  1. +1 for the Stainless T-nuts fine thread @ ACE Hardware
  2. I think VSR is an attempt to target a more circular carve when the board is decambered because the geometry changes during the decambering flexing of the board depending on the flex pattern and rider weight. I could be wrong though.
  3. I have these and they work great for my purposes. I've always been told that they are NOT intec compatable. I would like to know if any of the softboot intuition liners would fit them however. These 4 buckles look very nice.
  4. If anyone is on the same po-man budget I am; there is no buying new bindings:
  5. I havn't tried yet, only 2nd year in hardboots for me. I remember some old school videos with Jean Nerva and Peter Bauer on powder in hard boots, at the time thinking, "Wow they're shredding pow on race boards!". You've got me worried, LOL, I was hoping my old Oxygen Krypton boots were soft enough on a 21cm waist would be OK.
  6. Had been trolling fleabay looking for SIS boots & bindings for her and noticed this really nice Oxygen set for Youth size 6. If any of you guys are putting something together for your kid a lot of these step in softies are pretty stiff and handle higher angles well with a light rider. http://cgi.ebay.com/Snowboard-Boots-and-Bindings-made-Oxygen-/250775741876?pt=US_Snowboard_Boots&hash=item3a636625b4
  7. Welcome:) Gnu were good freecarvers for those years. Mild assym offset with low binding angles for SL type freecarving is ok IMO, but that's a can of worms. You started with hardboots? I probably should have, in early 90s I rode my Morrow MP 175 with 35/40 angles, ankle-strap high, full fwd lean and stiffest softies I could find*. I was obsessed with railing it and leaving clean trenches. Why I didn't just do alpine I still don't know. Hope things go well for you and have lots of fun. *Morrow X Boot (the first to allow for medial and lateral flex adjustment).
  8. I can live with this for now, my front boot is frozen with adequate fwd lean and the rear partially adjustable but I have to force the dial with a flat blade to turn it.
  9. Wow Al, makes my LCL strain look like absolutely nothing. Will you be going through airport security anytime soon? I've been using a TENS unit on the LCL area to promote scar tissue growth & doing stretches etc. I should be able to ride a few more times before season's end.
  10. Hi guys, My boots are old Oxy Kryptons like the pic in this older thread http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=12387 The lean adjustment dials on the rear are frozen and one is clicky when flexed heelside. Not sure how to get into the mechanism. The liner tongues like to migrate off center. If anyone has experience with these or has mod tips for them I would appreciate it. Thanks.
  11. I agree, that's too bad with the video, doesn't make the board appealing. I know Japan is putting out far better alpine boards right now than this. I understand that Japanese hard booters are more prevalent.
  12. OK so just saw this obscure Japanese board and found it interesting because of the V-tail and looks to be made in the last 6 years or so. Has a weird quadratic sidecut with very large radius at the ends. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.specialsnowboard.com/board.htm&ei=CNhUTcO1FJO2sAO8xp3dBQ&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCwQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dojk%2Bsnowboards%26hl%3Den%26lr%3Dlang_ja%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3D727%26rls%3Dcom.pclinuxos:en-US:unofficial%26tbs%3Dlr:lang_1ja%26prmd%3Divns
  13. Unicant The "Universal cant" or the "Unicant" (Burton has used both names to describe the same thing) is a set of two stacked disk shims that allow you to dial in a cant/lift angle from 0º to 8º in 1º increments. Unlike the Bomber TD1 cant/lift disks, you can rotate the position of the Unicant on the board in 15° increments to achieve various combinations of cant and lift. The Unicant can be used with many types of bindings and fits both the 3D hole pattern and the 4x4 hole pattern. Unfortunately, the Unicant has a few "issues": <table width="774" border="1"><tbody><tr> <td width="764"><center> </center> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> With a diameter of 19 cm, it adds to the footprint of the binding, distorts the flex pattern of the board, and creates dead spots. The Unicants also have about 1º of rotational play, which is really annoying. The bolts that hold the Unicant to the board (hidden under the binding) tended to come loose. The Unicants tended to break easily, and that's probably why they were discontinued. </td></tr></tbody></table>
  14. Anyone know about "Special Snowboards" in Japan? I saw a yellow 164cm for sale but can't find any info. Thanks:)
  15. I'm using bombers on a late 90s model alpine that I had to countersink stainless T-nuts into. At 190 lbs and trying to break it but just can't do it ;)
  16. Thanks, I'd like to get a little more in before season ends. I blame some of it on my lack of working out lately, stretching, warming up, etc. I've been neglectful lately. This has always been a bit of an issue for an old meniscus repair of mine, probably need more work done. Just fine when boarding but soon as that back foot comes out for lift lines and peddling its seriously vulnerable :-/ Probly could never be a skiier.........oh darn!
  17. Don't carve skiis leave trenches too?
  18. Was at Blue Wood ski, Dayton WA today. 4" of fresh on top of the ice from previous rains they got. Pow was pushed into piles with ice inbetween. Hit a bad spot of that and chattered out something fierce. I'm wondering if I could have strained calf muscle or achilles tendon. Very painful on heelsides afterwards had to give up and attend to my kids over on the bunny hill anyway. Don't ever remember getting injured just from chattering out on bad terrain but I'm new to hardboots/alpine. :-/
  19. I love this thread !!!!!!!! From a liftie: "Is that one of those snurfers?" If it was I wonder if he would've let me on with it.:p
  20. The question was mostly sincere w/o a point. You guys would know better than It as I'm honestly not on the snow much these days. Just wondering how many weekenders/holiday riders these days are actually using that big kick tail, soft flex, wide stance, etc. Not that I have an agenda to change these people, just idle chit chat on my part.
  21. What percent of the total daily recreational snowboarders on any given mountain are in the H pipe or on the BX course or sliding rails in the park? Mom, Dad and the kids are usually trying to carve down the groomed trails on the freestyle set up that the industry lays out before them.
