  1. Beautiful shots of some of the most classic carvers ever. I remember loaning Joey Cabell my snowboard during a race at Buttermilk in the mid-90s. I had Burton bindings that don't need tools to adjust so he could cram his ski boots into them. Joey disappeared for a couple of hours and I was wondering if he was ever coming back. That was the beginning of the Buttermilk freecarving movement as far as I know started by Joey and then boosted by all the younger surfers, notably Cliff Ahumada who cranked up Pure Carve and made the earliest videos of surf carving.

As far as the Aspen area...

It started in Aspen at Highlands 84/85 and then when Buttermilk opened to Snowboarding in the 85/86 season...:) There were no HB's or Alpine boards

at Milk till 86/87 that I recall...Cliff and the Pure Carve Stoke he created peaked in the Mid Nineties to 2001 or so I call the age of camelot for Carving at Milk

and Yes Joey, was and is a major influence in the Carving done at Milk both then and now...

  2. "Lovewind" lived up to its name on Saturday.

Ink, DT & I rode #8. Wind out of the NW got stronger as the day went on. The wind kept the riff-raff away and made for fresh tracks each run. Visibility was about as bad as I have ever experienced. Each time I got near the top of the lift, I asked myself "why am I doing this?". When I got about half-way down the run, I'd find a big stash of fresh and think "Wow this is GREAT!". I'd get back on the lift and repeat. I rode until about 2PM when my legs started to give out.

    Another great day.

A True Cold Surf Experience...and something the Silver Surfer is known for :) :biggthump

  3. Last day at Milk today for this Season...:( My 25th year riding there :1luvu:

120 days on the hill with one week left at Aspen or Snowmass...:D

Not a lot of Deep Pow this year here but a Groomed Season to remember heading into Spring :)

May the Force be with You...:ices_ange

  4. Wow, Wed. and Thur. were just brutal conditions with the wind trying to be

the spoiler...stilll some good Pow turns to be had in trees...

From my deck at home I can tell the wind last night was hard out of the

northwest...so pick your spot based on that...a Pow day :biggthump

  5. Lady Lift OP yesterday says..."this is your 113 day, today"

I tell her, Uh OH! , years ago I hit a tree while skiing on Fri. the 13th and then two years later I had my appendex removed on Fri. the 13th. 13 is a number, especially on Fridays when I pay extra attention to what I am doing...;)

She Says, "I was Born on Friday the 13th" with a beautiful smile!

I say...."life is just full of coincidences" :o

  6. Bob-

Michelle, Angie and I tried to flag you down as you rode by us down Spar on Friday.

Spar on Fri. was as good as it gets!

Was that You?... never stop in Spar...:eplus2:

Just great conditions Jim, these little storm pulses are making some wonderful Pow and then Groom spring days...Oh La La...

Just unreal at Milk today to...Joey, Yana and a couple more enjoyed Racers edge, Javelin, ptarmigan and Buckskin groomed honey...just deserted splendor!

Joreg is here as well now with a group from Europe this week, also Tom, Lisa and Henry are here too.

They plan on Buttermilk tomorrow ...:biggthump

  7. No mention at all of the Original Carvers ?

    Such as...

    Peter Bauer

    Jean Nerva

    Jose Fernandes

    Serge Vitelli

To name just a few obvious Key figures :o of course there were many more as well!

The stance angles I set up and have used since 1985 were confirmed for me, when Peter sent this book to us in 1988...:biggthump

  8. I believe that I average around 120 carves per mile...

A mile being in a straight line down the hill, not the actual path both down and

across the hill which is much farther in miles traveled.

I ride Greens and Blues mostly and was curious how many turns others get

per mile based on where and how they ride.

    Thanks
