Guest kriss
I began transitioning to alpine from softboot riding the last half of last season by using a prior 4/4 158/td2/raichle413.I ride at okemo/stratton.would a used 03 volkl168 gs be appropriate for a novice intermed at okemo/stratton if I want a more orthodox alpine board? btw, I consider myself a "conservative" rider-not daredevilish, etc.
Jack M
Volkls have shortish sidecut radii, so it will carve nice turns at less aggressive speeds. Volkls are great boards in general too.
Tommy D
:D I love my Volkl 163sl. It's a bit worn out now, and losing camber. But, I did learn how to carve on it. For my next board, I'm considering a 168sl, or something else (With the Volkl high on my list.) Next year I'll be doing most of my riding at Stratton/Okemo, so if you can wait, I'll let you try my board early next season. Until then, here's my description for the board: Fun, agile, FAST transitions, pop, energetic, grip. It grips very well on ice. Also, it's fairly stable at moderate speeds, but most of all, it loves turning short - medium turns. Compared to the Madd and Donek FC I tried, this board is not a board to relax on. IE - you will need to be 'on' all the time, or the board wins. Other boards aren't as demanding of your attention, and will allow you to 'cruise' a bit. I think the 168 would allow for some 'cruising' but certainly not the 163. In short, you cannot go wrong if you pick up a Volkl.
