  1. Hey John Yes! Great day at Solitude. I learned a lot. Park City and Canyons were not really my speed. Too glitzy and crowded on days we were there. If we get out west again next year I'll contact you prior and maybe we can figure out an overlap when we could meet up at some hill. Think we flew over Mammoth Mountain on our connector home (via LAX) to Boston. We're talking about going to waterski/wakeboard camp in Florida February next year, somewhere on coast (Santa Rosa??) where we can get slalom/trick lessons in AM and surf in the afternoon. Hey, they're still board sports. Going boarding with a guy at Loon Mountain in NH on Wednesday. He carves and MAKES boards and has moved on to Skwals (Slalom waterskiing on snow, basically...). Ron: thanks for info about Solitude and the pics. Love that place... Brad
  2. We did Park last Mon (holiday) Canyons on Tue, Solitude on Weds and Park again on Thurs. Park City schools were on vacay last week so that may have contributed to crowds
  3. Whoa--this thread thing is confusing. Not as hard as carving, I guess but still...re: your question about Park and Canyons. I guess it all comes down to what you like. Those two spots were "interesting" to see but I wouldn't revisit. Crowded I thought. Got run over by someone. Even though I thought I cleared the turn the guy must have been flying or in blind spot. Frustrating to try to get some open slope to traverse at both. Canyons one skies sometimes down trails running through condo groupings: felt like skiing at a very upscale miniature golf course. Zip lines and roller coasters and mini ice rinks with mini Zambonis and lots of outdoor hot tubs packed with kids, lifts from parking lot to reach base gondola that takes ya to beginning of Canyon slopes. Wanna get off mountain whe youve had enough? Better pla way ahead! Conspicuous consumption everywhere. Lotsa kids, people blocking lift lines and pointing with ski poles. God, I sound crotchety. But Solitude is just that. Zen in snow. Nice lodge, not fancy. Wide open slopes and vistas and quiet backcountry trails. Some two-person chairs. A carvers paradise essentially. 66 bucks. Hope this helps! Brad
  4. Hey there! I posted more details on thread Northeast Sessions 2013! (Easier typing than on phone) Brad
  5. I'm way late to this thread (2013 Feb) but just back from Utah. Brought hard and soft boot carve setup out there. Again: ya have to pick your mountain. Some places great for carving(Solitude) others were not my scene:Park City and Canyons. I'm up for going anywhere in eastern US next year (2014). I'm still skidding around and need easy trails and some coaching but am completely addicted to the feel of "life on the edge". I'll follow this thread or tell me if there's a new one started for next year (2014) season. I'm in! Brad
  6. No, I don't think so. He was at Solitude for one day as was I and we just happened to meet up because we were the only two carvers on the hill. Hey Digger Jr: is there a carving community at Solitude? I'm from Boston area and would like to get out to Utah every year or so but would want to be able to hook up with people who carve when I'm out there. Or, is there anywhere in the country you go to hook up with carvers? Brad
  7. Hey John from LA: Is Solitude Utah not THE best mountain for carving?? Hey respond to this and maybe we can coordinate some days out there next year. Thanks for the lessons on Tuesday Feb 19 2013! Brad from Boston
  8. George: Thank you for the very specific feedback! Have settled on a volkl renntiger 168 from Robert Alexander in New Hampshire. Maybe we can do business on my NEXT board! Brad
  9. Hey I'm interested in the 168! Wanna email me at chutefam@gmail.com and we can talk? Thanks Brad
  10. Hey Blue! Thanks for info! Feedback much appreciated. Feet are size 10. How narrow is "narrowish?" Snow out here in Northeast has been iffy. Not good for the Cult so far, although I really like the board, the little I've been able to ride it. That nose just skims right along nicely over crap slush, crud. Still working out hard boot fit--takes a lot of tinkering! Went to Snopro on front foot and step in/Intec on back because getting into the rear bail drove me INSANE. Leaves me one more binding "pair" for another board. Carving is still a big mystery, but I'm working on it amidst much hill traffic and bumps/ice with my Oxygen 158 with soft boot setup with 3/4" risers. Occasionally I do something right and the board makes the turn on edge! Going out to Utah soon so want to bring along a freecarve for the wide open groomers out there. That's why I'm looking at the Silber.
  11. Hey there: Whats the waist on the Oxygen Proton? Still available?? Thanks Brad
  12. Hey there: Whats the waist on the 168? Your opinion: Is it stiff? Touchy? Forgiving? Does it perform okay as a freecarve board or is it exclusively race?? Thanks Brad
  13. hey there I've read that the F2 Silberpfiel has a nose that "tends to hook and requires more skill to ride." True? What's your experience with this board? I've just switched to hard boots and am figuring out the mystery of carving. Have Boris's old SG Cult as an AM board but would like to try a pure carver. Is this board okay for a relative beginner? Whadya think? Thanks Brad
  14. Hey there Is Cult 169 still available? Am 160 lbs recreational east coast boarder looking for board to follow soft-booters around all around the hill. Is Cult a good match?? Thanks Brad
