  1. Sean sent  me a photo of his forward lean settings on his Deeluxe Track 325 boots he rides with his MK.   He's goofy, so #4 setting on his front boot and #5 on his rear boot, so opposite of me as Regular but I'm going to try 4/4 next time out on my 425's.

When the lean mechanism is set to #5 position on my 425's it creates a huge gap between the liner and the Boot cuff....even with my foot in the boot!

Also when in position #5 the top two buckles won't/can't reach the tooth plates!...... so how do you buckle them without getting new/longer  upper boot straps??

  2. I hate to say it, but here in Tahoe the Required Parking Reservations for weekends and holidays at Palisades has made a huge difference in the total amount of masses and Asses on the hill!

If your up here on the weekend you already know it's going to be crowded but now It's comfortably..... crowded.

I went up yesterday/Friday (No Parking Reservation Required) and it was crazy crowded for a Fri.   When I was coming out at 11:30am there were still a line of cars backed up a mile long still trying to get in!

    Hey Scully,

I know your pain brother.......   but at this point and time I'm just ever so happy to be out on the Hill and if I get a good turn or two I rejoice in that!  Always working for more/better turns but two surgeries  and being on the AIL sidelines (seemingly forever) has shown me I'm mortal and appreciate the struggles and accomplishments life or the hill  throws my way.

Carpe Diem ........and don't forget to enjoy the day!

  4. I love my 425's,  I've got a pair of the older  black/green version I use on my pow setup and also a pair of the current blue/yellow model I have set up for my hard charging carving decks and  while looking for another pair of the current model blue/yellow Deeluxe 425's I asked Ivan at Icarve for his price and he says the 425's Have Been Discontinued This Year With No More 425's Being Produced And No Plans To Replace/Upgrade  It!!

Currently there still seems to be plenty of  the current model 425s available on the internet........but that it has been Discontinued is  disheartening on so many levels to say the least!

Anybody got any insider info on this?

RR,  you owe it to yourself to check out the Moss Snowstick lineup!

    https://www.mosssnowstick.com/23-24

Not the skinny width your looking for but my daily driver on the comeback trail, post hamstring (July) and ankle (Nov.) surgeries is a Moss PQ60 26.5W (I'm on my 3rd Moss PQ and just ordered next years Moss PQ's stiffer  "EX" version!)  in TD3 SW SI's and Modo 28 older model Black and Green Track 425 Pro hardboots -with softer tongue and softer liner and stock 5 position lean.  I'm running 50/55 angles currently, which is about as low as my ankle will stand as I had been at 60/65 on this board (which is the angles set on all my other boards) no problem at all.

Yes I've tried numerous times to adapt to the "toes to the edge"  binding setup but I find it's just to uncomfortable and I lose performance and always end back up at steeper angles.

All Moss boards has huge setback which makes it floats effortless like a surfboard and is a very surfy ride.....that can also Lay Out Carves On The Same Run!   I don't know another board that can do both without you having to change your angles and/or stance for the desired discipline.

These are serious Pow Slayers!  Check them out...

    https://www.mosssnowstick.com/

There's a Moss dealer here in Tahoe.  Tahoe Sports Hub in Truckee has the entire Moss Armada for sale and in there Demo Fleet  if you ever get down this way.

it turns so fast it just “picks me up” and I find myself standing up again, and going perpendicular to the fall line.

That's a great visual of what I love about my Donek  Rev 163 and  Coiler Angrry 160!    With SL like boards you can feel the board start pulling you the opposite direction to start the next turn even before your even out of the last turn!    With SL boards your "TPR" quota (aka: Turns Per Run) is set to Maximum!  So  you better be ready for fast and furious fun!  :biggthump

SL boards are great for dodging meat popsicles!  I feel like Superman flying in and out of turns and traffic.  It's like I can dodge an oncoming Bullet when on these boards!  Of course what's creeping up behind us will always be our Kryptonite!

