Rode one just like that at the 1st MCC. It handled the super soft, bottomless groom better than any board I had with me. Told Mark I wanted one a little wider and longer, and now I have a TankerSpanker on the way.

I'm not sure Mark really believes me but the T.S. is a game changer.  The last day of MCC I was at Anthony Lakes, 24" of new with a sleet/crust layer on top. I was getting freshies into the afternoon because nobody would go into the flatter areas for fear of sinking. I never sunk.

Tuesday, January 25.  Sunny weather continues with some thaw-freeze.  I went up at noon hoping for softer snow but there are many areas of icy skitch all over.  No new snow is in the forecast until Sunday maybe.  I won't be going up any more until the weather pattern changes and we get a refresh.

You could try Hoodoo while you wait it out.  Lower elevation, warmer temps.

As someone who plays with hardboots but is primarly a softboot rider the transition is a fairly easy one especially if you already ride in directional or my case semi directional stance. Hardest part for me is to try not to pedal and bend the board to my will🤣 instead just relax and enjoy the ride😄

When I was instructing (on hard boots), I offered to set up quite a few other snowboard coaches on a carving set up.  The main hesitation that I heard wasn't the boots it was facing both feet toward the tip of the board.  Scaredy cats.

  4. Park at the base of Skyliner.  There are some good, but short runs on the Sunrise chair.  I like to hit those until about 10am when ski school starts.  Then you can work your way across to Skyliner and Pine Marten.  The runs tend to get steeper as you move across.  People used to laugh at me, but the beginner lift near the main base area is good from 12-12:45 (between lessons), it's short but often the grooming does not get chewed up.  There are very few consistent groomers on Northwest or Cloudchaser.  If Summit is open, there are a couple of steeper groomers to choose from.  If the chair seems lumpy, someone has probably stuffed a crushed PBR under the padding.

  5. $300 + Shipping to U.S. (I don't take PayPal, Venmo or checks accepted)

    Built 2014, last ridden 2017.

    173cm

    19cm waist

    Built for 180-190 lb. rider

I asked Sean to build a Proteus with a more forgiving shape so it could be ridden off piste if needed.  He added a rounder nose and tail, which increased the stock 170cm to 173cm.

    Edges are 9/10.

Base is 8/10 due to some light surface scratches.  Not deep enough to hold P-tex, I tried.  A base grind would bring it to a 9/10.

  6. I got to ride the new version of the X Model last weekend.  It's been a few years since I rode the original version, so the only difference that I could tell was in the appearance, but I'm sure Mark has done more than this to improve the ride.  In my review of the TS 202 I stated that if I was going on a trip and didn't know what the conditions would be and I could only take one of my boards it would be the TS.  That is still true, because I don't own the X Model.  The X has the same overall shape as the TS and approximately the same waist (22 cm-ish),  but is stiffer in the tip and tail.  I would feel comfortable taking this board in the trees, powder, bumps or groomers.  Mark calls it "Any Mountain" rather than "All Mountain" which is accurate.  There is enough tail rise to ride switch and enough nose rise to take it through the deep.  It's surprisingly quick edge to edge and will rail like any Thirst board I've ridden.  It was really fun and I wish that I never rode it.

Totally agree with you jburk.  Staff at Meadows has been beyond pleasant and laudatory this year.  Some have tried to explain what I was riding to other chairs full of people— and actually got the history more or less correct!  I even had one lift operator  ask a skier to stop skiing over my board . . . AND he called it a board and not a monoski!

    Maybe it’s the COVID . . .

I did have to correct a ski patrol at Meadows this year when he pointed out to the person behind me that I was on an old school board with ski boots.  If it was just a random I probably wouldn't have said anything.
