  1. as the title says, would like a TD2 second board kit. Burton or 4 hole OK, 4 hole preferred. Prefer 6 and 3 degree cants, but would consider others. Likewise prefer yellow bumpers, but will consider all. Alternatively, would consider F2, Raichle or similar INTEC compatible bindings. (Basically trying to set up a second board on the cheap)
  2. doncha need a huge beard to ride a 'bent? I've never seen anyone other than aging bearded beerbelly guys on bents.
  3. :D So somebody else can deal with them crying on the edge of the slope! My kids (8 & 11) take instruction much better from their coaches than from me. They won't complain (much) or roll their eyes at their coach. Daddy, a different story. So they ski with the team this year. Daughter (11) is interested in snowboarding, but despite being a gymnast, is a bit of a spaz. Told her she could get a lesson when we go to mammoth this year. Son (8) has no interest in boarding (yet) and don't figure on pushing him. They're both rippin' little skiers, tho. Last Sunday up at Mt. Rose, we were there when they opened the slide side after 6' of snow. For the kids it was literally bottomless. Neither was shredding the pow by any means, but both made it down in conditions that a lot of growups won't ski in. I told them to look around in the lift line. Not a kid in sight. 150 powder hounds, and them, the only kids. It was awesome.
  4. I grew up in LV and have skied / boarded both places. Ski Lee or whatever they are calling it is very very very lame, but has the early 70s feel (and chairlifts) and it's pretty cheap. When all you've got is 3.2 beer, well, you drink 3.2 beer. But I'm pretty sure it's all moot, as I can't recall a single year that the resort stayed open that late in the season. Brianhead is just OK. The terrain there is definitely on the flatter side of steep, but the biggest complaint for a "major" resort (being the closest real resort to Las Vegas) is that they still use fixed grip chairs and I'm pretty sure the longest/most vertical chair (chair 2 on the east side of the resort) is just a triple. The chair ride is 15 minutes or so each time, and if you're cookin' it will take about 2.5 minutes to get back down. That was acceptable in the 80s... but today? That said, Brianhead is the first resort I ever rode a snowboard at (my 86 performer elite 150), in the spring of 88, when they opened up the resort for a special "snowboard contest" weekend. It's a pretty fun place on a powder day because it takes years to track out between the unskilled LV clientelle and the excruciatingly slow chairs. Lots of good stuff in the trees off of chairs 2, 5 and 7. For a while they were also offering cat rides from the top of the resort to the true top of the peak (which is probably at least 1500 vertical above where list service ends). I think it would compare favorably to Boreal. Probably lamer than Homewood or Powder Mountain (utah). No comparison to a real resort.
  5. 20 from Nevada City up to 80 is open all winter. If it's dumping it might be lower priority, but it's open.
  6. thanks kurt, but I cracked and went down to the local snowboard emporium and bought a pair of binders last night. Decided it was worth the extra dough to be able to ride this weekend. mucho Gracias for the quick responses!
  7. Brett the Osin arrived today, packaged like it was right out of the factory, and it looks better than you described it. Great transaction, +1 to your karma account.
  8. I've got a pair of Burton Shadow boots listed in the classifieds that are your size. They're kinda oldschool (90s), but have seen very little use and have a pretty soft flex for a hardboot (still WAY stiffer than the stiffest softie). Size 28; I wear a 10-10.5 wide shoe and they fit me fine. Wouldn't be selling but I stumbled on a too good to be true deal on some different gear. $40 + shipping and they're yours.
  9. Yeah yeah, wrong forum, but I appreciate that grownups post here. Anyhow, I've reviving my softie quiver and need a pair or two of binders. Size should accomodate a 10.5 boot, and given that I weigh 160, shouldn't be brutally stiff. Whatcha got?
  10. one last bump before these go to ebay on 1/4/08.
  11. No, I'm sure I got the 86 and 87 catalogs too. I think the date just reflects when I was added to their mailing list. Or it could mean something else altogether....
  12. nope, sorry. They definitely are NOT intec compatible.
  13. I've got a pair of burtons over in the classifieds....
  14. Is there a market for this? Not that it really qualifies as the provenance that 1stAir has alleged by buying not one but two burton airs from JBC years before it's commercial debut, but I've got in my possession a brand new still sealed in plastic 88 Burton catalog, with the sucker addressed to me at my childhood home. I think that the "10/17/85" probably indicates when I first got on their mailing list. That would've been right about the time that I acquired my 86 Performer Elite 150 (uh, yeah, no air that year). I don't know why I've never ripped it open. I think I got two catalogs that year and I just tossed this one in a drawer. And then some how it got into my "momentos" box, along with adolescent love letters and a stack of job rejection letters that would humble even Abe Lincoln. But I still haven't ripped it open. Dunno why. Is there a market for such a thing? (subliminal hint... buy my boots... buy my boots...)
  15. correct you are, wavechaser. Right below the tongue's 27-28.5, on the lower part of the boot is stamped "28-28.5"
  16. ... a little more info because someone asked... The shells are sized 27-28.5 L.
  17. I bought these used on BOL last season and I've since lucked into a pair of Raichle Naganos (SB225s) locally, so these boots need to go to a new carver. They appear to be from a rental fleet sometime in their past, as they have the size handwritten on the back. However, I suspect that they weren't rented much, because they are in very good shape. $40 plus shipping and they're yours!
  18. Likewise, I've never had a board that was better in the pow than my '86 performer elite 150 (the first year with highbacks! and those stupid snap together buckles!). Or maybe its memory has just evolved over time...
  19. Thanks for the replies everybody. WPF, believe me, it has actually crossed my mind to bring my trainer or rollers with me and to ride 'em in the parking lot while the kids ski. Sad, sad, but I know what you mean about cycling starting to consume your life. It starts slow ("just another hour a day..."), but it does get to a point where the pendulum needs to start shifting back. Thanks everybody for the encouragement. Success stories are inspiring. I'll letcha all know how it goes come racing season in April.
  20. Howdy. Not really sure if this is on or off topic, but here goes.... My love is playing on the snow, and if I could I'd be on the mountain every day in the winter. Unfortunately my life doesn't permit that kind of freedom, so my focus in the past five years has turned toward racing bicycles (road, M35+/Cat 3). Because I can train 90 minutes or so a day on weekdays and a few hours a day on the weekends, it has worked well without wrecking my family life. This year, though, I've signed my kids (age 8 and 11) up for the local ski team, which runs every saturday through ski season. So now I find myself in the position of having a free pass to ski/snowboard every saturday (woo hoo! yeah yeah, it ain't midweek). But for the past three or four winters, Saturday had been my "long ride" day. So now I'm wondering how putting a (relatively, for me) large number of days on the snow is going to adversely impact my cycling fitness. Any carving bike racers out there with some experience?
  21. Anybody tried this board? Local shop has one of last year's for cheap, but I can't find a word written about it on the web except the ad copy. Seems like a viable pow/chop/off piste board but ....
