  1. Long story but I have been at Big Mtn for about ten days and was getting ready to leave and locked my keys in the rental car (running) today. Missed my flight, flew into S.L. in a plane not much bigger than my truck. I hate flying but anything with propellers I need to run for the depends. Now on standby again for tomorrow. If I can't get on a flight, I may go ride. On a positive note I picked up the 162 Identity from Dr. D and it rides like a dream. Holds very tight SL turns but will also hold GS turns at speed. Rode it very hard and was only able to make it wash out once. Amazing! Snow was great, hiked some backcountry that made me crap my pants, and had an awesome time. Might be at Buck this weekend if I don't find a Morman girl to marry first.

  2. In a nutshell, it was crowded. Human slalom day. Far lift by the bar I came screaming down to get over that flat spot and there is a fine young thing on a board riding straight, next thing I know she cuts across the run in my path. I have never put the brakes on so hard. Potential for alot of blood was there. Snow conditions were great but got a little bumpy by the end of the day. Rode up with Joe once and saw an unidentified hardbooter there as well. Off to Montana tomorrow morning!!!!!!!!!!! :biggthump

  3. anyone have a small snowboard, around 140-ish? and womens size 9 boots?

friend's daughter is looking to buy a snowboard.

    just want to deal locally.

    Bobble,

My friend has a Burton Dominant (looks like the 140ish range) in his garage that is not being used. I will give him a call and see if he wants to part ways with it. The House might be worth checking into also.

  4. We have been discussng this on another forum I subscribe to. I am in the contract utility locating industry. You want to dig and I come paint and flag your yard to let you know where the underground utilities are. I manage all of southern MN for my company and we are hiring for ten positions this spring. In less than one week I have received over 300 resumes. Alot of them are from people who have a bachelors degree or better. Here is my dilemma.....I would love to hire someone who is intelligent and would pick up the job quick, but on the other hand I need to hire people that I can retain and not have to replace each spring when they find a job in their respective field of choice. I hate to pass on someone with an advanced degree but in this field they are overqualified for the position. In the end, I am looking out for my bottom line to retain my job. What is ironic is that I am too not in the profession that I studied in school. I have a BS in Molecular Biology and was accepted to Med School some time ago but chose to concentrate on my kids instead of being on call every 3rd day for a number of years. So do I take a risk and hire someone like myself with a degree in hopes that they will stay in this profession for a number of years, or do I hire someone I can groom into this position so they can make it a career? I am just thankful that I have a job that keeps food on the table and allows my kids and I enjoy the lives that we have.

  5. I have instructed for years and have never refused a tip. I am not in it for the money but the tips were nice for a pitcher or two of a fine ale at the end of the day. The way I think about it is if you are out to dinner have you ever known a waiter/waitress to refuse your tip? I will always remember my worst tip........guy paid for a three hour lesson and at the beginning showed me a folded $100 saying it was mine if he could ride at the end of three hours. He could ride and my "tip" was 1/2 of a $100. Didn't think to unfold it until the end of the day. I just wondered what happened to the other half.:AR15firin:AR15firin:AR15firin

  6. Cold tonight! Took my kids out tonight so I was on the softies again. My daughter (6) is finally starting to get the hang of toe - heel linked turns and we can get down the hill a heck of alot quicker. I've noticed the crappy grooming lately (speed bumps all the way across the hill) but tonight with the lights they lit up like Monica Lewinskys dress with a little luminol and a black light. Looked like waves all the way across the hill. Anyway, I will be back out tomorrow in hardboots trying to cut through the speed bumps.

  7. Heal fast, but don't take it too fast. I shredded my ankle 3 years ago in hardboots. Folded the nose on a soft day (Jan 1st and it was 45 degrees), the board stayed but I kept going. Wore a plastic knee high "boot" for four months and continued with physical therapy until the next season. I did figure out that the boot fit into flow bindings so I could ride a little late in the season on some greens. Take care. :biggthump

  8. I cannot piece together which types of boots go with which bindings

this is my first setup, and I am basically looking for the cheapest stuff possible, well atleast for the bindings

I know my boot size is a 29.5 cm

I see a lot of different stuff for sale, and I'm sitting here scratching my head about what types of bindings I need. I saw nothing in the FAQ's to assist me.

Someone please take me to boot/binding school!

As far as bindings go, they are like the five point restraint system that I use in my stock car. I would never go for the cheapest belts.......they with the roll cage are what keeps me alive in a crash. Nothing sucks worse than a binding failure at speed. From firsthand experience it is not fun to break a bail while riding. I ride Bombers and Burton Race Plates. I have broken other bindings but not these. Catek is another option.

