www.oldsnowboards.com
That Johly is super nice!! EARLY Japanese history there folks. I bet it was as hard or harder to ride than the Throwback. Heavy fiberglass with a 3D base. Tricky business. That is a very collectible piece!!
Rob Stevens
Just go out and buy a board that's already made. Get a Grassroots with lots of volume, like one of his 150's, or an Asmo with less volume in the tail, like a Szygmondy. You do have other choices, like Shark snowsurf. Base profiles are nice, to help turn on harder snow and tracked lines, but the more profiled they are, the harder they become to sideslip. The Burton Throwback is not what you're looking for. The general dimensions are a big nose, a short tail, with plenty of taper. Like in surfing, braking is easier when you sink the tail straight down. Pivoting is tricky, so normal tail dimensions, even Fish "normal" is something you might find too long. Possibly too fast as well... planing comes on much sooner, where a short tail takes on an attitude in the snow that naturally brakes you, while keeping the front foot in place. You could use a snowboard, but you stand a much better chance of not getting it right. So you know, though, I use snowboards, but have one or more of all of the above. While I limit my binder "quiver" to 2, I have about 20 "pow surfers".
