Stan
It's a good board for someone heavier tan me (I'm only 146 lbs). I have my FP157 and it's kicking my arse ;o). I'd recommend this board to someone heavier than me and who likes a STIFF ride (get your mind out of the gutter NOW - FP's were made with B.O.B.S.I. of 15 (on a 1 to 10 scale . . .) philfell
You are comparing a G.S. specific board with a Slalom specific board. I'd make a bet that if you could get your fp 157 through a slalom course you could ride the 178 fine, it really isn't all that stiff. (I don't weigh that much more than you and I find that the stock 178's are too turny for most G.S. courses. It's not about weight, it's about technique.) Chris Houghton
I'm with Phil - the 173 and over FPs were at most 10 or 10.5 on the BOBSI scale. Protons were 13 or so, part of the reason they rode so well. The stiffest FP was the 157-18 and the 167-18 from 1996, it seemed to go downhill from there.
