  1. If all ya'll can stomach being around a softbooter on a arbor crossbow I'll try my best to keep the time free. I definately fall in the beginner category, but I grin alot! :)
  2. My main standards are: Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever AC/DC - Back in black Alanis Morissette - jagged little pill Though I truly adore U2, lifehouse, three doors down, green day, Dwight Yokum, dire straits, and toooooo many to list. As long as it isn't disco(the darkest time in music history) or rap(which isn't music at all) I'll listen to it.
  3. That was pretty much my thought as well, wasn't sure whether super glue would eat the top sheet or not. Was considering epoxy, or just taking it to the shop and have it mended by someone who actually knows what they are doing
  4. Good friend of mine moved to wausau a pile of years ago, when he married a local girl a couple of us flew back for the occasion. Nicest people I've ever run across anywhere at anytime, I've never eaten so much curds and brats nor drank so much beer the entire rest of my life as I did those 4 days. People had the most pleasant accent as well. But anyhoo... I like it where I live. Drive for an hour and go romp on the coast. Drive for a few hours the other direction and prance in the desert. All manner of mischief to get into. Tons of high lakes, good rivers, spring creeks and whatnot. Best sport climbing(smith rock) in the western hemisphere. Five or six very good options for boarding within 4 hrs, one location where you can ride 11 months out of the year. The downside is the evil influx from CA in the last decade. Housing is ridiculous and overall you make significanlty less money living in this area vs. the same occupation most anywhere else.
  5. Ok, looking for opinions on tip and tail nicks and chips. Had a completely daft bastid smack into the tail of my board last weekend resulting in a fairly impressive dent, roughly the size and shape of the outer 1/4 of a penny. I've heard all manner of rumors concerning delams, top sheet peeling, water in the core and whatnot and to be honest I have no idea which if any are true. Should I have this "hot patched" or some other form of repair? If I should have it repaired is one method better than another? Should I just grin and bear it and not worry about such things? My old board has a myriad of dents, bangs, gouges and whatnot and it seemed to bear them with fair dignity. It is an otherwise flawless board, one which I'm VERY fond of. One more thing, what are the thoughts on those rubber/plastic tip and/or tail protectors? They worth doing or just a faintly hideous waste of time?
  6. Duct tape on the reverse face. let the epoxy flow where it will, its the best way to get a perfect fill. Pile the epoxy on and let it sink into every void it can find, the tape will keep it from running out entirely, you will need to do two or three pours to properly fill all the voids, the end result is well worth the extra effort. Sand or mill the excess off after its cured. If you use a "filler" it will prevent the epoxy from flowing as it was designed to do, while appearing ok on initial inspection, it will eventually fail. Btw, the epoxy won't adhere to the tape. Love the thread and the energy your putting into it. :)
  7. Roughly 99% of the time I "chatter" out is primarily that I have too much weight on my rear foot. Fer what it s worth amigo, I most certaintly am NOT any form of an expert. Hope you have a quick recovery, the season is still young! :)
  8. To quote the immortal Judge Parker "May the good lord have mercy on your soul" :) Was a mod once, wouldn't do it again for anything on this rock. Well, maybe except for a 2004 crossbow 162 still in the plastic.(best graphics of all the crossbows)
  9. It only gets better! I've been trying to get used to being called "sir" for a couple of years now. FFS I'm no where near old enough to be called such a vile thing.(Havn't quite got it through my head that I'm too old to be the child progeny anymore) Remember Sam Elliots line in the movie 'we were soldiers'? "If any of you SOB's calls me Grandpa, I'll kill ya" BTW for the unplanned rapid cessation of forward motion you mentioned, if you should ever find yourself in a similar situation exhale completely before you hit, it will prevent your lungs from quite literally "popping" which is usually the case in a dorsal landing like you describe. If it was in fact your ribs breaking and poking through your airbags this will obviously not help much :)
  10. Dude, revive your old thread, there is too much pointless glurp in this one. I am working HARD(two 12 hr days last weekend, 10 days so far this season) on this for the simple reason that I have no choice in the matter. I've a left ankle that is mostly hashbrowns and old razor blades, and a right knee with nothing but sand and gravel in it. I HAVE to ride duck foot or not ride at all. I've found that riding seriously weight forward(front foot) when beginning the heel side turn and transitioning into the dreaded passing a pine cone stance after the nose is good and dug in works passing well, but I skid out alot If I don't cantilever the carving edge perfectly, and I just can't figure what it is that I'm doing differently to the board vs. the toeside. Maybe its the board itself, I simply don't know, I'm seriously considering purchasing a all-mountain carver to see if it helps. I'm currently using Vans BFB with Drake matrix bindings. The Vans are THE most comfortable thing I've ever worn. In any kind of hard boot after 30 mins on the mountain it feels like someone is injecting boiling acid into my ankle. I don't pretend to be knowledgable about carving or snowboarding, or much of anything else for that matter, so if any of you feel like bashing me for the way I ride or not knowing the proper terminology or jargon, save your time. I simply don't care. As far as this thread goes, who gives a good damn what you ride or how you ride it, just as long as you ride. Though I imagine that all of us most likely have at least one thing in common, a skidded turn just flat pisses me off.
