How would you expect these boards to compare?

That would depend on which combination of hallucinogens you took.

My reason for bringing this up is I have a 2018 Coiler 163 SL, custom built for my weight, and an old (1995 to 2000ish best guess) Rossi 163 Slayer that I bought on Ebay for $29 and I don't notice a lot of, or any difference, in the way they ride. I like them both very much for their turnyiness. This is probably due to my lack of carving experience.

You have taken the right combination.

How's the situation on Mt.Hood? I haven't gotten in much of a season this year and was thinking of dropping by for some Meadows or Tline action. Any thoughts/recommendations? Probably in the next several weeks. I'll probably be bringing some friends from work.

Good coverage.  Meadows closes in two weeks.  Which leaves Timberline or Bachelor in May.

Will there be an opportunity to demo any Thirst boards on Wednesday?

Yes, I think Mark is sending some and then bringing some when he comes down as well.  The parking lot is a pretty good walk from the lifts, so getting the demo set up the day before you want to ride might be easier.  Text me when you get into town and we'll figure something out.

Planning to ride all days except Friday, up until about 1pm when I need to head down into town to tend to the salt mines.    I've got a few "try before you buy" boards for sale:

Coiler SL 161, regular asym on the z-axis, $375 - really fun board if you've got the legs and lungs

Coiler softie 168, 11.5ish sidecut, seen better days, $125 - great rock board

If anyone needs Track 700's in a size 25 MP I can also hook you up.

Yay.  Looking forward to it Mike.  I also invited Rick from Silipint.

Hi there, I live in Portland and would love to drive down for a couple of days. I am a total newbie on the hard boots, other than a two hour lesson a few weeks ago. That being said I have zero equipment other than my soft boot setup. Any chance there would be a way to rent/borrow some 26.5 boots, bindings and board?????

I have a pair of Deeluxe Spa in a 27 that have about 4 days on them.  They were marketed as a women's boot, I believe the shell is just slightly shorter than the standard.  They seem plenty stiff.   I would sell for $100 if you want.  I can bring them to Bend and you can try them to see if they fit, or you can pick them up in West Linn before the trip.  I'll have an extra set of bindings (not for sale) and between Dane and myself, we should have enough boards for you to ride.  PM me.

Hey Keenan - are you still planning a Bachelor session this year?

Yeah, it's actually posted in the main forum.  The moderators never moved the ATC 2018 thread so I just posted there instead of the ride board.  4/3-4/7 and we'll have some demos.  Let me know and I can maybe bring one by the day before you want to ride it.

There will be 2 N. Idaho carvers on your mountain tomorrow. Hopefully we won't get caught up in any of that legal drug usage you have in your state

They are calling for rain and snow tonight and tomorrow, turning to 3-5" on Friday.  There is a dispensary down the road in Rhododendron, but you need an Oregon or Washington license.  They know better that to trust inland people.

  7. I just confirmed, once you buy your spring pass take the confirmation number and your ID inside the guest services building in the main parking lot.  They will take your picture and print your pass.  After that, maybe the rest of the days, the easiest access to the lift is to park in the Skyliner lot.  There are no services/bathrooms there but you can get to the lift and back to your car a lot quicker.

Me to a woman staring at her cell phone in the middle of a busy run " Not a Good place to be talking on your phone" her response to me "I'm looking at a video of my son so SHUT THE HELL UP !"  For a person to be that angry that fast i'm thinking her sons sperm donor is probably  her major  problem (domestic issues at home).

I don't know why I didn't think about this earlier but I'm going to start carrying an airhorn for occasions such as this.  Maybe it would help with the people who get off the chair and stand in front of the "Clear Unload Area" sign as well.  Oh, and the bro brah's standing in line on the tail of my board.  I'm not kidding, I'll really do it.

didn't like me loading up the nose to tighten a turn. It didn't fold or anything, but it just plowed a wide path without tightening the turn much.

    Corey,

You are trying too hard.  No need to load the nose due to the construction of these boards.  Just unweight more between the turns and bend it more right in the middle to tighten up the turns.  There seems to be less need for for/aft shifting on the Thirst boards.  It took me a little while to get used to them.  But now, me love them long time.

So I was not riding great - the mountain had melted and refrozen overnight and there were lots of death cookies on top of the groom - but the on-slope photographer saw the hardboots when I passed by as he was setting up and thought I could put on a show. He waved at me to come around again and I did -- he picked one of the results as the headline photo for his gallery for the day -- immortalizing my meh riding. Oh well, maybe I'll have better luck next time.

I rode with him (Grant) a couple of years ago.  He was railing turns on some slalom skis and then switched to an older carving board and was railing just as hard on that.

Where are folks staying? Want to rent a house or try to all stay @ the same hotel?

There are some really good VRBO deals that week.  I just did a search and found a 4 bed home with hot tub, gas grille, bikes, passes to the pool/rec center and a canoe in Sunriver for $160 a night.  I found a nicer place without the bikes and grille for $132.  Pretty sure that might be a little cheaper than Aspen.

Check the link to one of my favorite places in Bend, classic arcade games, pinball, beer, $5 per hour or $10 unlimited play.

Oh and there is no sales tax in Oregon.

Nice! I'm locked in for Tuesday - got dog care lined up and moved my dentist appointment, so now I _have_ to go. Have not had nearly as many days on snow this season as I would like, but hoping to make up for lost time. Probably won't get up there until after 8:30 though, so I'll look for you on the hill in the regular spots. I'll have my phone with me.

I'm actually meeting someone at Meadows around 10 tomorrow who wants some instruction.  So I guess I'll see you there.

    I am a deal chaser aka el-cheap-O

Looking for tip/trick on transportation, lodging, lift ticket, food(pb&j)

    transportation:

Seem it's more economical to fly to PDX instead of RDM.

    Bus/Shuttle to Bend:  http://cobreeze.com/

    lodging:

There are mentioned of cheap lodging Sunriver.  Anyone want to do house share?

I am pretty quiet: Goes to sleep early, wake up early, carve and go sit in front of computer, sleep and repeat lol...

Lift ticket:  This is a steal -- $199 hence the meet up is from 4/3/2018  It all make sense now...

    https://www.mtbachelor.com/info/springtacular/

any recommendation on Food/Grocery store/renting car or not?

I didn't realize that the spring passes start that week, what a deal.  So if you buy the pass and ride all 5 days that comes to $40 a day.

If you stay in Sunriver, you will want a car to get to the grocery store and the mountain (20 minute drive).

If you stay in Bend there is a shuttle for 9$ a day.  I will be driving and can give a ride to up to two people as well.

I don't know where I'm staying yet, but I know since it is the week after spring break prices drop dramatically.

If you have lunch at the mountain, you can walk across the main lot to the Nordic center.  They have much better food and prices than the Alpine lodges.

Bring a board lock, it's not Idaho.

Oh, and the base is up to 104" now.

We left Portland at 6 a.m. and traffic was not a problem; we pulled into HRM around 7:45. We headed down the hill around 2 p.m. and hit some very slow traffic but were ahead of the worst crappy driving and the semi that apparently blocked both lanes at some point behind us. Saw a pickup truck with Texas plates in a snow bank on the way down and smirked in a way that I have to admit wasn't very friendly. Very slick conditions for driving and lots of people were having trouble.

I went Friday, left at 12:15, semi tipped over blocking both lanes, as I was waiting for it to clear there were multiple wrecks on both sides of the semi.  It took me 4 hours to get home, it's usually a 1.5 hour drive.  Roads were shiny and people were driving like fools.  Going Hood River adds 45 miles to the drive for me.  I am trying to convince myself that old snow is better.
