Abominable Snowman
Hello BomberOnline! I've been reading these forums for a couple weeks and figured I'd introduce myself. Like many of you, I've been riding since the days of sorels and highwraps and "what do you call that?" I've always ridden soft setups in the 60 - 65 range, but reading up on here has given me GAS to try some different stuff out- to collect twenty boards and take over two walls of the living room. Yesterday I picked up this oldie (Levitation 171) off CL that has never had bindings on it. I'll give it a go tomorrow with the soft setup, and possibly put hardboots on it down the road. The absolute best thing about this place has been looking at old rides and bringing back memories of the late 80s and 90s (my first 'real' snowboard was a Kemper Rampage 150 - I might have to buy this - http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-KEMPER-RAMPAGE-SNOWBOARD-/220920270363#ht_500wt_1413). It's amazing how quickly things were changing back then. Now it seems there isn't much difference between decks from year to year, although I suppose the materials are fancier, the shapes are largely the same. This Rossi is surprisingly light - anyone know what year it's from? Thanks.
hyak.net
I have a similar Rossi board but mine is all white with the rooster on the bottom. I'd guess it to be around a 1993-95 range because of the 4-hole pattern. It looks like a good rider but you didn't mention the length? Cool find! Gcarve
Welcome to BOL Ab. Snowman! Cool old Rossi board.
Abominable Snowman
It's a 171. Internet research shows 1998 or thereabouts.
Steve Prokopiw
I had the the great looking blue version, but I don't recall if it was made before or after yours.I loved it and rode and taught with it in hardboots. Here's the catch;it has a foam core, and even though I only weighed about 155 lbs then (and now, actually),I turned the core to mush in less than a season.I liked the performance so much, however, that I got another one;and turned it to mush too:-)
Abominable Snowman
Huh, I guess nowhere in my post did I include the model and size... what a dummy. It's a Levitation 171. The colors look a bit faded in the photo, and might be a little faded in real life. It does say Microcell core... this softens up pretty quick? Still has good camber on the hardwood floor, we'll see how it holds up.
BlueB
Welcome! I believe that Steepwater Steep was designed around the Levitation spec. If it rode anything like Steep, it should be great! However, the Steepwaters are wood core.