And for something different, when I want to lay out turns I got a Swoard Dual  168 that really wants you to finish big sweeping turns and the more you lean into it the more it hooks up and  the longer turn it wants to make for you before you commit/fall into the next turn!    Just the opposite of my SL rides!

That's why most of us here have a Quiver (or Armada imc  :smashfrea) for different styles of riding and/or for different conditions!

Learn to embrace your TPR quota on that f2 of yours!

carving thing is not healthy for longevity in snowboarding

After being on the AIL off and on for two years since a drunk skier took me out, and two surgeries and months of PT later, I'm probably a couple weeks away from being cleared to be back on the hill for work.... and I still get anxious when I see the parking lot more than half full.

On my road back to Hard Charging Carving my season has just barely started.  I am literally just 5 minutes away from the closest lift at my local hill, but the 6 times  I have gone out so far this season I have chosen to drive up to an hour to go riding/carving mid- week night riding when it's mostly deserted slopes!

Additionally today, being I'm probably less than two weeks away from being cleared by Workers Comp Docs.  to be back on the Hill for work, to add insult to injury I'm told by my Boss I'm banned from riding for work, riding during work hours, riding with our racers...being on the Hill for work....etc.

I can continue to direct the program, but from the sidelines as i have been doing this season, as the Insurance regulators have evidently stipulated my work/the Academy will not be covered unless my job description is changed to non-skiing//riding.

"They" can't risk another payout if I got hit/hurt again on the Hill while working.

Of course what I do on my time is up to me...... but here's another level of "Collision" outcomes I would never expected and have no words for.........

backwards with front foot at 2 and rear foot at 4?

Ha! Backwards maybe!     ...but that's what I'm running,   2 front and 4 rear.

My logic and experience with front boot setting at 2, I have increased my forward lean so I need less movement and less pressure to initiate and a hold heel side carve..

Same but opposite with rear boot set at #4 for Toe side carves.

4 on both boots for me

    Hey OJ

I've been on the AIL sideline since last April and  just now starting my season and trying to get my head and body back in the Carving game and having to remember and redial my settings from last season.... but for  Hard Charging Carving wouldn't you want the OEM Lean Mechanism settings to be opposite between front boot and back boot?

I'm regular, left ft. forward and I thought I read somewhere here..... front boot locked with more forward lean at #2 setting will make Heel side initiation easier/quicker....which seems to help/work imo.

My rear boot is opposite setting at #4 setting which puts way more pressure on my shin/tongue of the boots to make toe sides more effective/efficient......seems to work imo.

Of course being me I could have it completely backwards!...........

    What say the Sages??

  12. Well, post ankle surgery in Nov. my season has barely started and in trying to get my carving groove back I've been out maybe 5 times in mostly pow or loose groom conditions on my Moss PQ60 and old Black Track 425's with a softer liner and softer tongue using the OEM 5 position lean mechanism in walk mode...which has worked well.   I currently can last about 6-7 laps/runs before my ankle is done for the day.....which is an improvement from where I started!   I think I will try the other walk mode option, limited 3-5 "Turned Knob" position tomorrow night with the new pow were expecting!

Anyway.....so in trying to work my way back up to my hard charging carving decks (Coiler Angrry, MK Mutant) yesterday I took my everyday work board AM Swoard Dual 168 out on the groomers with the oem 5 position lean mechanism on my front boot locked 1 forward from mechanism center mark 3, aka position 2 and  the rear boot locked 1 back from the center 3 mark, aka position 4......this worked very well and I felt I was getting some of my carving  groove back.  I'm running the newer  edition green/orange track 425's with TD3 SW SI's with 3 toe/6 heel lift/disks.

So if your running Track boots with the oem 5 position lean mechanism wondering what settings you are using for carving on the groom with your carving decks?

    binding angles to 45/25

Kudos to you if you can do it but If your rear ankle is the surgery survivor I don't see how that ankle can stand the torque of standing sideways but having to torque/turn to face forward....just to ride straight!   My ankles can't handle those low angles!