  11. Skier killed in apparent collision with snowboarder on Mount Hood By The Associated Press <!-- start photo --><!-- end photo --> PORTLAND, Ore. – A skier was killed Friday on Mount Hood in an apparent collision with a snowboarder, authorities said. Geoffry Scott Bradeen, 45, was discovered lying in the snow by passing skiers and snowboarders at about 9:45 a.m. near the top of the North Canyon run at the Mt. Hood Meadows ski resort, according to Deputy Matt English of the Hood River County sheriff's office. Another skier called 911, and dispatchers notified the Mt. Hood Meadows ski patrol office. English said it appeared that Bradeen may have fallen and was hit by a snowboarder as he attempted to get up. Witnesses said an unidentified snowboarder at the scene told the others that he was going for help, and left the area. English said it was possible the snowboarder might have been scared off when he returned and found sheriff's deputies at the scene. "At this point, we don't believe there was anything criminal," English said. "There are no known witnesses to the actual collision, but we are interested in obtaining a statement from the unidentified snowboarder that left the scene." Bradeen suffered head injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the resort's medical clinic by an assistant Hood River County medical examiner, who happened to be skiing Friday. Bradeen was not wearing a helmet. It was not known if Bradeen had gone to the mountain with family or friends, or was skiing alone. Dave Riley, general manager for the resort, said two people died in skiing accidents during the 2005 season. None died last year, he said. "Anytime something like this happens, it's a tragedy," Riley said. "Our hearts go out to the man's family." Can't even imagine this boarders reality. How do you sleep with that?
  12. For vehicle's under 10,000 GVW on paved roads(regardless of whether or not they have packed snow/ice on them) chains are a waste of time. I know nothing of rubber chains, as I have yet to use tire chains on a paved surface EVER, nor will I. When I do use chains nothing less than REAL CHAINS will suffice, these cable/mini-chain cute thingymabobs are only good for breaking and whipping hell out of your fenders. Studs work fine until you spin the tires ONCE. If you have the ability/control to not spin your tires EVER they will work fine. One of the dumbest things I've ever heard is to run studs in conjunction with chains, the chains compeltely negate the studs. If you run the studs on bare pavement even infrequently you will destroy the studs in short order, thus rendering them useless. The number one rule of driving on snow/ice conditions: If you break the vehicle loose, you're going for a ride in whatever direction momentum and gravity take you. REGARDLESS of chains/studs/traction tires/bellowing prayers/clawing wife/howling dog/ etc... The best advice I can give you is to maintain a steady constant speed, and no matter what you do, do it calmly(which can be hard) in a steady even manner. Whether its acceleration, braking, turning, whichever. ANY sudden change in the vehicle's stable direction of travel is NOT A GOOD THING. First time out maintain a speed between 25-35 m.ph. give yourself plenty of room between your vehicle and the one in front of you. Be AWARE of oncoming traffic(you just never know what the fool in the other lane may be upto). If you get a pile-up of traffic behind you have the decency to use a pull-out and allow them to pass you. Going too SLOW is AS dangerous as going to FAST, the banking in the road can toss you in the snow bank as quickly as excessive speed. If worse comes to worse, take the snowbank vs. going headlight to headlight. Remember the "LAW OF LUGNUTS". Whomever has more wins, period. Best of luck. p.s. Take plenty of sushi. Well, I love the stuff anyway.
  13. Dude, I just shot hot tea out both nostirls.........for the luv can you say stuff like that in public? With your out loud voice??? Good God, don't think I've laughed that hard since a girl named "sky" (not making it up, her brothers middle name is "earth") endo'd into three feet of fresh powder.
