Apthorpe
I haven't been on plate bindings since 1992, having swapped out for Burton Custom boots when I got heavier into backcountry riding and I never switched back. I recently ran across my ancient Koflach Superpipe boots and thought I'd convert my 1994 prototype Aggression Assault 175 that still has plenty of pop in it into a carving setup, but one I wouldn't use frequently. My Sno-Pros are long gone (they came after my Elfgens. Seriously, Elfgens?), so I need to find something I can mount cheap to goof around on. I haven't found anything local on Craigslist and most of the stuff listed here is WAY beyond my needs. Beautiful, impressive, tempting, but beyond my needs. The board has 4x4 inserts and just about anything will do. I'm looking to get into something for about $20-25. After the laughter subsides, you'll remember I said "REALLY cheap." I'm thinking an old set of bindings that are just rusting in someone's closet. Thanks!
www.oldsnowboards.com
Welcome to Bomber Online Forum!!! With shipping at approx. 15$ 25$ will get you a 10$ pair of bindings? Might as well call it a gift right. Suggestion. You are fortunate in that allot of BOL members are in CO. Perhaps post up on the Ride Board threads. Lots of good folks, perhaps if you are kind, they will loan you some of their second string gear. Most of which is likely to be at least 100$ (like TD1s , Snow Pros, etc) Love to see you get hooked up and hooked on carving again.
Apthorpe
Whoa, hang on! I said I was looking for cheap plates, not that I was cheap! I should have clarified that shipping would be separate. I'm not looking for a gift, but to try and find a set of bindings that aren't doing anyone any good right now and that they won't use in the future. Thanks for the suggestion; I'll probably go that route if this doesn't work!
scrutton
Have you checked ebay?
Apthorpe
Thanks, yep, I've been scanning ebay. Things have been a little outside what I'd like to pay, but I may have to shift my mindset. And ebay is so random, I thought this forum would be much more direct and efficient. I've been on Craigslist as well. Great if you're looking for a worn out park set-up, but alpine gear is a different story!
scrutton
How about scanning craigslist in more remote areas - claz.org.
D.T.
I'm looking to get into something for about $20-25. How much is your medical insurance co-pay and deductible? That's the minimum you will end up paying after a cheap binding explodes and leaves you with a trip to the hospital. I'm not saying that you have to spend $250+ for bindings, but anything in the price range that you are looking for will simply spell trouble in the long run. Joe D
In all seriousness, that is a brilliant answer.
www.oldsnowboards.com
In all seriousness, that is a brilliant answer. Agree, DT is a smart guy for sure. Apthorpe , I think everyone would like to see you get back into alpine snowboarding and have a blast in the process. Many of us have had serious injuries and NO one wants to see you hurt. Post up on the CO ride board, allot of good guys in CO that would be happy to help you get some good bindings that are stout. I hope you can use your experience "Keeping Executives out of trouble" and keep yourself out of serious injury. 20 year old 20$ bindings are not a good value. Unless you are a collector:)
scrutton
Here you go http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rossi-Varicant-snowboard-plate-bindings-/111021677668 $50 shipped. So, consider that $25 for the bindings and $25 for shipping.
Randy T.
I can sell these for $40 shipped if they will work for you. These belong to a friend so I don't know anything about them but Bryan can probably chime in and tell us more and if this is a fair deal. http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?34045-FS-Rossignol-plate-bindings-50 Edited March 28, 2013 by www.oldsnowboards.com
Apthorpe
Alright, this has gone from a simple "WTB" thread to a "doubting my own sanity" thread. Thanks for the guidance and thanks especially to the guys who tried to scare up some workable plates. In the not to distant past, I had a brand new Burton Mission baseplate explode right from under my foot on a hard frontside turn, so I do know what's it's like to come out of a carve with one less point of contact than I went in with. Even if the plate bindings are solid, the boots I have are the next questionable link (they're quite a bit more noodly than my Burton Ions). So it looks like I'm caught between high risk and the high price tag of trustworthy bindings and boots (my wife would be much more doubtful of my sanity if I dropped eight bills on another set of boots and bindings than if I rode gear scavenged from the flea market). I'm abandoning the search for plates and will set up some highbacks on Palmer Powerlinks at more radical angles and see how she carves. If the bug spreads, I may look at a more serious investment. Again, thanks much for the perspectives!
www.oldsnowboards.com
100$ for solid bindings. 200$ for good used boots 200$ for older (much newer than you rode last) alpine snowboard. 500$ gets you a good solid set up that you will be happy with and safer. Better yet, reach out and accept the help / loans from local riders. Or, enjoy the softbooting until you REALLY , REALLY want to carve alpine again. Either way, I hope you hang out here at BOL and get caught up on all the great equipment and riders that live here. Bryan PS. Perhaps send me a couple photos of the 1994 prototype Aggression Assault 175 and we can work out some type of trade.
