Extra lift on TD2 intec's with flat shims?

Hello

I have 3 and 6 degree plates. Set to max toe lift up front, and max heel lift on the back binding.

I want to try to add a bit more. Is it possible to use flat shims under the blocks. Or will that interfere with the funktion of the Intec's?

If so, is ther any slanted shims avilable?

Gunnar,

Generally we do not recommend "shimming" the sole block or heel receiver of the TD2 bindings. You can possibly do it for the Standard version (Toe Clip type) as these do not rely on the alignment of the sole blocks as much. But I would not recommend it for the SI models. The SI TD2 needs to have the front sole block in-line with the heel receiver in order for the step-in function to work correctly. The pins and ramps on the Intec heel need to have everything line up properly to functions. Shimming one or the other may interfere with this function.

Some things to think about: 6 degrees of mechanical lift (or cant) is a lot and near the end of the usable range IMHO. If you feel you need more take a look at some of the other factors of your set-up:

  • Use more forward lean on rear boot and/or less on the front boot.
  • Is you stance too wide? This will call for more lift or cant then is reasonable
  • One of my favor tricks: try swapping the front and rear disks. Run 6 in front and three in back. Worth a try and a lot of people have enjoyed this set-up.

There are so many options on our set-ups. Try some of these other options and see how that goes.

Fin and I have seen riders run such crazy cant we just want to slap them.

Fun thing is the reason most riders look for more cant is becuase there are flaws in technigue.

I have heard many riders say well I have funny knees or my legs are crazy etc. Some times its as simple as boot canting, stance width and angles etc.

Then we sent them out with a experanced rider to shadow and evaluate there technigue.

Most riders walk away with a more powerful style, and cants and stance that work and are much less then they tought they needed.

Perhaps some time with a very experanced upper level rider who understands the biomechanics of alpine snowboarding would be a easy fix??

Good luck!

Thx for the respons Fin! :biggthump

I don like the "forward lean on rear boot and/or less on the front boot" trick.

It limits the ankles forward flex motions. Bad in bumps and transitions. (I can't understand how riders can like to ride flat!!!? But I suppose many of them

have not tried anything else :nono: )<o></o>

I like my wide and stable stance, and I know I want more lift over all.<o></o>

On my Burton Fish I have Unicant set to max (8 degrees) in the back, and a fixed <st1:city w:st="[/img]<ST1<img" src="images/smilies/tongue.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Stick Out Tongue" smilieid="6" class="inlineimg">Burton</st1:city> 5,5degrees Hex-disc up front. Very comfortable.<o></o>

But that’s on a Fish, so it’s hard to tell if it's a good set up for EC. I think it will be too much in the turns, when the board bends.

<o></o>

I can't try the same set up on my Afterburner, because I have no 3x3 plate for the Hex-Disc.<o></o>

But I’m going to try 5,5 and 6 degrees on the Fish with the same stance, to se how it feels before I try to swap my 3* bomber disc for a 6*.

They are outdated and based on riders using the standard burton cants which are also old school and outdated.

Most riders ride mostly lift but not much cant currently.

All of the rider listed don't ride that gear anymore. and havent for years.

Read it how ever you like I'm only tring to offer suggestions to make you a happier rider.

Its up to you to try different options In my experance and opinion more then 6 degrees is really over kill and when burton bindings domminated the WC riders where forced to ride what Burton made based on the Knock kneed old school ideas

My personal stance has no cant at all only lift.

But then again its my stance.

As all the hundreds of riders I have set up will tell you, the one thing I tell everyone is "the Best thing about your stance is its your stance"!
