    I'm going to be on the Yes Optimistic, 154 long, 26.2 waist (my feet are size 9), with a 6.5m sidecut. I'll start with my Burton Diodes that worked so well when I raced SBX, but may switch to the stiffer Salomons above, and throw on a pair of Gecko Stealth risers...should be fun!

    one night when i was doing laps under the lights off of Payday lift, i ended up around a bunch of kid racers and their Coach.......  all of whom were asking me questions about the boots and the boards.  we all rode around together for awhile but it did not result in an invite to ride Picabo's or CB.  

    you'll love that place.

    You can take a public lift to get to it...you just have to suffer temporary blindness when you get to the 'Do not enter' sign...

    Ya, I have a pair of Insanos too.  It's a good stiff boot, but more tailored to all around aggressive riding in the back/slack country, in my opinion.  It's a very lightweight, which is great for jumps and walking/ skinning, but the stiffness doesn't last for long on account of the lighter construction.  The Burton Drivers are heavier with more beefy construction, and as such I feel they're a better carving boot for groomers.  Salomon Malamute is the stiffest boot I've tried, better for narrower feet than mine though.

    Is that this year’s Insanos? Apparently with the new Intuition liner, you get extra stiffeners to keep them rigid. 

    My feet don’t fit the Burton last, so I might switch to Malamutes, once my Lunarendors die. 

    I spend a lot of time teaching and have to ride park, so o can’t go totally stiff. 

    So would you recommend the Salomon over the Rides?

    Hi Jack, I’m PC based! The CB’s run is unfortunately only open to ski teams who are race training on it. However there is a Town Race 4 Times a winter, usually with the final meet in March. It’s held on the bottom pitch of CBs, which as close as you can get these days. I’ll let you know the dates when I find out, if you’re interested. 

    It’s individual timing, but you get to go next to someone on an identical course...so can start whenever you want. Sadly they’re ski gates.

    Let me know when you’re heading to Utah, I’ve only ridden with BOL folks once, many moons ago. 

  6. JUSt to toss in another name... Salomon Quantum. These have replaced my Burton Diodes on my Oxess SBX, just more solid and durable. They’re also some cheaper ones floating around, as they’re a few years older. 

    As fir boots, I’m looking at the new Ride Insano...VERY stiff, hard plastic tongue, worth a look!

  7. With a wrist surgery on the cards pretty soon, and the news from my orthopedic surgeon that a hip replacement is a ‘when’ not an ‘if’, I plan to ride every chance I get. Decided not to race this winter, maybe with the exception of NASTAR, but plan on spending all my time on my edge, be it on my Kessler race boards or my new soft boot carver. 

    I got a ‘flow deal’ from GoPro, so I plan on making a short video, to say thank you to them. 

    Im excited for the season, and as long as the cortisone injections continue to work, I plan on leaving as many deep trenches in the snow of Utah, as possible!

  8. This worked for me, with a Carbonium topsheet Never Summer and a season of people running over it...

    1) Make sure that both the board and sticker are at room temperature. 

    2) Press down with a soft cloth to get the bubbles out 

    3) The most important part...use a hair dryer to heat the sticker, which melts the glue on it, creating a strong bond. 

    This method worked on my Oxess topsheet too!

    Not much different...The rear toes/heels  weren't touching when i took the photos above. And as I said, I may use my Geckos too  

    In the pics below, I had no trouble carving on the Burton Con Artist last winter, and that's a lot narrower. (When I'm in uniform coming into the base area, I tend not to get too crazy)

  10. Touch base nearer the time... I teach at Park City/Canyons and race and freecarve in hards, but ride softs 70% of the time, and I'd be happy to show you guys around if I'm in town  

    I'm also a flight attendant and don't get my schedule until the 16th of the month before, so don't know if I'll be there. If not, i know people who'd happily ride with you.

    I checked and it looks good (set at +21, -9, in case I have to teach a goofy rider, and need to ride switch).

    I would probably go steeper and double positive if it's just when I'm free riding, plus I've still got Gecko Stealth pads or Freeride ones to go on it! ??

  12. YES Optimistic... soft boot carver, with carbon-high back Burton bindings  

    CANNOT WAIT! When I'm not on my Kessler race boards, I'll be carving this little beauty everywhere. 

    I didn't like the original graphics, so bought some protective adhesive covering, with a carbon pattern! 

    With a 'flow' from Go Pro, I plan on making some Japanese-style soft boot carving videos with my new equipment... I'll keep you posted!

  13. Nooooo! This makes me so very sad. Such a lovely guy, I have such fun, fond memories of our Chiemsee Team  photo shoot in Switzerland. He made me ride snow bikes for the first time, and pushed me to go flat out, dragging me round the mountain at terrifying speeds...only afterwards did he mention he'd been a motorbike world champion! He had a wicked sense of humor. 
    An alpine snowboarding pioneer, furthering race board design along with teammate Peter Bauer, they changed the face of the sport forever...and for the better. 
    RIP Jean...one of my snowboarding heroes now, and forever ?

  15. If you look at the blurb on the Zardoz bottle, it talks about being hardwearing, hydrophobic, hydrophilic etc. It's great stuff, but lots of money for a small amount.
    So, a few seasons ago I tried something else. I happened to be in the car care aisle at Walmart looking for car polish... I picked up a huge black spray bottle of Meguiar's car polish and read the side... it talked about being hardwearing able to stand up to multiple car washes, hydrophobic, hydrophilic etc.
    So I gave it a try, telling all my locker row at ski school about it. "I bet it won't last" said one doubter...Late that afternoon, he saw me riding up behind him on a long flat section, and shouted "How's it going?"
    There was no need to reply as I sped past him...
