Hi,
I, too, have been wondering about the local DC-area resorts. I just took a quick look on the sites today and it looks like (not surprisingly) Ski Roundtop (SRT) has the best conditions?
Anyway, are you guys on the Mid-Atlantic Carving (MAC) email alias? If not, you may want to get added...I'm going to take a guess that most people on that list wouldn't mind reading your snow reports. And the distro hasn't been very active the past few years.
I rode plates for 1/2 run last year so I'm quite rusty...but may be up for meeting at 'Tail...if the snow isn't soft (loose granular)

sorry, was away from the site for a few days.
I ended up actually replacing the 32 boot liners with my hardboot liners, hahah....they're pretty low end liners, but it worked, though conditions completely sucked, so i didn't have many runs at all.
before i ended up going with that, however, i experimented a little with the those blue foam pads (like Shintronics, but not as cumbersome) that I always use when riding plates, simply b/c, as i mentioned earlier, i have skinny legs, and these pads go right on your shin and make for a snugger fit. they fit the coutour of your leg; if you have shin bang, they'd probably help.
anyway, i tried putting these on the BACKS of my legs (where my calves were bothering me) to cushion the area b/w my calves and the back of the boot. it sounds similar to what RobStevens recommended: "I have solved this problem in the past by putting a slice of high-density foam (not too thick) inside the shell, on top of the liner."
JG, you're recommendation was interesting for sure. I actually don't own any flip flops, but I'll let you know if I decide to do this.
it proabably really is just time to get something new.
OHHH, by the way, 32 DID email me back, in a timely manner. I explained to them exactly what was happening, and even sent him a picture of the damage. His response was basically: "our new boots are much better; buy them." I even offered to purchase 2 new liners, but he said that that wasn't possible.

to answer your questions.
no, my calves are very small (sucks, but oh well).
the bindings are very old Rossi's HCs (either 2000 or 4000). I have new bindings, but not using them (for a few reasons). i think i have the foward lean as far back as possible (so there is no fwd lean). i have the Paulmer riser plates (probably considered "old school" now.

I have had my softboots (ThirtyTwo Lashed) for several seasons now. They are a snugger "performance" fit.
This past weekend (first time out this season), I experienced a problem that has happened a number of times before. Previously, I just sucked it up and dealt with it. I can no longer do that, however.
The top of the inner part of the boot (the modable part) is literally digging into the middle of my calves. It is worse on my R leg (I am goofy), but their are very visible red rings around my calves. This has occurred a number of times before, and the rings usually take several weeks (sometimes months) to completely dissapear. I am at a point now where after 2 hours, it is simply to painful to ride.
Last year, in Vail, I had to rent boots, b/c it was ruining my trip.
Historically, I've tied boots quite tight, though not so much anymore. I was able to stuff the fleece pants layer in there (b/w my sock and the inner boot), but that isn't a real solution.
Has anyone else had this problem with pain and/or red rings around your calves?
I've emailed 32, just to see what their repsonse is.
The only thing that I can really think of is that after a while, the tops of the inner boots simply start pointing slightly downward, resulting in them "digging" into your calves (which starts to hurt after a while).
Also, can you please give me recommedations for new softboots! specific brands and/or models. I really want to ride softies this weekend, so i need to get something soon. I ride a little bit of everything, primarily just freeriding. I don't go nearly as much as I used to, however.

went there years ago.....it's known for a few things.
Washingtonians usually refer to it as "massive nothing" or "mass of nothing" b/c it's small....so, don't count on any runs longer than a minute or so.
supposedly they have a real good park / pipe...not sure if it's still teh case, but a bunch of d-bags would go there....these are guys who will openly give you **** about carving, not that they're skilled enough to do it themselves.

This is a fun board that gives a good feeling, similar to riding in powder. Here is an excerpt from a review that I wrote a while back:
The T board is a very fun toy and carves effortlessly. Ride is VERY smooth, VERY easy to bleed off speed, much easier to carve than my longboard (although tight trucks may have something to do with that). Even with looser trucks, I simply don't see how a regular longboard can have the turning radius of the T- Board.
Can actually be more challenging when not on a hill - this is made for hills, I can't wait to get this thing on something steeper. this ride is so smooth there is the possibility of forgetting you're on a board with wheels. you can grab the edge and ride with style. It was simply insane how easy it was to bleed off speed on this thing.
The T Board is a blast to ride! If you want a new type of ride, definitley get one! beatiful graphics on the base, too.

i'll be in for a wedding that is replacing a rehearsal dinner with snowboarding and a 24 person slopeside condo - how cool!
was at snowbasin years ago...and only remember the lodge as being the nicest i've ever been in.
recs for trails? i'll have my soft setup with me and usually stay on blues....i'm cool with bowls and some bumpy stuff.
i'd prefer powder mtn (love that resort) but it's not "nice enough" apparently for some of the crew. i think it's greatness.

i did one run at whitetail on hardboots and ditched them after. way too bumpy and loose granular. maybe that's just my personal preference.

i'm head on vacation sunday and there's no way i could get up there now that the monster storm has started. conditions should be epic. have fun.

I think we've been into it a few times, a while back already. I'm not much of a regular around here anymore, but I applaud your post and it's honesty...and your effort to reach out, especially to many people who (I"m assuming) you may never meet.
Not to sound like Rocky, LOL, but it's true, people can change, and people can do a lot to change their circumstances. It's not easy, it requires dedicated effort, opening your mind, and sometimes lifestyle changes, but it is possible (though many cannot do it, or even realize they can). Do what you have to do to "get right," both physically and emotionally.
Life is very short, you don't know what will happen tomorrow.

our group leader got a final quote and we're waiting from confirmation from everyone they can do the trip.
as of now, there are 10 of us getting a huge Vail house (supposedly). assuming my airfare from DC is 390 (sounds a bit high to me, but i guess everyone is going there at this time), the trip will be about 1200 for me.
This includes:
-3 days lift ticket (fri, sat, sun)
-shuttle to and from vail airport
just seems a bit much for only 3 days of riding....am I totally out of touch or could i do this same trip to another CO resort for a lot less?
if anyone has any ideas how to get a group discount lift ticket (supposedly they won't do that for us), please let me know.
ps do i hvae to pay to bring my equpiment with me now?

this is good info...apparently at least 1/2 my group is skiiers....wasting precious energy skating, especially when i'm with skiiers, is obviously not what i want. how many cat tracks are there? are they that long?

can you guys please give me the scoop on these resorts?
best riding? best conditions? least crowded? best terrain? best village? most expensive? etc.

i'd skip 5 guys, it's a chain, they're everywhere....
gourmet burger joints are popping up all over this area....you have "ray's hell burger" in Arlington (VA) - Obama ate there during the summer, it was pretty cool, the meat is not ground beef (supposedly) and some famous chef named spike has (supposedly) good burgers at his joint. also "chef geoff's" which is #1 happy hour in DC, i think they serve sliders. Old Ebbit Grill is a DC institution, near the White House ,famous oysters i believe and place is huge

I cannot add you b/c I do not own the list. Mark Brown (he's on BOL) owns the list....no one seems to use it much anymore at all. I noticed that last year, too. The year before that, it was used pretty often (from what I remember).
I got a last minute invite to Wintergreen Resort (near Charlottesville) and ended up getting in my first day (finally). Not a bad mountain, and definitely carve worthy (IMO) if the trails don't get too bumped up.
BTW, where in VA are you? I'm in Arlington (right off of 66).
