jtslalom
While shotgun hunting in NJ this little guy popped out in front of me. I had never seen such long spikes on a deer like this before. Most of my buddies busted my chops for taking it but I thought it was a neat one to take. It's meat in the freezer. Hotbeans
yeh, that's odd. I guess you dont have point restrictions over that way. In our area, minimum of 4 points on one side. It'd make a nice hat rack!
jtslalom
NJ is broken up into deer management zones. The zone I'm in has no restriction on amount of antler points. In general my personal rule while bow hunting is to let everything pass unless it is a quality shooter. I've let some pass that I had wished I didn't but for the six day shotgun season I will take smaller deer. I almost feel guilty about taking the spike especially for the fact that I shot a nice one during bow season but as I have been told before, you can't eat the horns. willywhit
nice lil buck. growing up my dad always had venison in the freezer at our farmhouse/ski house in Maine. My friends would bug out seeing a deer hanging in the barn bleeding out into a bucket. Never seen dad use a shotgun tho, always used a 30-
Hotbeans
Maybe we can get a thread going on favorite recipes? My current fav. is to marinate for ~4hrs (we're talking 1-1.5in. steaks here) in greek vinegarette dressing and cook on the grill until *at most* medium. I also recently tried a venison prime roast cooked up just like a beef one and it too was quite worthwhile.
dingbat
Dude, That's NOT a DEER! It's Mother Leeds' 13th child. RUN!
