Motorized carving in Seoul?

I'm currently in Seoul on a business trip.

I was stopped at an intersection waiting for the light to change and a guy pulled up on an interesting machine. The thing had two wheels that were about 12" in dia with rather beefy pneumatic tires on them. In the middle of each wheel (where the hub would normally be) were straps to hold your feet - so the wheels would essentially go around your feet as if your feet were axles. The machine was articulated in the middle and had a gas powered motor (like a chainsaw motor) driving the rear wheel. Throttle was controlled by the hand held trigger control joined to the machine by a flexible cable.

The light changed, the guy put his foot in and rode away. It looked like it handled quite like a snowboard.

Cool. Anybody seen one of these before? I couldn't see a name.

Derek

Along those same lines here's a 4WD offroad skateboard site.

I was at the LA Launch, kind of fun but disappointing.

It turns out that there was only one guy who engineered the whole thing. He could have used some other perspectives.

Bob Jeney, you want to hook them up with some Jeney Design? :o

Click on wheelman

Is this what you encounterd?

Saw a "Test" ride on TV a while back. They broke both of them within a few minutes. They were deliberately riding them hard , but they were within reason in what they tried to do with them. Expensive.

On the right track, few years they may have something more manageable and dependable. Pretty cool ideas though.

Good question, and yeah it definitely qualifies as an exotic board, that's why I went down to the launch. I was stoked after talking to the engineer and president, but then when I saw it in action I was much less impressed. They broke it and in my opinion weren't riding it as hard as I would have liked to ride it. I can't sell anything that I wouldn't buy, and I wouldn't buy one as they are now.

I would get the new wheelman before that anyway. I was just putting it up here for fun.