  9. yeah, she was there sunday too. she prolly got the memo.

hope i can still board (or ski) when i reach her age. my parent are in their 60's and they are not physically capable of skiing anymore.

Watched her go down Bakke and Dans a couple of times. Smooth, no nonsense style. Just needs to see a dentist and get her grill fixed. Even though she is a bit of a crank you do have to admire her. I too hope that I am on the hill at her age and past.

    Temp Don't know

    Visibility Flat,Sunny,Flat,Sunny etc

    Conditions Firm Cord

    Hardbooters ME

Hill was empty today, one school group there but plenty of room to play. I got there about 12:30 and there was still untouched cord all over the place. Nice being able to ride without looking over my shoulder. The run to the left of Dans (where the moguls are) was awesome! They groomed the moguls out and you can run the enitre width all the way down. Stayed until about six. Lots 'o ski racers by then so I decided to call it a day. I don't know if anyone else has noticed her but I swear that the old lady in the purple jacket and no teeth from buck is skiing there. I have seen her three times so far. Will be back out Th-F afternoon.

    Morning at Welch

got to welch early at 8:30 am. it was very cold. on the way in, the thermometer was reading -6F. i think it warmed up to about 10F. went inside a couple times to warm up.

early in the morning the snow was ... how you say in english ... KICK ASS! :biggthump.

around 2pm the snow got a little challenging. the love was gone for the dive. didn't get around to riding bakke till late in the day but it held up.

there was a snowboard competition to see who looked the most like shawn white. wild finally was not carver friendly -- too much going with people standing on the hill for the snowboard comp.

as a joke, went over to back bowl. hardly anyone there.

    Binding Setup

i played around with my bindings last night. i reduced my heel lift down to about 4 degrees. it seems counter-intuitive but it helped to reduce the amount of scalloping.

had a problem with bale tension on my beloved catek bindings. at the bottom of dan's dive i freed my rear boot for the chair. i took a step with my rear boot to push forward and then my forward boot came out of the front binding! i was WTF!!! :angryfire i tried to make the binding tighter but i couldn't. i'm not sure what's going on. i was disgusted and ended up changing boards.

Had an awesome day. I pretty much kept to myself for the day. Kind of nice to bury myself in my own world for awhile. I am glad that things are finally coming together with this board. I have been in hardboots more in the last two weeks than I have in the last two years and if feels good. I should be at welch a couple days midweek and back out on the weekend with my kids but will be in soft boots with them.

  12. it won't be long before the boys will have to pass the Big Willy test

No disrespect meant towards you or your daughter (mine is 6 going on 16), but my sick and twisted mind got the best of me today and that sentence just didn't sound right. I'll quit now before I insert the foot even further. :)

  13. DATE 1/20/09

TEMP Warm enough to wear just a shell

    VISIBILITY Great, sunny

CONDITIONS Hard, with speed bumps(see below)

    MY ISSUES

I know that it may come as a shock to many of you but I was actually in hardboots today. I am still having a ton of problems riding this year. Looking at my tracks from the lift toe is good but heel you can see that I skid a bit at the beginning of the turn and then lock into the turn. When I am riding, it feels like my body is way out of wack on heelside and I am un-weighting my front foot. I took one run on the 183 and put it back in the truck. SCARY FAST. Never felt like this before, maybe it is because I really haven't been in hardboots for two years or maybe age is catching up with me........who know's but it is getting frustrating. Guess I need to get on the board more.

    GROOMING

Really sucked. I thing that they had someone new running it because every run as you traversed across, it was like driving a car down a dirt road at 80 mph. No overlap on the tiller made for some great fun. The entire area was like this.

    AFTON

See you all there tomorrow, hopefully I can ride better. :biggthump

  14. We will be arriving in Missoula on Feb 6th to visit some friends and on to Big Mtn the 9th thru the 17th with maybe a trip to Fernie somewhere in between. If anyone is riding during those days, send me an email through bomber and maybe we could meet. Can't wait to get out of the midwest....

  15. Was out this morning with my son and the D-Team so I was rockin' the softies today. Snow was incredible but the wind really sucked. Almost blew us up Milkrun as we were coming down. Visibility was horrible. Worst flat light contitions I have ever encountered. Two HB out didn't know either of them both on teachers pet. The one guy was on an Asym Air with angles at about 30/15. Looked uncomfortable.

Bobble - I think that I may have a pair of Reactor shells 4 buckle around somewhere. 27-27.5 range. Let me know if you want me to start digging.

If conditions are ok and we dont get freezing rain tonight I should be up in the morning.
