. If I had a lot more money I would add a couple smaller tankers to the quiver. I love these boards that much!

and yes, I am the smallest of the riders with the biggest board.

  6. Loveland is my home hill.... sort of. I am looking forward to seeing all the people that make up this group of hard core hard booters. I am also in need of help. I thought coming from a back ground of ski racing, I would be able to tear up a carve set up. I was a development team downhiller, and I am skidding an 185 oxygen gs. It turns too hard in the nose and the bindings are too far forward. I will detune the nose, but the side cut is just too steep

    WWM,

I am an Evergreen local also. Will be great to have you join us for the day and more. See you in a week.

  7. Yup, exactimundo. It's our 2.5 month old baby that might keep us from coming -- so we'll see how it goes, but I really want to come!

    tom.

    CONGRATULATIONS!

I know the drill but mine is 4 1/2 now. He may be up for the event in which case he will want to help watch the baby. We took turns with him so that the other parent could ride. The tent will be set up close to the lodge from what I hear which makes going in to warm up the little one easier.

    Hope to see you there,

  8. glad to see you out there Mike, it was fun. Let us knoe the next time your in the area. You should try for SES if you can swing it, you would have a great time and learn lots more than us old schooler's can teach you.

    Later on

    MJDC25

Try to come to our mini carving session/demo/bbq at loveland on the 19th.

    http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?t=18483&page=1&pp=30

You will join the WP crew, Lovey crew and some others who can all help you to improve your riding. And it is way cheaper than SES, but I want to go to that also. Saving pennies for Aspen to hopefully go.

  9. You mean the broken one?

Yep, I didn't see this stuff till this evening. Bummer.

BB, I think mister metalurgy DT is the man for any questions on this on. I don't know enough about metal or metal boards to be of any use since they weren't around when I raced. The SG is my initiation into the world of riding metal and it is a good one.

The only good thing about that board is that it didn't cost you too much.

  10. I have been thinking about coming for awhile now, with school work holding me back since I will be out of town the following weekend, but I think I just might have to suck it up and come on out. I have never ridden with other alpiners (or with a good board) so I will be looking forward to this. Hopefully I make it out there.

    Pat

You won't be disappointed. Mario is a heckuva cook, boards that rip will be present and the riders you will meet, ride with, get tips from and become friends with will make you want to come out every weekend.

Get your school work done during the week and sunday so that you can attend.

  11. TVR and BB,

I will have your risers available to install on the 19th so you may want to get some longer screws. Sorry it took so long but the shop has been slammed and other issues with the router operator.

    BB,

Please bring the Kessler on the 19th, I would love to try it out if you don't mind.

    Happy New Year,

  12. Gall dang it! I am bummed that I missed out on the ride today but will probably be out tomorrow.

BM, I hear that you were killin' it again on the FCII, way to go bro.

DT, git yer head out of you arse and set up your boards the way that works for you. You bend your knees already so don't go screwin' things up.

I hope there wasn't a pit crew for Tony! Bad, bad images there.
