Guest Dais
I guess this topic may have been discussed in here before, but I just wanted know how easily is the split tail of those sims burners broken down. I bought 01's 188 in quite decent shape last winter and finally let it touch the snow today, and after having 3 runs I found out that the base of the left tail (where it splits in two) cracked a few inches to the left edge. I cried. I know that what made it happen was because of the falling I had on the 3rd run, but to be honest it was nothing major. And what I see now is the board with the cracked tail... Has anyone ever had same type of experience? Sigh...

willywhit
even worse when you let someone else ride it and THEY bust the tail. No more demos on my Burners , except Gilmour

Chris Houghton
That damage is not repairable. There is tremedous force concentration in this area, so unfortunately once it is damaged it cannot be repaired. The board is now officially a wall ornament. As you said the tail will sure be broken again even if it is repaired. I have seen someone's custom split tail coiler a while ago on the website and as long as I can remember the board had a few metal plates mounted over the tail in order to adjust the flexibility of the area probably not to gain too much pressure in one spot. That was a quite good idea thinking of the construction of the tail. Oh well...
Guest Randy S.
I actually sold my Burner before I had a chance to break it. I was concerned that would happen. Who was it I sold it to? As for breaking a board that you demo, in my book if you break it, you buy it. Either pay what it would be worth in good condition, or replace it (like I did with Mike T's board that I broke). Thankfully when I broke Mike's almost new board, Bruce at Coiler replaced it at cost. Unfortunately Mike had to wait a long time for the replacement. I think the Burner breakage is a design flaw. But that's just my opinion. My breaking Mike's board had nothing to do with bad design or flawed materials. Boards just weren't meant to have a 200lb guy plant them nose first in the snow after dropping 10ft off a cornice. It really was a cartoon-like crash. I can see issues if 1) your launching gaps or kickers and land on the tail, 2) slam on the breaks and hit an icy mogul w/the tail (as in the sad death of willywhit's 167), or 3) haulin' @$$ and end up in the "back seat" to perform an abrupt speed-check. General question: Are the incidents we're hearing about due to mostly crashes and other unusual circumstances or are some of you just railing these things and the tails blow apart (fatigue/wear-n-tear)? Daneille
My husband broke his Burner 188 at the base of the split, just by carving. Daneille
David Glynn
Is it BROKE ??? or is the base just cracked? Does it feel broke? I've got a 197 that I rode so much that I wore the base and edges out with tunes ( it even saw some park time) but the tail is still good with a little crack in the base. And I have a 167 with a lot of riding time and the edges are getting pretty thin due to tuning and the tail feels fine but has significant cracking of the base in the tail split area but you can't tell when riding it. I only weigh 165 lbs. but ride aggresively.

Kirk, I guess this is what happened to my board. I slid down on my @ss in heelside turn and hit a small dump(but not even an icy mogul) on the slope and then knew that the tail was gone. I weigh 165lbs so I don't think it has something to do with the breakage though.

No doubt that your burners are one of hundreds! You gotta well take care of them!
