  1. Hi All, Anyone know where I can get one of these helmets in the US?????? Sweeeeeet! Thanks,
  2. Even with all of my skiing, every time I come off my board to ski, I look at my poles and go, WHat do I do with these again???????? BUT, it never feels weird coming back to the board and NOT having them. It just feels right.
  3. Oh Yeah, I agree, NO RAILS!!!!! You could try to do what Couloir does, just publish during the season. It has worked for them for quite some time (14 yrs)....
  4. No, they do have a climbing bail though, it allows your heal to no have to go all the way back down when climbing, less pain in your calves.
  5. And what a revolution it has been!!!!! Some people think tele is going to go away with the better alpine gear and the MAJOR improvements to AT gear in the last couple of years.... For a while the tele crowd thought it was going to be the next big thing, but that has since faded. My buddy screams down at me off the lift all the time about some drywall screws he has in his truck to fix my bindings. The people on the lift with him laugh.......... I usually think of a funny comeback at the bottom:o.
  6. I was going to post some sarcastic remark about a $100 tune-up........ But I may have to give it a try. You guys think it really makes a difference?
  7. I said MAY be possible......;) Yeah, I really don't remember learning to alpine AT ALL...... Tele I actually teach, but not alpine. I was trying to give a vague answer..... Didn't work so well, huh? I hold strong that I think it would be easier to teach a youngin' on alpine gear. More room for mistakes on your part, easier to control at slow speeds...... etc, etc, etc......
  8. Mike T brings up a good point. With your heals locked, you have ALOT more movement without falling on your face......... Just gives you more freedom to move around on. On teles the weigh distribution is on the balls of your feet, on alpine it is your whole foot. My brother taught my nephew to ski on his board (that sounds funny), it just looked painful. The funny thing is, he is a really good skier.
  9. NO, I don't think it is a BAD decision..... Personally, I would go with alpine to get comfortable first, then go to tele. With this way you have a solid base to start from and go back to if a tele type turn doesn't work, for example if you get in to a crowded area. BUT, I know a couple of people that went straight to teles with no problems. On the alpine side, you don't need to MASTER it, just get comfortable with the parallel turn. May even be possible with just a day of lessons or so. IF you go straight to tele, there are PLENTY of excercises to get you in tune with your boards (kind of like the NORM articles). This is a great site for instructional stuff; http://www.telemarktips.com/ I will be in the same boat as you in 2 yrs or so, my daughter is 9 months old.
  10. Good examples of photo type I woul like are Bike (like Big Canuck said) and Snowboard Journal..... I think they are both top notch.
  11. It's all relative........... If you start early, neither of them are particularly hard, and by the time you are in your 20's they are both second nature, if you haven't gotten board.
  12. Snowboarding....... All of it. I know that's not what you are looking for, but it is what I would like to see. I guess the biggest for me would be board and boot reviews. Good luck and keep us in the loop.
  13. I'd say GO FOR IT!!!! Good fun! I have been skiing since I was 3 ( I am now 34), I now Tele but don't own any fixed heal gear right now. The new skis make it much easier than it was 15 or 20 years ago (maybe that's 20-25 now). I still "borrow" some from the rental shop from time to time but I get bored of them quick (I'm in MN). IF you want to learn to tele, I would say learn parallel first. You can always fall back to what you now from that if you screw up. It is a good base to have and one I am very glad to have.
  14. From what I was told, it may be incorrect, just something to look into. If you send it USPS you may loose tracking once it goes over the boarder...... This was told to me buy a PS worker, it could be incorrect. Just one more thing to check out....... FedEx has tracking all the way through. I did the purolator/DHL thing with Big Canuck and had no problems.
  15. That is a good idea Jack, I can use them in my tele boots if hardboots don't work out.
  16. I feel for ya, mine are really 13's I can usually fit in 12.5's if they have them though.......
  17. They actually two-strap Air bindings, mounted backwards.......
  18. EXCELLENT IDEAS!!!!! Keep em' coming.......... Sorry to dis the 4WD Dave, I'll give it shot......
  19. I guess the main reason I ask is. I ride a freestyle board, Telemark and an alpine setup. THE only setup I am NEVER quite happy with is the alpine setup, all the others I can just go out and ride, I even feel bad when I have to replace stuff. I keep messing with it but never get it right (and I am not that picky), am I just looking for something that is not there to begin with? Maybe I am just stuck in a no snow zone and am pissed about it, I don't know. Maybe I have changed to many diapers today (no, not mine:D)..
  20. Hey, Dave I think my feet are a little to big for the angles I would like to ride...... it's only 1 inch wider waist than my FCII.
  21. Sorry, I little background. I have been riding about 23 years, have had an alpine setup for about 10. Competed in all disciplines for about 7-8 years (had to to get sponsored in MN). My current alpine ride is a Donek 179FCII 05' vintage, Burton reactor boots and Catek World cup bindings........ I am just starting to wonder...... Why bother? I guess if I have to ask I just don't understand, right?
  22. Ok, Seriously, all this talk of stiff gear, board isolation (the plate thing), and riding technique has got me thinking. I am an old freestyle/freerider, I actually carve on my freestyle board (unlike some). On my FS board I ride VERY flexible boots, this leads me to tend to want to ride my hard boots in the walk position and with the cant setting loose. If I stiffen things up I tend not to like it. I only freecarve (no racing anymore) so it is not like I am looking for a race setup. I will be in the market for new gear in the next year, is it just that my boots are old (they are) and the new ones are more "lively" or am I just looking for something else. I like to ride relaxed angles and have 12.5 feet, so no ATV from me...... I am starting to lean toward a nice Donek Sasquach/ Catek freerides and be done with it........ Let the opinions begin!!!!

    Basic setup

Well, I guess it is all there, isn't it, under that "Are you a new carver?". Oh well. I for one, have never seen that. I guess I just didn't look hard enough. I guess I should get out to that main page more. Later.