  14. Hey RR,

50/20 is ok for carving in icy conditions (but that’s not the intent of this board) but puts a lot of pressure on my front ankle and makes the board hard to control getting off the lift.

Take this with a grain of salt as I'm the undisputed King of Underhang here....

50/20 isn't that steep on the front to "pressure"  torque??  your ankle imo unless you have some pre existing conditions....aka: surgeries or bone spurs,,,,maybe it's a pressure point in your front boot??

Also maybe the "hard to control getting off the lift" has more to do with not enough weight on the front?? Try moving your front binders up 1 set of inserts....this will give you more control.  You might like it!

I use TD 3 SW SI's on all my boards and no problems with weight, height or stiffness for me. Also my bindings are not centered, I use the infamous _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Bias (front binding is set up behind the center mark of boot/ft is closer to heel edge and rear binding is set past the center mark of the boot/ft is closer to toe edge)

My Pow board is a 26w Moss PQ60 and at almost 3 months post ankle surgery I'm currently trying 55/55 (which are LOW for me) with mondo 28 boots.   I don't use BTS, I stuck with the OE 5 position adjustable walk/ride lever which I leave open in the walk mode for pow days.  I do use/have an older set  Deluxe 425 Pro boots set up with a softer liner and a softer tongue I use specifically with this board.

The guys here have been after me for years to lower my angles out to the edge and I've tried numerous times but always end up back at these steeper angles.  I've never felt any problem getting pressure edge to edge with these angles.  Call me a mutant but my ankles/hips don't like low angles.   I even ride 65/60 angles on my 40w wake board no problem.

My propensity for steeper angles might have something to do with numerous broken bones all on the left side from a variety of sports over the years and surgeries on left ankle, hip and shoulder!  The pressure I feel at lower angles (standing sideways but trying to face forward) really puts pressure on my left ankle and hip and I drift to the right at lower speeds coming into the lift which is even more difficult to compensate for at low speeds!

My hard charging carving boards are also TD3 SW SI's with a different and stiffer set of Deluxe 425 Pro's set up with bias and are 60/65 on 20w boards.  I lock the OE walk/ride lever at 1+ on the front boot and 1 minus  on the rear boot on this set of boots.

    Hope this helps.....

  15. Just got back from my 5th  outing of my season, night riding up at Boreal still.  I'm feeling good I'm making progress!  I'm up to 7! laps off the top, and those were without having to take my boot off to get the pressure off the ankle scar!!.  But by the end of the 7th lap my ankle was telling me.....Bro, Hell No!

Docs are still saying I should be cleared for returning to on hill work at my local hill Squaw/Palisades March 1st! 🏂

I can almost see the light at the end of this (nightmare) tunnel! 🎉

    binding bias?

    Hey  SS,

Yep..... been a long time fan of  "The Word That Shall Not Be Spoken!"  _ _ _ _ _ _ _  Bias.

All my boards, from my Moss PQ60 Pow to the (I'm too scared to ride it!) newly minted MK Mutant are set up bias.

I've tried all these boards without it and for the mutant I am Bias works for me.....

If the Oxess RS164 with Allflex inserts I bought ever shows up!! I am going to set that up normal with TD3 SW SI's to start as a baseline before I add the Allflex Carve Plate and BP lower assembly.

(underhang) means the edge has a LOT of leverage on you. It takes a lot more effort to load the edge when it's far from your toes and heels

I believe you Corey....but it doesn't feel that way to me.  Steeper angles, no matter the board width feels normal.  I've been riding the same steeper angles on all my boards...even my wakeboard!

What I've learned from this most recent attempt at  angle reduction (since the two surgeries) is it's tough on my ankle to be standing sideways at these lower angles but facing forward.   I have so much facing forward hip  rotation happening I drift left even when just  trying to go straight at moderate speed coming into the lifts.

On my 1 day out last week I reduced to 40/45, then on 2nd day I moved up to 45/50, and now at 50/55 for tomorrows test.
