Hunting or Riding?

I have never been torn between the 2 before but I am now. Just the other day I was checking one of my trail cams and wouldn't you know it, a great big buck takes off through the woods and gives me a real good glimpse of his horns. This buck was as wide as but taller than the buck I have as my avatar (which I shot this year with my bow) Man I had almost packed it in with hunting but after seeing that, there is no way I'm not going to hunt him. I was able to get a picture of him on my trail cam twice this year but I figured it was shot by now. In NJ big dear don't last to long. Now I have to split my time between snowboarding and hunting. I'm happy that deer hunting ends at the end of January, this way I won't be torn between the two.

My Reply: That's a tuff one, do what I did and get a carving - split board , then strap on a little 94 Winchester Trapper, Teli across the flats looking to jump some big deer tracks or varmit tracks, if there is no sign of game then skin up to the top of the nearest peak and carve on down .

I wish I could do that here in NJ Steve. I'm sure you can in Oregon though.

I guess NJ has no tall hills / mountains ? out here they are every were.

Actually the only "obstacle" for lack of a better term is anti gun anti hunting socialists types who think I am raping & pillaging by hunting and being in the snow with a rifle, I pass them on X country skis with a happy-go-lucky "Hi How Are You" to them as they freeze in stark terror and clutch there children, lol.

Wish CT was like that too...oh well...

And I saw this pic, by Alpinbogen, on the carpet carving thread...what a collection of long bows in the back ground!

I guess I'm kinda glad I don't have to choose. I mainly go moose and bear hunting, and those seasons are in the fall, well before any decent riding is available. although, since my wedding made me miss last fall's hunt, i could sure go for a nice big buck right about now.

I love the anti-gun liberals. Especially when they come up here on vacation in the summers. The looks on their faces when they encounter me on a trail is very entertaining. apparently they're just not used to seeing someone with a 44mag strapped to their chest. i suspect they're just nervous that the gun might spontaneously jump out of the holster and kill them :)
