Mt. High East and Marketing Director Discussion

I have recently been going back and forth regarding Mountain High East resort with the Director of Marketing. I am Happy to say that he has invited me up and picking up the tab this Tuesday to take a few runs and discuss all of the new features that have been added to my personal favorite carving run/s here in So-Cal. He and I will discuss many things and I am inquiring from all of you, any issues or points of discussion about keeping or should I say at this point, converting Mt. High back into a carve friendly place. Any ideas are fair game as I feel he will be open to most any topic. :biggthump Kudos to John McColly!

Cool!

I talked to a few local skiers and some people on the race team about 3 wks ago to see if they had any pull with the managment, they said that they complained right away, so far to no avail. Maybe enough people will complain

and they will remove the jumps or just leave a few small ones up.

Goldrush and Sundance are my favorite runs, at least Sundance is still clear.

Lance! That's amazing you got him to commit to that. He didn't move an inch with me; being a kid doesn't help.

Please, if possible, get him to agree to moving the jumps onto the opposite side of Goldrush where the carving isn't as good. Maybe have the jumps on the far side of Sundance (the easternmost part of the resort is what I have in mind.) Be sure to point out the terrain there is VERY similar to the far east part of Borderline.

The race team will obviously give lots of support, see if you can get Todd, the director, involved at some point.

Let me know how it goes and if I can do anything!

I went there today and there were more and bigger jumps than a few weeks ago, not much room with the crowd trying to all ski on the right side.

The 3rd or 4th jump down takes up about 2/3rds or more of the width of Goldrush!

I heard rumors that they want to expand it even more.

Maybe a compromise would be to remove the upper jumps and start them

where the trails split. That way you could ride down the top of goldrush and take Sundance down at the split.

When they had jumps on Sundance a few years ago they were on the left side, the team wouldn't like that now.

BTW Sundance was black diamond carving at it's best today(especially the bottom and the far right!):D

My thought is exactly that, keep Sundance clear and upper Goldrush clear. everything on Goldrush below the split is fair game. Wave style hits through stampede and the Canyon would help. It is already a natural pipe in the canyon, why not exploit the natural features? We had cat tracks in WA at Crystal that the cat drivers would wedge up hits for us. The hits had more pop and less run out and consequences for the rider or anyone nearby. The take-off's and landings were both visable to the rider and so no suprises...If anything would be left on upper Goldrush, they could have some boardercross type whoops or banks. Anything else? am I on track here? King, are you going to come crash our meeting! You Should!

Another point I plan to make is to have mountain Hosts actually on the hill. The few identifiable people I ever see on the mountain are Faultline staff carrying a rake or shovel, a patroller assisting the wounded and a couple jacketed girls supposedly helping at the ticketing areas at West. Kind of like Fin's situation at Keystone( not that the patroller was correct, but safety is not taught to most of the park rats ) there really does need to be a recognizable and approachable face available on the hill to assist in explaining safety, the downhill skier has the right of way, stop on the fringe not in the middle of the run, etc...etc...don't be a tight pants emo skidder with an attitude because you can do a boardslide checker. Sorry, I must be getting old. Hosts were a great asset to the mountain and they were all volunteers! Knowledgeable about things and available to chat, offer advice, whatever.

I wanted to take the time to first thank you for making some turns and taking the time to listen to some of my (shared) input in regards to the changes at East. Faultline staff have done a great job restructuring the Jumps on Upper Goldrush to allow for less congestion. The Jumps were also very forgiving and allowed for many more skiers and boarders of all levels to enjoy. I think that those of us that enjoy speed and carving will find that the current layout will allow for this approach to riding at East (especially on Goldrush). We also discussed placing wave type hits on the edges of The Canyon run as well as increased visibility of safety tips and the Skiers Responsibility Code to further educate skiers and boarders alike. There were many other topics and ideas we discussed and it was great to hear that Mt. High is in fact, open to suggestion and allowing all of it's guests, the most enjoyable skiing/boarding experience in Southern California. I look forward to seeing what Mt High comes up with next. Keep up the great work!
