John Gilmour Posted March 18, 2011 Author Report Share Posted March 18, 2011 I'd go with June Mt. instead of Mammoth which has been a mess with grooming with major "ridgelines" in the grooming and inconsistent from run to run with high winds leaving some slopes stripped bare and others a mess of windblown slab. They had 90mph winds up top 2 days ago. 90MPH! June elevation is 1000 feet less and is more wind protected... I likely won't be riding Mammoth anymore this trip because of it. Mammoth is likely pretty empty because they are hosting Mammoth Gay Ski week which most resorts Like aspen - which has its own gay ski week, hosts on the least busy week of the year in an attempt to boost ticket sales. Mammoth has a few steep fast runs which I like, but the wind has stripped all of them this week... :( I likely will not have a full day Sunday and could do mornings. Saturday you could schedule any time as June seems to stay in nearly perfect groomed condition all day. Today I ran Gunsmoke at 3:45 and the run under the chair 4 had nary a track on it.
