Guest Speedy
Just a reminder that we ain't all invincible even with the best boards..... According to Kgw.com, Matthew Daren Kixmiller from Littleton, Colo. died Tuesday about 12:30 p.m. on the Cascade Express area after losing control of his snowboard, said Hood River County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Gary Tiffany. Kixmiller’s death is the first fatality on Mt. Hood Meadows in recent memory, said general manager Dave Riley. Kixmiller was apparently off a groomed run when he lost control, Riley said. The OSU student cartwheeled and hit an exposed log, causing massive chest injuries. Although Kixmiller wasn’t wearing a helmet, he didn’t suffer serious head injuries, Tiffany said. Authorities summoned LifeFlight, but Kixmiller died at the scene. At about the same time rescuers were responding to the Kixmiller accident, they were called to another accident involving a 26-year-old, male snowboarder from out of state. The snowboarder, who hasn’t been identified, was on an expert area of Heather Canyon when he went off a cliff, said Riley, Mt. Hood Meadows general manager. The snowboarder suffered mainly neck injuries, but he should be okay, Riley said.
