  1. Al- thanks for a smooth & easy transaction...can't wait for the big box to show up!
  2. I may not have anything relative to contribute...but i can tell you that i love the boardercross style and considered/rode all of the boards you listed except the T7. I couldn't get ahold of one... and i have yet to see one. They all sold out so fast! I happen to find & buy a Palmer Black Crown 161 (from an X-racer) - which is the most rockin board i have ever owned!! You can't go wrong with the T6 though.
  3. Sorry- one more question... I have standard TD-1's on my current ride- I'm assuming I'll need some sort of heels for the step ins? I have Head Statos Pros FWIW. Thanks for the help, and apologies for the newb questions.
  4. Does the $800 your asking include shipping?
  5. Hi- i'm seriously considering your board + bindings...i was just alerted to this thread/your ebay listing through another memeber here (Piusdrcarve). Since it's on ebay now (with bids)...i'm assuming i'll have to wait until the auction ends in about 9 days or so? The only other board i was considering was a Donek metal...i've heard great things about them as well here. Also, i'm 6' and about 200lbs...fairly new to hardbooting/carving- but lots of experience in softies. Most riding will be done here on the "ice-coast", with a trip or 2 out west once a year. Too much board for the small trails here? I've been wanting to upgrade to TD-3's...so the package is particularly attractive to me.. Thanks! -billy
  6. Hi all, I'm making my trip here from Virginia to Co for my yearly snowboard trip. I normally stay & ride in the Breckenridge/Vail/Beaver area- but this year i've apparently scored a free place to stay by Steamboat! I've never been there- but i've heard great things. I'm thinking about maybe going down to the Aspen area as well for a day or 2, since i've never been there either. Here's the question: Since i normally do the "Epic" pass at Breck- what's the best deal going for this area- "Triple-play"? I realize that many of the best deals are in conjunction with getting a place to stay too- but i really only need that for a night or 2 tops. Will be in the area(s) for aprox. 1 week. Thanks for any/all replies...and i hope to run into some hard-booters out there! :)
  7. hero: Sent you an email...
  8. I'm interested- but i weigh 200lbs and don't want to have the same "soft" issues you do. I'm pretty new to carving- so i'm sure you're much better at "pushing" the board to flex than me....but i'd rather have something that i won't need to unload soon in favor of a stiffer one like your Coiler. At 6' tall, should i be concerned with the length? (i've been told by a few i should look in the mid 170's area...)
  9. Thanks for the head-up...i do get those emails- but unfortunantly weekends are a no-go for me. Anyone else with some board/binding suggestions? I'm leaning towards TD2 or 3's step-ins. 185 too big for me? thanks all...
  10. Thanks GeoffV- i sortof remember your handle-name here...i may very well have met you last year. Do you know where "Bomber" is in Summit County? Time is tight, but i might do that...or at least stop by. I will most deffinantly be in for the next ECES at Stratton!
  11. No shameless plug..thank you! I was hoping some peeps might throw out some good equipment too. I read through your responses, and someone commented that it might be a bit too flexy at or over 200lbs...that's about where i am. Obviously, i'm probably a ways away from really "pushing" the board skill-wise...but on the same token i tend to pick things up quickly and i don't wanna throw down on this wishing i had something stiffer for my size. Also, at 185- is that too much length for me & my tiny hills for mountains? Most people recommended 171"- to mid 70's for me. Thanks again...and i'm considering your offer BTW.
  12. It was mentioned to me by more than a few people that my current set-up may very well be hindering me from getting better at this carving thing. ;) I have alot of experience in softies, ect... 6' tall about 200lbs. I currently have a 163 Renntiger with TD1's. Head Stratos Pro boots. I wear size 11 in regular shoes- forgot the Mondo size on my boots. I don't have the benifit of lots of "TOM", and i barely ever run into other hardbooters here in the DC/MD/VA area where i live to learn about gear/and or riding pointers. I love the thought of getting some step-ins, and would rather "grow into" a board skill-level..verses getting something i'll want to get rid of sooner than later. I don't know too much about the Renntiger that i already have as far as a fit regarding my weight, size, ect. Many people at the ECES said i should probably have a longer board. So here's the question: If money were no object (but it actually is! :o) what would you recommend for a board, size and bindings? I live and will be doing most of my riding here on the ICE-coast, but do make a trek to the Rockies in Colorado every year. Leaving in about 3 weeks actually to Breckenridge! So i'd like to have something that can be used around here as well- verses the football field-wide trails you all are blessed with on the "real" mountains. Thanks all for any replies, advise.
