jetkin
Though this is not exactly a carver's event per se, it is a total blast and a chance to meet a lot of riders. There were probably about 100 people last year, mostly from around the NE, but also crews from down south, up north, and out west. There were skate-luminaries like Cliff Coleman, Sergio Yuppie and Adam Colton as well. - Jim Originally Posted by NY Longboard Association The Central Park Race is looking to be one of the best ones ever. Around 8pm we are going to have the most kick ass party hosted by Earthwing Skateboards, it will be held at 210 Cook Street in Brooklyn. This building is a perfect party location with a half pipe in the Earthwing space and a huge roof where we are going to have some bands play... I just talked to Keegan Ales and they are in to bring by some kegs of Keegan Ale and barbecue. On Sunday Earthwing is holding their second annual slide/wheelie event in the Cloisters, around 4PM (directions to come) We are going to have great events great prizes and a great party. In the past Fred and I have wished that the events weren't over so soon for people who come so far, sometimes overseas. This year will be the first year we have a full weekend event! If it rains Saturday we will have to… Have the Central Park Race on Sunday maybe 11pm then the Slide Event at 4pm and then the Party at 8pm just so everyone who traveled so far can make all the events ... all times are subject to change... Check Broadway Bomb - Home - Welcome to the BROADWAY BOMB Dot Com... for details we will put a central park page on there soon
Gecko
So is it an actual race around central park? Or just an excuse to get together and ride?I did 3 laps of the park the other day and my calves are so fricking sore it's not even funny... it's both....there are some guys who train specifically to win this race but it's also an excuse to get together and skate. I've been talking to my wife about that weekend and my desire to possibly race it. A bunch of guys I skate with have done it and or plan on doing this years race. It's part of a whole Skate weekend in NYC, there is a slide comp in Brooklyn on Sunday too

There are sponsors and prizes for the winners (and for some of the cruisers if you're pushy enough). The slide comp on Sunday is actually at the Cloisters in Fort Tryon park, way up at the northern tip of Manhattan, home to what is arguably one of the city's best hills (in terms of pavement, pitch and traffic conditions). Pedestrians, bicyclists, fruit-booters, runners, horse-drawn carraiges - it is slalom, with large moving cones.

jetkin
Nice! I'm totally going to be there. Any idea where at Columbus everyone's meeting? I'm guessing that if you head to the Park Entrance, you'll see a bunch of people gathering there. That's what I'm doing. I'll be the one with a grey beard and a big nose, on a vanguard. jetkin
Race is next Saturday (6/7). From the chatter on SilverFish sounds like people are coming in from all over US/Canada. The Friday night before (6/6) there should be a pretty big turnout in Brooklyn for the weekly Prospect Park RIP. Party after the race on Saturday. Slide comp in Manhattan at Fort Tryon Park on Sunday. Details here
