  1. Erik J, I was there from 9:00 to 11:30 and riding my E-deck. I didn't see any other hard riders there except for my buddy Tommy. Where were you riding? I rode twice on south peak and the rest of the time on Bear peak (racing trail). I didn't think it was to bad though, the conditions were pretty good. As for people, I thought it was no better or worse than any other Saturday morning. I only ride my smaller decks on weekends because unless your making tight turns, you'll seldom have the chance to turn at all.
  2. Mike, One thing the kids at your local snowboard shop were right about, the fact that it is sometimes hard to find what you are looking for when it comes to carving boards, boots and bindings. There are many companies that make equipment. Look at some of the links on this site and you'll find companies. As far as your old equipment, ride what you've got and look at the for sale section of this site. If you want Burton bindings you can try www.klug.com. He may still have some old Burton bindings that you can use. Hey, don't let the little grommit snowboarders at your local shop fool you, there are plenty of hard riders out there.

The first asym board I owned was the white and pink Burton PJ. I bought it with Burton Fex Bindings. They had three straps, one of which went around the lower shin area. The guy on ebay doesn't know his ass from his elbow. I'll try to e-mail ebay guy tomorrow at work. Jack's list above explains the color combination year to year.
  4. Three years ago I mounted a set of Burton carbon race plates on a 162 k2 fatbob. It was my first day out on the snow and I didn't want to work my legs hard, so I though the fatbob would be better tahn one of my carving decks. Good intentions, bad outcome. On my third run I was turning the board so hard that it was flexing underneath the binding. It flexed so much that it snapped the binding in half. I had never seen anything like it before, but there it was in two seperate pieces. My advice to you is, you better have a fairly firm freeride deck. If it isn't, don't crank hard, deep carves or you might end up with one and a half bindings.
  5. Mountain Creek will be opening this weekend 12/18/04. They have been blowing snow non-stop since Early Monday morning. My guess is that they will have three peaks opening by the end of the weekend, South peak, Bear peak, and Vernon peak(north). See you there.
  6. Stay forward as much as possible, stay as low as possible by bending your knees, and don't hang your ass off the side of the board.
  7. I have one carving video from 1995. Does anyone know of any other recent carving videos and where I can get them. I don't want the expression session videos. I've seen them allready.
  8. vaguelyevilguy What angles are your bindings set at now? When I ride my freestyle board my back binding is at a six degree angle and the front is at a fifteen degree angle. (This helps to ride switch) All three of my carving decks are 69 degree back and 66 degree front. An extreme difference. Thats because hard riding takes a much different approach than soft. When riding soft its more work on flexing your ankles and applying pressure to the front of your boot. This is when you want low angle stances. When hard riding you tend to pressure the side of your boot and flexion is mainly concentrated on your knees. This is the time for higher angle stances. You should get real comfortable with the stance you have right now. If you're carving on soft boots Your angles should be low. I don't think it is a great idea to go changing to any thing over 30.
  9. I'm thankful for my wife and daughter. I'm thankful for cold weather and snowmaking. I'm thankful for my friend Andy who is in Iraq fighting for my freedom. I am really thankful for that big six point buck that has been walking through my back yard the last couple of days. I will be really really thankful if I see him tomorrow while I'm sitting in my tree stand. (It's my treestand and not some persons from Wisconsin)
  10. You bet Boogieman, I am a high school geometry teacher. I am teaching my Honors Geometry class about circles and how they relate to conic sections and snowboarding. The STUDENTS will be making complicated calculations based on the curvature of a snowboard based on circular side cuts. I will also relate this problem to pre-calculus students based on parabolic and hyperbolic curves. All of which are based on conic sections. In order to get a realistic problem I have to get all the details straight. So I posed the question because I wasn't exactly sure. The answer I recieved confirms where I had thought the curve ends. A few cm back based on individual manufacturers and where they think the nose and tail curve will start. The point of inflection may very between manufaturers.
  11. BoogieMan, Knowing the approximate point at which the sidecut ends makes it possible for me to tell the (almost exact) sidecut radius based on a parabolic, hyperbolic, or circular sidecut. All based on conic sections.
