Mike T
Certainly looks like a patrol-planned slide. Look how well the shape of the slide matches the hill its on. The blasting that they do on the Cirque at Bachelor often looks just like this. Then again it's entirely possible that Mother Nature can make such a shape as well! Randy T.
Yeah that is a pretty big slide so I hope the patrol did it. These pics are from two years ago at Mammoth. They got 10-12" of powder overnight and the top of the mountain was closed until noon the next day while they did avalanche control. We were on about the 10th chair after the top opened and after coming down this bowl my friend stopped to take some pictures. The first picture is pre slide and while he was facing down hill putting his camera back into his pocket the slide hit the back of his legs, knocked him down and took him for a ride. It wasn't that deep so nothing too serious. Second picture shows the area that slid. The patrol had blasted both sides of the bowl and made them slide but left the center of it untouched.