  14. Kind of posting blind here, as I don't know much about alpine boards(yet). The info isn't all that great either. Hope it helps! http://cgi.ebay.com/NIDECKER-RAVE-SNOWBOARD-w-bindings-alpine-race_W0QQitemZ140068525560QQihZ004QQcategoryZ36297QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  15. Wonderful use of the word vituperative! I was a English Lit major once upon a time, before life got in the way. I have a tendency to appreciate things that most do not, forgive me, I was born odd and its only gotten worse. Amigo I don't know you, most likely never will, but I full on adore that. Cheers all...
  16. Hey all and happy new year!! If it makes any difference to any of you to hear what a new person to the forums thinks..... I was drawn like the proverbial moth to the flame to this site for a couple of very simple reasons. The obvious depth of knowledge amongst the people here, and what I believed and STILL believe to be the genuinely friendly nature and willingness to help out a completely ignorant dolt(that would be me) discover a new passion. I have always felt that there is nothing wrong with having a strong opinion about something, nor with two or more people disagreeing about a subject, as long as mutual respect is maintained. Best Wishes!
  17. Ok, as the F2 website mumbles something about bomber being a rep or dealer for F2, perhaps one of all ya'll will know something about this. I see that F2 makes a 176cm freeride board called the respect. Can anyone tell me more about their freeride/freestyle boards? Are they any good?
  18. Thats me nuffin but sunshine and light! As far as PT goes, a little pain is good, its supposed to hurt thats why they call it pain therapy...ermmm I mean physical therapy. HOWEVER, listen to what your body is trying to tell you, if it feels like somebody is pouring white hot molten metal inside your knee, lighten up a bit. It is very possible to do more damage in PT than good, regardless of what the neanderthal knuckledragger with the whip tells you. My current longest stint in PT is 19 months, 4 days a week. It is what it is.
  19. It mainly depends upon your age, extent of injury, physical condition prior to the injury, previous injuries, etc. Had a friend who "relocated" her patella roughly 18 inches north of where it was originally intended to reside. She was young at the time, I think 20ish, and was extremely physically fit. She still climbs and whatnot, but her boarding career was sorry to say it.....over. If my own many varied injuries are any example, nothing is ever the same again, whether or not you "fully" recover is largely upto your definition of an acceptable pain level. Best of luck!
  20. Was up yesterday, day started grim, it was raining which is never good. But it got colder and started snowing in earnest. Was cruising down on almost perfect powder, big grin, all is well. I'd just switched to my toeside and found a BIG chunk of ice, never saw it coming it was snowing too hard. Did a perfect lawn dart, freaking board hit me in the back of the head I crunched so hard, my buddy gave me a 8/10. Bloody snoot, put three teeth through my lower lip, and have something of a concusion. *sigh* Used large handfulls of snow to ice the injury, triple crown on the rocks to soothe the ego, and stayed on the hill for three more hours.
  21. Its that wonderful time of year, when traffic is horrid, crowds are impossible, and to make it even worse the in-laws show up and won't go away. Here's a vid that may lighten your thoughts, on what you'd LIKE to do, but hopefully restrain yourself from. I don't know exactly why this amuses me so much, maybe because I grew up on a ranch. But this is no range animal, he's pure rodeo stock and slightly pissed about the whole deal. http://www.taser.com/law/video/wmv/bull.wmv
  22. I was a catcher for 14 years, minor knee strains are something of a specialty of mine. Provided its not torn it should heal fine PROVIDED you don't further injure it. Initially your doing good with the ice, take ibuprofen if your stomach can handle it. I DID NOT tell you this, but you can take upto 2400 mg's per day for upto a week, WITH a doc's order, use your discretion. Keep it elevated as much as possible it will help with fluid buildup. If your pain lvl is still 2/10 tomorrow its highly unlikely you seriously injured it, but its still prudent to take all possible precautions and use it as little as possible for the first few days after the injury. These first few days are the critical ones in minor injuries, as many try to iron man it and just cause further damage. Don't forget to heat it with whatever you have if your going to be on it, I full on love the clay wraps that are availible now, they have an almost perfect theraputic heat exchange. Of course...if the pain persists or gets worse seek definitive medical care. Best wishes
  23. I weigh around 165 lbs, think the 165cm model would work for someone my size? I'd cheerefully scour the globe for one. Its sad, but I literally day dream about buying more Arbor boards.
  24. Why does trump repeat himself CONSTANTLY?!! Good gravy its annoying.
