  1. K...... I realise this may not be the best forum for this question, but I've quickly come to respect the level of expertise found here. I'm something of an Arbor junkie, and I'm considering adding a A-frame to the recently thinned quiver. What can I say? The board itself is just flat stunning, but I've recieved mixed reports on how it rides, no matter how it looks if it doesn't ride well its junk in my book. I have a very hard time imagining Arbor making anything that doesn't ride like a dream, but hey it could happen. Also, does anyone know if Arbor has ever made an alpine board? Or if they have any plans to do so?
  2. Wow, good question. I was wondering the same thing but as of yet am so ignorant about the whole deal I didn't even know what to ask or how to ask it. I love this place!
  3. I'll grant you it is absolutely a horrifically tragic event for his wife and kids. I would not wish the loss of a parent on a child, nor the loss of a child on a parent. Both are one of the more viscious things one could endure while on this rock. I DO however maintain it is not something for the entire world to view in full colour. I DO detest the media circus that occurs everytime the vultures smell a "story" upon which they can inflict their clever camera angles and catchy phrases. I DO maintain that the wife is the hero, not the individual who made a conscious decision to ignore local advice and venture into the mountains woefully unprepared thus placing his family in danger. I DO maintain that it is no one else's fault other than his own,. I AM sick and tired of people not taking responsability for their own lives/decisions. I AM offended by the label on my stove that reads "Caution: Surface will be hot when in use". Sorry kiddies but life RARELY has a happy ending, 90 percent of all of us WILL DIE a undignified gnawing death. If your REALLY lucky you will exit this world via a massive cardiac event secondary to being astride twin red-headed prostitutes at the age of 103. As for the "country boy" in D.C. Sorry amigo, he deserves what he gets. I was born in pigtown and thank the good lord every day I was transplanted before it could take effect. I AM sorry if you or any one else is offended by anything I wrote here, all I can do is point to the warning at the top of the thread.
  4. There was only one person whom I've ever heard of who lived a perfect life, and we killed him for it. Who knows why she did what she did, perhaps she was just a jubilant kid who was by-the-gods in the gold medal slot in the Olympics and was all giddy about it. Was it silly? Sure. She's paid an exorbitant price for it, she's square with the house, leave her alone.
  5. It sounds kinda crazy, but my thought process has never been accused of being anything close to "normal". Have you tried stuffing several of the disposable hand warmers in them before you head out? It might heat them up enough? Dunno, it was just a thought.
  6. OK, I'm an admitted cynic. So if any of you are overly sensitive or believe ANYTHING the general media puts out, then do both of us a favor and don't read any further. You've been warned. A little background: I've been heavily involved in Emergency Services(specifically the Fire Service and EMS) for a over a decade now, as well as search and rescue teams. I'm also very much an outdoorsman so for once I actually know what I'm talking about. I also have lived in the State of Oregon for 27 years, much of it spent on back roads. The topic in question is this Kim family debacle in southern Oregon. The Media has labeled this imbecile as a "hero", and called his little trek a "superhuman" effort. What they are forgetting to mention is that the last known stop prior to the entire mess, a small store, the store owner told him YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT, DO NOT TRY THAT ROAD. I can say that I've always put alot of stock in the saying, infact use it all the time myself. "you've been told, do what you want". They talk about him getting stuck in the snow, for most of rural Oregon what he did is a typical weekend in the winter. Its what we do for FUN. Cruise upto the mountains, get stuck, build a fire, drink beer, the kids ride sleds/4-wheelers/snowmobiles etc. then simply put the rig in REVERSE and go home. They've tried to blame BLM for leaving the gate open, now they are even trying to blame the ducks game and the 911 center. Dammit all but you can't cure stupidity, the sad thing is the majority of people who go and do something incredibly STUPID, always try and blame somebody else for it. They talk about him removing the tires from the car to start a fire. If he could jack the car up to remove the tires, why didn't he put something under the tires to gain traction and drive away???? Hello, if you know nothing about winter/offroad driving don't take your whole bleeding family with you on a trip you don't understand in conditions you clearly don't comprehend. In law enforcement they have a term for this... Felony Stupidity. He put his family in jeoporady for no good reason, unless(this is my cynical side) that was his intent all along, and the kharmic powers that be saw fit to turn the tables on him. Forgive me but the fool had already reproduced, so its too late to call it cleansing of the gene pool. If you want to call someone a hero, its his wife. This woman kept her wits about her and kept her kids alive in a situation that was quite obviously above her capabilties. Now that is a hero. I get so sick of all the labels and whatnot on machinery, appliances, firearms etc. warning people that if your a dumbass, don't use this. If your a dumbass and fail to use even rudimentry common sense, you get what you deserve. Bleh, I've got to go to a meeting. Its' my vent for the evening.
