  1. Well the Garmont Shaman AT boots arrived yesterday, TD3 Standard bindings and Oxygen XE-60 board arrived today, with a pair of Garmont Mega-Ride boots are now arriving tomorrow. These TD3 things are just works of beauty and they weren't even out of the packaging yet. Nice. Anyway, once seeing the Garmont Shaman boots in the flesh yesterday I was worried about the interface between the front toe and the toe clip on the binding. Also, they were a bit snug for their size so I ended up exchanging them for the Garmont Mega-Ride boots one size larger. I saw pics on here of the Mega-Ride boot in TD2 bindings which eased my mind about the front toe fit to the toe clip with the Mega-Ride. I got home today to see the board and bindings on the porch and got to setting them up. I'd been reading and reviewing and researching tips and setup knowledge over the past week but it was still a little daunting at first trying to get the right binding angle then cant disc angle, etc. I loved every minute of it. I got everything setup, stepped in, and UGH ... I had accidentally ordered the wrong cant disc (I somehow ordered the 0-degree disc for front instead of the 3-degree disc). Shucks. I quickly ordered a 3-degree disc from Bomber and will exchange this one unless someone is looking for one at the moment. So now I'm 90% ready for the first real test fit outside which will start the cycle all over again with angles and tilt and cant once it is in the real world environment. I can't wait for the weekend.
  2. I made a similar rationalization. After just once on the slopes for the first time using rented equipment I did some number crunching and it was far better to buy my own stuff and not have to fight rental lines, get there 4 hrs before the place opens, etc. So the next day or two I spent about $1,000 on equipment to get me up to speed: used board, new boots, and new bindings. I knew the boots and bindings could be sold if I ended up not pursuing the sport since they are new so that helped. Also, for my previous car, a single set of summer tires were close to $800-$1,000 and only lasted one year. Ugh. This stuff will (hopefully) last me 5-10 years. At least, that was the reason I gave my wife and it seemed to work.
  3. I am trying to picture short track skates in a binding on a snowboard. Can't seem to figure out how you would accomplish it. I am a Computer Tech so could maybe combine my job and hobby like these guys did by making two Mac laptops into a snowboard, .

    Question

Joke from the Clinton era went something like this: Secret Service: President Clinton - we found your name written in urine in the snow out on the front lawn and evaluated the DNA and confirmed it was yours. President Clinton: That is correct. I was out there last night and it was too far to go inside to the bathroom. What's the problem? Secret Service: The problem is, the handwriting is by Monica Lewinsky.
  5. Drool. I remember the joy and fun I had with my '95 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 and can definitely relate to your Galant thrills. I don't envy your decision.
  6. Yep, the one and only. Super guy that words don't even come close to describing. Glad you know him and his family. I kept in touch with him for a spell after he was traded from the Penguins to Thrashers then I didn't want to keep bothering him since he wasn't around here very much. Here is a pic of my wife when she met former Penguins players Darryl Sydor and Mark Recchi. Sydor also played for Kamloops when he was there. Kudos to Canada Hockey winning the gold since Mark also played on their Olympic team previously.
  7. Would it be relevant to get the durometer ranges of these rings? Say, if you are boarding on slopes and it is 60 F air temps vs 20 F air temps -- the blue ring could change very little or could change a bunch.
  8. lol -- skwalann doesn't indicate if the avatar pic was from before or after the incident but that does look like it just isn't right.
  9. Yellow is listed here as 40 durometer (http://www.alpinecarving.com/binding_setup.html#risers). Unsure of the other values.
  10. Bora20 - Welcome to the site. I see you are from Kamloops. A former client of mine played lots of hockey there for the town's team and they later renamed the street outside the arena to honor him after he won a Stanley Cup. Maybe one day I'll get up that way to tour the town.
  11. Thanks, Steve. I'm hoping to only attain some of those attributes you list (the good ones).
  12. Since it is my birthday today, I got emails from all the forums I'm on. I noticed I am Flashby on the AcuraZine forum but it could also be the VW Owners Club, Honda Civic forum, 8th Gen Honda Civic forum, Palm Treo forum, CleanMPG forum ... it might be me - who knows.
  13. Doh, I've been called out. Well it depends which list. Team 3/S or 3Si from my previous car ('95 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4) or GreenHybrid or another from my current car ('06 Honda Civic Hybrid). Any of those?
  14. WE ARE !!!! (that was for you kinpa) True we are over the snowfall average for here but it would also be fun to go more than 2,000 ft on a run with more than 300 ft elevation drop <grin>. I went to Penn State in Erie which got plenty of snow so I'll have to make up for lost time. Here is a short video of some folks who took advantage of the snowfall in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago,
  15. Good catch and yes I did order the right setup (AT boots and TD3 standard bindings -- I'll clarify that in my signature). It was a video on "How to snowboard" and the students were in soft boots and bindings and that is what I first used and rented but taking them on/off took me about a minute each time - what a pain. In the video I saw the instructor using either step-in or standard 'bail' bindings and knew that is what I really, truly wanted.
  16. DEAL ! <spitting in hand and jutting it forward for a handshake> My friend and I are heading out this weekend to the local venue again and are definitely not ready for anything even remotely close to the local resort places. I'll let you know when we are though - thanks for the offer. Sometimes it might be best just to dive right in. Though I've only boarded once (never even downhill skiied before), I think I will catch on quickly and don't care for the people sitting in the middle of or walking up the middle of the Beginner/Bunny slope. That makes it hard to practice and not worry about falling on people talking on their cell phone. Argh. I just don't want to be 'that guy' who is falling all over the place in a trail where others are trying to ski or board so I wanted to get at least a little more practice before hitting a bigger place.
  17. Glad to see this is the forum setup that I'm used to with all the ribbing and joking and jesting and also some actual support and constructive comments thrown in. I can't wait. It just stinks that I'm getting interested in this at almost the end of our season for here. My friend who sold me his board is from Montana and he keeps telling me how nice it is out there. Maybe one of these seasons I will get out his way (Bridger, Big Sky, etc.).
  18. Ha, thanks. I'll reply for the rest of the forum but you, Helmut, aren't allowed to see it since you are from Cleveland. <smirk> Seven Springs is close but I haven't been there (Peek 'n Peak is a little farther away and a host of other ones too). Like I said, I ONLY started doing this on Sunday and then bought stuff the next day or two after a ton of research. I know I could have/should have started with more of a Beginner setup but what's the fun in that? I didn't like the time and effort it took to strap into the soft boot bindings after I saw a video with someone using the step-in style and fell in love with it. I'm an Engineer at heart so I knew that was what I would eventually want and just decided to take the plunge. (Also, if I decide to sell it then it is new enough that it still has some value.) So one more week at the local county park hitting the slopes on rented equipment and all 3 items arrives on Tuesday from 3 different parts of the States -- good timing.</smirk>
  19. ... I'll also add that I went boarding for the first time last weekend and got hooked and 2 days later bought the items below. My birthday is also Friday so what better time to pick up a new sport. Junkie? Insane? Yes and yes. I anticipate lots of fun and thrills but also a steep learning curve while I get up to speed with everything. Thanks in advance for everyone's help and support from the forum.
  20. Hello one and all ! I just bought a set of TD3 bindings so am new to the community. I also have some new boots on the way as well as a board from a friend. The board is a few years old and barely used. I can't wait to get all the items next week and start to set it up.
