  1. I was going to ride Saturday, but if a few of you are out Sunday morning I'll do that instead :) MSM you say?

Yeah Sunday! Ian - want to car-pool? Also toying with the idea of heading to Cascade tomorrow (Thursday) after lunch for a few hours. Anyone interested? Will be my first run of the year, so be prepared for a good laugh.

  2. Ticket is booked - now I just need a room mate (or two). I am a 30-something female attending my first SES (so excited, but I have promised my friends here that I am not going to be too excited around them). Would prefer a set-up where we could prepare some of our own food.

I am also interested in exploring car-pooling from Denver. My flight gets me into Denver on Friday afternoon (weather dependent) but I might spend a day in Denver with some friends. I am flexible and could be convinced to head up to Aspen on Friday or sometime during the week. I plan on staying the full week (my flight back to Canada is actually on Wednesday) so return dates / times can also be negotiated.

  3. Thanks for organizing this again. I loved getting together with so many people last year and learning. Maybe this year I will learn to carve.

Not sure that a weekend day would work - too many muppets on the hill! And then we can go seek bigger hills and not necessarily hang around Ottawa. Having said that, don't schedule around me - depending on when you start, I will miss at least three (I am assuming that you will not have a session the week of ECES)

  4. A quick update on this board (which I affectionately call Two Ravens because of the beautiful top sheet). I did buy it off Bruce and it now has a new forever home - it is still downstairs waiting for "better" conditions for its first run of the season ... the conditions here are very early season with a high likely hood of rocks, not for my "new" board. Looking forward to taking it to some BIG mountains this year and hoping it continues to be nice to me. Will write more as the season cools down.

Yes; my quiver is up to three boards - two Coilers and a Donek. This year board money is going to lift tickets instead of gear :D

  5. There is a group (12-18ish?) of us that rode Tuesdays last year at Vorlage. This was an informal teaching session/free ride session that Ian M was gracious enough to organize/lead/teach last season. All rider abilities were welcome and it's a great crew of local guys and gal.

    Haha! Thanks Paul :-)

I noticed a certain Donek in your collection. Makes me smile, glad the plank has a good home and will get used, was a little too big for me.

Welcome Neil! Always good to have more people on the hills. Putting pressure on Ian to run more sessions this year. It was pretty awesome last year, apart from the conditions. We were able to bring a few more over to the fast side. Cascade was good to us last year and it should be a blast this year. Vorlage was getting just a little small. I know the guys who ride at Edelweiss often ride on weekday mornings - I might be joining them a few times this year. Anyone else open for mid-week day-time riding?

  6. It can not snow on the 14th until after my flight takes off ... I am tired of constantly being delayed. But I hope that as soon as I am in the air, the skies open up here and you are delivered a full blast of early winter. Sorry I will miss you all at the Clocktower on the 14th - I will be on a plane somewhere over the Pacific.

  7. I am not sure what you think I was suggesting, but I was thinking the silliest thing I could do on the snow was break something. That would be silly. And a waste of a season. Off the snow would be to be sucked into buying a Tremblant pass! That would also be silly, and a waste of money.

  8. Thanks for everyone's tips - Snowmass was AMAZING. We did it both days. Spent most of my time in the Big Burn and Elk Camp areas, but did a little exploring - including a stupid mogul field.

You are all so lucky to ride here regularly. Wow. I will be back next year - will try and make it to SES now.

  9. My skier friend lives in Colorado so is going to be bored no mater where we go unless it is big back country POW. Non-carvers don't necessarily know what would or would not work for me; which is why I am turning to everyone here. I am still hearing Snowmass at least once; maybe I will hit it both days then. Lets just assume I am at Snowmass next Sunday and I will go from there.

Thanks everyone - only a week. Very excited, especially since I am not sure winter will last another week here.

  10. Looks like Snowmass and Buttermilk are my destinations! Very excited, just got a fresh tune on the Donek so it should be ready to rip. Hope I hold up with the altitude. Current aim is now only two days :( Sunday and Monday

The up-side is that I hear mountain biking should be OK that week, so I will be in the Furita area later in the week on a bike. Poor me! :p

  11. Last year I came for a friend's wedding, but it was too late in the year so the board was left at home ... but this year my plane lands in Grand Junction on March 29th and I will be heading into the Aspen area. I am not 100% sure where I will be riding, but a friend has a few Aspen passes that he needs to use up, so it will be in the Aspen area / family.

From reading what everyone says, I know I have to hit Buttermilk. Where else should I aim for? I think I will have about three or four days (Saturday - Tuesday inc.) but we are still finalizing our itinerary and are open to hitting different mountains on different days (especially based on advice and where you think it might be busy). He is a skier who lives in Grand Junction, so he has an idea as well, but as a powder-lover, we have slightly different needs when it comes to groom!

Also; anyone have a line on cheap tickets? Where can I purchase reasonably priced lift-passes at this time of year, or will hills be discounting by now?

Will try post where / when I think I might be out, if people want to join me.

  12. Dude! You totally got Chinese food for lunch. Don't make me sound like some lame chalet-help who tried to make you lunch and failed. The fact that I offered to make you lunch should be the first point you raise ... you should explain that Tabby was kindly heating up some fantastic Chinese food for you and accidently dropped it, but she was able to whip up a second plate for you in minutes!!!

Sigh ... honestly is evaporating as fast as winter. Or not - guess who is going to Colorado in two weeks! (Sorry Ian and Ryan, I know you hate me!)