  12. If you lay your board on its side on a flat ground, you will have a gap between your board and the ground at the midpoint of your boards length. Given the points at which the sides of your board come in contact with the ground, about how far from these contact points towards the middle of your board does the sidecut radius end. I think this is a question better suited for the engineering department of a snowboard company but I would like to hear other peoples replies.
  13. Sorry AJCDice, this was for Velveeta.
  14. AJCDice, I ride at Whiteface for two days a year.It is about 2 hours away. I also ride my E-Deck for a couple of runs while I'm there. Take you, your E-Deck and your fiances little brother and go up to Whiteface for a day. You'll never want to ride ANY other ski area again.
  15. Camberpopper, My friend Sean rode for Apocalypse in 1993 right after riding for Hot. I had bought two Hot Logical boards from him in 1992 and he was showing me his new Apocalypse. I think a guy named Jerry was a representative of the company. We all rode at Vernon Valley in northern NJ. We are about 50 miles from Ellenville NY. I'm not quite sure but I believe the board was a solid yellow color. He may of had another that was a red color.
  16. Ak, As Rick Ferguson kind of said, you probably should ride any equipment you now own and Demo ANY boards you can find. This is my 17 th year riding and I've carved ice on my old soft Kemper Rampage (1989) up to my Volkl Renn Tiger. Every board can be adapted to ride ice. Some adapt better than others.
  17. I subscribe to Transworld Snowboarding. Back in the late 80's and early 90's they use to post the results from the US Open. All events including Slalom and GS. Their articles were actually written well and in some sort of order. Today when I read through this magazine it is mostly comprised of advertisements. The few articles they have are written sideways across the page. The writers have totally neglected any form of racing or anything to do with hard riding. I understand that the market is kids from the ages of 10 - 25 but I would think that every once in a while they would run an article on hard riding. I'm sure it would spark more interest in the sport than it has since the early 90's and maybe hard riding could make some kind of a come back. I just can't understand why the articles are written sideways with different font sizes. I guess I'm getting old.
  18. Yeah its 75 degrees here today and no sign of cold weather for a good 2 months. I haven't seen ice since last May.
  19. I was wondering what I must do to post an article to the tech articles page. There seemed to be some talk about how to find the sidecut radius of a snowboard. I wrote two articles on circular and parabolic sidecuts and how to find your snowboards radius of curvature. If there is still interest in this area I will post these two articles. The problem is I have a few hand drawn sketches. How should I go about scanning them in to a file and then sending it to Bomberonline.
  20. I heard from a kid that Killington is still open? He claimed that there is still good snow up there.
  21. paappraiser, I have owned an E-Deck since 1996. This board is an easy carving board. I ride it with Burton Race Plates. It's name refers to the line of boards associated with softer carving Decks. This board is excellent for people who don't want to have to drive hard turns. Its flex is softer allowing for easier turning in hard conditions. I ride it on ice but don't ride it on softpack. It is a terrible board for soft pack. I was wondering why you are interested in this board??? Not to many people ride them. I have other race boards and only take the E-Deck out on days that I'm just cruising around. I will also drop into the park and ride this board switch. It is a fun all around board.
  22. Allthough this sounds great, especially for me because I have Burton Bindings and boots, I don't believe it. I don't think a company who put alot of time and research into alpine equipment and then gave it up would start all over again. I think Burton realized the market was going sour on alpine equipment and solely concentrated on freestyle. Nice April fools joke, allthough it would be nice if it were true.
  23. Shred Groomer is right, I was recently traveling at the speed of light and went to turn my headlights on, Son of a bitch if they didn't shine out of my trunk backwards. My physics professor was right. Nothing can exceed the speed of light. Not that I put Shred on the same level as my old physics prfessor (unless you are a physics professor) but I think he's right.
  24. Yes they do offer mountain biking in the summer. That would probably be the best way to look for stuff on the trails. Good idea!
  25. Barry, Buy a Bass boat and go fishing. In between fishing trips play pick-up games of basketball, jog at nights or in the mornings, and lift weights.
