  1. Hi Fastskiguy / others who have tried the Eliminator fan module:

Does the fan module really work? Does it really "eliminate" the fog?

    http://www.habervision.com/product/Ouzo%20Eliminator.aspx

Thinking about getting one but want to get some comments here before I do so.

I ended up getting a defective unit and sent it back. I asked for a refund but I don't know exactly how that will work out. I think I am going to go with the disposable contacts and regular goggles for next year. Under 2$ per day once you get a supply, that's such a tiny amount compared to the total cost of a day of snowboarding I figure seeing and not fogging is worth it.

We had a day with a high of 12 below zero this year, my rx adaptors immediately iced up and were opaque. I popped out the Rx portion and used the goggles like "regular goggles" and didn't have ANY fogging problems! And this was with a full face mask with no exposed skin or anything. That experience got me thinking about the disposable contacts.

Sorry I can't be more help :( but good luck :)

  2. Fin, how the heck do you still have biker's tan in the middle of winter?? Hell, I live in sunny SoCal and my biker's tan has long since disappeared. Do you hit the tanning booths with a jersey on??

Maybe he goes to the southern hemisphere to check on the TD3 production?

  3. Things that we do that we shouldn't do LOL

a stiffen up so your body is rigid

b lean back over your back food

c reach for the snow by bending at the waist

d don't complete the turns all of the way

e keep your edges a little dull

f move into the turn nice and slowly

  4. One thing I also think is important is binding angles. When I rode hard boots I had 63 front 66 back. I think the steeper the angles the more it allows your hips to get involved with the turn. The closer your hips get to the snow the greater the board/snow angle can occur. As written in one of the tech articles this allows for a tighter turn, a little more speed within that turn and greater pressure exerted on the edge provided your upper body is in correct position.

Gotta agree, especially for toesides, steeper boot angles let you get your hip more inside.

  5. I healed a single break in 5 weeks, in fact I have got bone breaks in general down to 5.

There are just so many comments and questions that a statement like this elicits....I'll just go with "May the force be with you" :)

  6. Oh god, the downhill ski flapping, tail loading, over rotated, acl snapping abomination! I just about lost my lunch! You can't just be throwing links like this up, people could be emotionally damaged by watching stuff like this. Children might be watching for cripes sake! I'm going to have to take a shower now.

ehem....Respectfully, I stand by my previous statement.

    With EC

EC is exclusive to alpine snowboards, can't do it on skis!

    haha nope.

this cat does it quite well.
  7. Free to a good home! Nobody has bought these things and they can't just sit here on the table forever so I'm gonna give'em away. Yeah, that's right, for FREE! You've gotta pay the shipping but that's it. You tell me you want'em, I ship'em from my close-to-work UPS store, send you a picture of the receipt, then you send me the $$$ via paypal.

  8. With EC turns you are really shaping the top of the turn and moving some of the pressure from the bottom...where it loads up like crazy...to the top. So that is really cool.

EC is exclusive to alpine snowboards, can't do it on skis!

Gotta watch it, getting into the "hands down, butt up" position must be avoided at all costs!

  9. Do you use any other raysway tools for tuning?

    :biggthump

I use the side edge tool. It's great if you're into polishing your edges every time you go. It doesn't take much material off per swipe...don't even THINK about changing your side edge angle with it, it'll take at least 1250 years of hard rubbing (ie don't use it to switch from a 90 to an 88 or anything). It leaves the edge really smooth. It uses little strips of abrasive material like sandpaper and includes directions to make more-they're super duper cheap and easy to make. It has a bit of a homemade appearance, doesn't look as fancy as some of the milled machined tools. I've used it for 2 years and have only used a file for setting the edge angle.

As far as the wax whizzard, I love it but the renew zoom wax is intriguing...

Hey what is the deal with citrus wax remover, is it bad for my base or OK?

  10. I don't think so, your helmet cracking is not going to lessen any impact. It's not like a car with crumple zones. The last thing you want your helmet to do is crack.

OK, so the hard shell part cracked....I didn't see that in the picture. But the foam part...it's supposed to break up when you hit something hard, the energy goes into breaking the helmet instead of your head. Isn't this right? Or am I way off here?

  11. Is this some new policy when traveling with boards? I've never had to pay anything to bring mine on a trip with me, but the last time I flew with a board was march of last year. It is only if its over 50 lbs, or is it some new rip-off the airport is doing?

United is 15$ for your first bag, 25$ for your second, each way. Plus extra for > 50#, not sure how much but a lot. So now you're nickel-and-dimed plus you can be assured people are cramming the largest carry-on's imaginable in the overhead bins and there will be no room for your stuff. Oh yeah, and getting on and off the plane takes longer because of all of the carryon luggage. Did I mention I just flew home on United on Sunday?

  12. Just try to skid a bit on a board with no base bevel then put a 1 degree bevel on it an you'll see a huge difference. Yeah, 1 degree, not that much, only on the edge, a few mm wide, can't matter, right? Well...it does when you pivot the board. Makes no difference in a carved turn, can't tell'em apart. Kinda funny that way.

And for sharpness, well, that's important too.

  13. Vids won't load for me.

Joe, I would rather rip a couple of runs with JG than do anything else.

I'm sure he rides well and has helped some bombers out, Tpalka among them or shot vid with. And Tom's videos rock, so I am gonna try to take the high road here.

JG, how about getting those done for SES?

I heard from him and was assured of a video by SES. Although I'm always up for a well-deserved beat down, I won't be able to make SES so I'll need to rely on you (?) if any "negotiations" are needed during said event :)

Hey BTW I was in Sun Valley last week and I, a master of our local 330 foot hill, counted how many times I had to stop coming down Warm Springs. Yeah, I stopped 10 times LOL :) The Warm Springs Lift should be a religious site for our discipline.

  14. Yeah, I basically had been working on a 2-3 year long project from hell; terrible hours, super stressful, etc., and took a month off when it was over and went riding :) Maybe that's why I was able to ride that many days in a row, hard, from open to close: I was fueled by rage :D

OK, I'm gonna state it differently then.....THAT makes the average guy cry! I hope the month of riding helped make up for some of it.

  16. The best I ever did was 9:00-4:00 riding everyday, for 14 days straight, 1 day off (I wasn't tired; it was Saturday of President's Day Weekend or something), then 14 days straight of 9:00-4:00 riding again.

    My main tips are:

    1) try to be as young as you can. That helps a lot.

    2) snowboard a lot. The 3rd-5th days or so are the hard ones. If you can push through those you can ride every day forever.

    3) mix it up with the softboots. 28 days of only carving on groom is really, really boring.

Tip #1 is the best one I think.

28 days with one day off?.....you suck, you realize this don't you? ;)

This is the kind of post that makes the average guy cry LOL!

  17. LOL, this flatlander is in Sun Valley right now, you know, the land of the 3400 foot vertical runs. It's day 4 and today I had to take stop a whopping 10 (ten!) times coming down warm springs in the afternoon. I think I have some necrotic quad muscles. My CPK has got to be thru the roof. My theory is that it's the deep burn that kills you, busting out 300-400 vertical feet then taking a short rest....well, it's my theory for this trip.

  18. LOL, this is funny because I haven't been to a place with a real black run since last season. I've been honing my technique here in the midwest. Got out to Boise last night and managed to get to Bogus Basin. Crowded, quite firm snow (some said ice), and even hit a rock or two. Acing a moderate run is great but there's something about a slope just a little steeper....
