I own the same deck (2002 model I got off ebay) and tried it out at hood this summer. It held an edge well on the morning boilerplate that you get in Hood early in the am, and rode pretty damp considering the ruts I was hitting. As the snow softened throughout the day, I was able to really rail it hard and lay out some decent EC turns. The width (the 158 and 168 came with wider waists) really help you in that department.

I think on the alpinecarving.com site they refer to that model as the poor man's SWOARD, and I'd have to agree it's a fun ride.

Besides, Klug seems to do pretty good with it ;)

I have one of those - and it's my favorite free carve board. It holds an edge well and also does well in not so perfect conditions.

One could argue that edge to edge transitions are not that fast because of the wider waist. But that's not a problem for me...