  7. Sounds like a rough trail you've been on as of late! If my own experience may be of any use to you..... 1) If something doesn't have a very real potential to cause you pain you don't love it, if you don't love it then whats the point? 2) Once you discover that your starting to "break" more often than "bounce", re-evaluate what your doing and why you are doing it. 3) Upon said re-evaluation try a different perspective. There are usually many overlooked facets to something that can bring equal or greater pleasure than what you were doing before. 4) Give yourself a chance to adjust. Just because what you think you should feel or what you think should happen doesn't occur RIGHT NOW doesn't mean that it won't, shouldn't or couldn't. Best Wishes!
  8. I'll keep this as brief as possible: 1) Your co-worker is a complete imbecile. 2) Teabag the dolt and see if his/her "definition" undergoes a sudden alteration.
  9. Sorry for the delay, it was a bloody busy weekend. I'll try to answer most of the questions if my feeble brain will recall them. One, if any of all ya'll know where the pit known as Eugene is, I live rougly an hour south and a touch east of there. Boot size 9. and I've allready done forgot what the second half of that question was, forgive me, only had a few hours sleep in the last several days. My usual haunt is sadly willamette pass, but its a easy day trip so.....as with many things....it is what it is. Thanks once again for the advice, it is a wonderful thing to find a place where the people are passionate about doing something they love. It is as well all to rare. Gee, sometimes I truly am the window cleaner on the short bus, just figured out that I can scroll down and find the other posts in the thread. *sigh* Weight is 165 lbs.....and Snoopy is just about as cool as it gets, though sometimes I feel more like Bob the Cat if any of you remember who that was. In the process of getting one hell of a Snoopy tat, its plain too bad I'm pelted like the proverbial sasquatch, why can't anything be simple?!
  10. Biscuits and gravy with a liberal dose of tobasco, chased down with 4 to 8 ounces of crown royal. THAT my friends is the breakfast of champions.
  11. I'm fairly ecstatic! I've felt for a while now that there was more to boarding than what I've been doing. I've simply never had any interest in park/pike freestyle stuff, and while riding the slopes I just felt that there was a more purfect turn, something with more inate synergy that what I was currently doing. You know that feeling you get when your pressing the envelope and on the verge of a breakthrough? The split second right before the ship hits the sand and you turn into a spinning ball of death and your liver flies out? Its that feeling that keeps me trying, knowing that I'm almost "there". I believe that I've found what that was, and I'm quite giddy about it! As I've poked around, some of you hinted in different articles that its possible to find some success carving on your regular board with hardboots and plates, can someone who has tried this speak up? Would I be much better off simply buying a solid used board? Thanks so much for the advice and support!
  12. Ok all, don't blame me for my curiosity, I was born with it. Let me give a quick nutshell about myself. I skied for just under 20 years and loved it, still would if it wasn't for a slightly malevolent ankle. A buddy of mine suggested I try boarding a few years ago as he thought it was easier on the body, so I did. AND WAS BORN AGAIN!!!! Yeehaw, wot-ho pip pip and all that drivel. Anyway, upshot is I currently ride a arbor crossbow, which has this thing about holding a edge alarmingly well as the more speed is applied(which is just plain cool). This same amigo and I were out fussing around one fine evening when he watched me trying once again to achieve my goal of warp-9, and he said "Dude, you need to check out a race-board, your getting suicidal on that thing." I replied "what pray tell is a race board?" He told me to go to a site called bomber something, that there was people there who know "stuff". So, here I am. I'm looking for suggestions on getting into some basic gear, as I know absolutely NOTHING about what any of you are talking about....hardboots and whatnot........so, take pity on the new guy eh?
  13. Most people would be truly stunned to find out just how many problems arise from dehydration, be it chronic or otherwise. Contrary to poplular belief the evil "hangover" has nothing to do with alcohol other than its diuretic side effect, but is simply dehydration. Cheers!