  13. As a total FNG- i just wanted to tell everyone here pretty much what you already knew. Everyone i met couldn't have been a nicer, more helpful group of people to hang out with, and teach me this addicting sport. I had a total of about 8 days and maybe 20hrs max in hardboots on a carving board before coming to the ECES- and i feel like i progressed so much after this experience. Totally worth the 8hr solo drive for me each way. I'd do it again (and hope to) and if anyone is on the fence about trying this in the future...just DO IT. Special thanks go out to Rob (motocross helmet) PSR Eric (legendary teachings), Dave, Tom, Paul, CarveFather- and any/everyone else i might- (and probably did) miss. Hope to see all you guys at the next one- i hope to be rippin' it up by then! :eplus2: I'm the dude in the middle so you peeps will remember who i was...Thanks for taking the pic Dave!
  14. I'll see you there as well...leaving here in VA first thing in the morning! :D:biggthump
  15. anyone down with going out during the day into the evening on Wednesday? Whitetail, Lib or RT- i plan on doing one of them. I've heard that some carvers get out to RT on Mondays and Weds. I was at WT all day today (after 2pm) and didn't see ONE hardbooter. I was riding soft and agressive with my friends...but this wednesday, i'd like to just bring the Alpine to learn more. Where to go??
  16. Since i ride goofy...does that mean when i'm heel-side, try to touch my left hand to the right boot- and toe-side, right hand to left boot? Thanks for the great write-up *dingbat*, and all others. I'm certainly gonna try to take all this advice in steps- hopefully i'll be able to get out there tomorrow. I'm sure others will be able to check on this thread too if they are like me and hit this wall. :o
  17. thanks so much for all the replies so far guys...is much appreciated. I have read the "Norm" a few times...and will further analyze the info to actually put into use. It's so much easier for me to learn by watching someone in person...so i hope i get lucky enough to run into someone who knows what they are doing soon. ;-) Also, do you think that this board is too small for me? I'm 6', 190 with a 28.5 Mondo. I was initially told that it would be "fine" to learn on...but i certainly don't want it to hinder me by having too small of a "sweet spot" or whatever. It's a Rentiger 163. I guess i just figured that faster speeds and perfect technique would constitute the larger board later, so while i'm learning this would be fine. Wrong?? On a sidenote: my other soft setup board is a Burton 162.
  18. Hello all. I have about 10 years of snowboarding experience in softboots/bindings. I would classify myself as a strong intermediate rider. But with my increasing love of speed, ect. i know that the stiff setups of hardboots/bindings are the only way to go for me in the future. I commited last year (and have ridden 3 times this year so far) to buying alpine equipment...and am just trying to make it work. It seems like i just end up skidding the rear of the board to scruff off speed when things start getting too quick- verses just making a sharp "carve" to do it. Not to mention- i'd need practically the whole trail width to make that "carve" to slow down if i did...a feat that's next to impossible riding around with 987050985 other new people on the hill, just waiting to clobber me. It's almost happened more than once. Also, it seems that finding a suitable trail for myself to learn has proven to be a challenge, as they are either too flat, or too steep. I've only seen like 2 other hardbooters so far, and they skidded around just like i do. I mostly load up my front leg (goofy) for the edge to bite, and try to keep the rear light..as to not skid- but this causes fatigue. Should i adjust the rear binding so i can tuck that rear knee behind my front let more during turns? I have so many questions, and haven't been able to ride with anyone with the experience to answer yet. I'm not the type to ever give up, but this is frustrating...as i picked up "regular" snowboarding (no disrespect intended :)) and skiing very easily. I live just outside of DC, so i mostly ride at Liberty and Whitetail in Pa. For what it's worth, i'm 6' 190lbs, 163" board, TD-1 bindings, Head Strats boots. What did you good carvers have to do to get over this hurdle? Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance for any and all helpful replies! -Billy
  19. I'll be at Whitetail today if anyone wants to show...
  20. Hey people...i'm pretty new and am just getting the hang of trying to carve with an alpine board. I've been 3 times this year (ever) but i think i'm picking it up ok. I have been riding a soft setup (Burton Baron 162 Wide board) for about 5 years...and am obviously much better with that than i am with my newly acquired Volkl Rentiger 163. I'd love to meet up with others and learn everything i can. I live in Alexandria, Va- so Liberty is the closest to me- i was just there yesterday (12/24). No other hardbooters there. Seems like there's more at Whitetail and Roundtop....any reasons why? I work nights, so daytime is perfect for me- i'm trying to go at LEAST once a week if i can.
  21. Hello all. First post here, and i was JUST introduced to the carving world earlier this week. Well, i just made a purchase of a board & bindings from a fellow forum member (thanks Dave!), and i need to find some boots. I have never been in hardboots (except for on skis) so i'm just learning about the sizes. I live just outside of Washington DC, and primarily will be riding this east-coast "crud" lol, but am looking forward to my annual trip out west (Vail/Beaver Creek) in about a month. I currently ride a Burton Baron 162 with a boot size of about 10 or so- i think. About 4 yrs worth of experience. I wear size 11 tennis shoe, am 6' 195lbs. The board i just bought is a Volkl Renn Tiger 163 with TD1 bindings. I understand i may never find anything used...and am prepared to buy new if i have to...but i thought i'd check anyway. All feedback and or responses are appreciated.
