SEJ
Weekend didn't happen. Changed my mind. Hooked up with the guy I bought the trainer from. (For you Bay Area guys it's 707boardguy. His name's Joe, and he seems like a good guy. $60 an hour for lessons.) Gretchen and I were going to make a weekend out of it. Cruise up to Bodega, (She loves it up there), take two hours of kite lesson, dinner out, walk on the beach, etc. All sounded good. I spent all day Friday picking heavy stuff off the floor, inserting it into a jig, and then putting it back on the floor. (I built the jig for our fab shop and was doing some testing. In use the material will not be on the floor.) Anyways, I got home with a pretty tight back, then I went water skiing!!! (Bear in mind about all I've been doing for the last two years at work is paper work.) Rode too long, (it's been a while cause our boat is in the shop). Make a long story short I didn't quite get locked in coming out of a turn so I ended up going out the front through the wakes. Got in the boat and thought "My back feels a little funny, I better be careful. TOO LATE. Screw me! Woke up and couldn't get out of bed. Had to cancel the lessons. The wind is ripping right now, I can see a kite in front of my house. Damn it, I want to do this! The back is getting better, I'll keep you posted. kjl
Bummer! Hope it works out this weekend for you. The wind here was totally dead here last Fri and Sat, but Sunday was pretty epic - we were doing these long-ass runs from Pt Richmond to the base of the Bay Bridge and back - somewhere around 5-6 miles each way. I was a little overpowered on my small kite. Crazy. Today I got my first couple grabs in. It's weirdly way less elegant or natural feeling than on a snowboard. I guess when you're in midair on a snowboard you are in full freefall, so you are completely 0-G weightless and bringing your board up to your chest is easy and doesn't affect your trajectory at all, but with the kite you are still pulling .3 or .5 Gs or something, so you actively have to pull your knees up while you dangle around from your harness... Weird.
