  1. Taylor knox does it a bit better http://www.radsurfclip.com/clip/taylor-knox-power-carve-1425356975/
  2. Just a curiosity thread, and i'm too lazy to search the forum. I am coming from of a less gear travel approach. Im thinking of bringing 2 boards on my next trip but if I can get away with - only one pair of boots and one pair of bindings....... I have a snowboard background but been only surfing for the last 15years so i rather carve than jump.. My softboot bindings are 15year old burton customs - on their last legs - and i have a pair of hardboot bindings and boots.
  3. if he actually would have got barrelled it would been class.. the first section with skiis is a bit of a laugh

    eBay

A curse and a blessing... Came across these. Haven't bid on em yet!...
  5. Think he does golf stuff now! Paid 70€ for it - new in original plastic wrapping. I'll give it a go if I don't like it I can sell it
  6. Isnt and hasnt alpine snowboarding always been dead? But then isn't that the charm of the sport - its small with hardcore enthusiast and all stuff is "by riders for riders" - mainstream snowboard def took the wrong turn there in the mid 90's
  7. Sound - well what I have been thinking of doing is to take my "softboot" board ( a 169cm, 25cm wide with a 140cm effective edge) and put the hard boot and race plates on that one before I even move on to the factory prime. In regards to surfing - its kind of funny (and probably a result of all boards are machine shaped this days) that the emphasis on volyme in litre has exploded lately. Before it was a hit or miss if the board would float you or not, well it was pending the shaper if he knew what he was doing. Im riding 6'0"s now compared to 6'3"s a few years back but all my boards have roughly the same volume. And it seems PU is coming back again - compared to all surftech and salomon's attempt to do boards. You def need less amount of boards this days also, a one board quiver is getting more and more likely - well as long its not big or heavy slabs where you need a bit more meat
  8. Agree - its way easier to buy new stuff than to get better technique - I can specially relate to that with my surfing - what really helped me to get better was a few days with a trainer in portugal a few years back - I've gone thru +30 boards and i would basically order the same dimensions. If you apply the right technique - you can surf any board really as per video below ( well if the gear isn't absolute crap and completely wrong) Heading to Davos in December so will check if there is any local coaches.
  9. Thanks for the response - I guess that explains why the original price was only like 500ish and why it's still unsold - I saw the board in April for the same price. While a f2 silverpiel test board with a 75% discount went in a week or so. Sounds like saving the money and use it for a trip is more well spent
  10. Thanks for all tips. I have a 160cm factory prime already. 80$ for board, binding and boots on eBay. New unused - but I'm still looking around a bit. (Just in case) The Diablo was class - I was like 18 and 70kg when I got it. Used to do flatland carving 360s at my local hill. Ridiculous looking board as it was twin tip - effective edge probably only something like 140cm so massive noose and tail. Swollowed everything in its way and it was fast! I'll stay away from that völkl. Here's the link to it http://www.snowshop.de/Voelkl-Racetiger-GS-183-Snowboard_1
  11. I used to have an old nitro Diablo 182cm but I take its nothing like it?
  12. found one - new for 200€ from a shop in Germany Good deal or leave it as it's terrible board? Yes I'm the guy who is a newbie at the hardboot carving but buying gear in offseason usually means a good deal!
  13. When I went back snowboarding this year after like 10 years...it was amazing to see how little snowboards you saw in the hills. Like compared to the late 90's and of all snowboarders I reckon I only saw ONE that could actually do carving turns the rest was skidding sideways. Looks like all kids are on twintip skis in the park these days.
  14. Barrel? Im on a good streak currently - 3 surfs in as many days. But was cold today. That's actually one bad thing with surfing - you're usually colder surfing than snowboarding! Well surfing in the british isles anyway,
  15. Surfing is the most frustrating sport ever - even if the conditions are good it can be uber crowded or you can have a bad day - sucked over the falls and break your board and what have you. In regards to similarities - there are during certain moments - like full rail backhand bottom turns. But that's where it stops... Well Tow in surfing would be similar to snowboard - but forget about any carving turns! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWkBszNs-h8
  16. Surfing in bigger waves reminds a tiny bit about snowboarding. The speed and the full rail carving turns. I have been surfing since late 90's and I would not start as a beginner today even if you paid me to do it. Snowboarding is so easy compared to surfing and when you go on a snowboard trips you won't get skunked. Check the carve 9s in below clip and the slowmo at 1.35 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yI9NKBvON4
  17. check ebay.de for a pair of Snowboard boots von DEELUXE Gr. 27.5 including binding.... ***im not selling these***
  18. I was looking to buy a pair of rossi bindings and wanted to stuck my 3 hole burton discs on them.
  19. Thanks for the response.
  20. Ya, i'm just getting into Alpine - I did some research on the burton step in race plates and it seems like the first generation models was a bit unreliable - that they would open mid turn? This leaves me with two options - cross my fingers and hope they don't open or get a newer more reliable binding but then I need to find a one that can hold a 3 hole plate? These are the bindings (not actual pic just stole from web):
  21. Stupid question - but are the burton 3 hole race discs compatible with other bindings - like early 2000 rossignol and etc? Or am i better off drilling holes in the disc?
  22. So does people take a day off when it looks good, crowded on the back corries and empty in the piste?
  23. My brother is dragging me to Davos second week in December. I might do a surgical strike mid week Jan/Feb or March - its only a 10 hours journey or 750km - people have advised - Scotland = don't plan a trip - go when it looks good. This was my last ski trip - http://www.upguides.com/trips/kebnekaise-ski-touring-sweden 1999 i think it was - no lifts but we didnt get to ski a lot due to avalanche risk
  24. So picked up a Lamar Power (Prototype) 169cm from 2001/2 a few months ago (it was CHEAP) - never used - now i'm looking around online trying to find reviews on it - and there is nothing out there - specially now with Lamar totally gone and Lamar was really never known for fast carving boards. I still have an old Mike Ranquet from 94 i think - heavy stuff with baseless bindings!!!!! Length 169cm Effective edge 134cm Nose/Tail 29.pcm Waist.24.9cm Sidecut 9.3m ( a bit tight maybe) Nose/Tail kick 5.8cm / 4cm Camber 1.1cm Setback 3cm The stats sounds promosing but is it Crap that can be trashed (like ride in conditions with more grass than snow like the field behind my house the 1-2days every second year we get snow) - or an ok ride as an allmountain soft / hardboot carver.
