  1. I realise that Mammoth is ridiculous on the weekends, but do you guys prefer June over Mammoth during the week as well?

Back in the day when I did a few season trips to Mammoth we always went to June and I just always found it to be kind of not that interesting but really well groomed; the size is not an issue if there are good runs, (like say Mt Rose which is awesome), but compared to Mammoth I always wondered when they would figure out how to groom Mammoth as well as June, because runs like Cornice Bowl (when groomed which is not often) and so on are just way better than what I saw on June....

Or is this the weekend retreat?

june is kinda of a niche mountain, you either love it or not. I can speak for myself and Brian in saying we prefer june all the time. but others like the shear size of mammoth when it is not crowded. my problem with mamoth is that their runs all run into "funnel runs" at the bottom, which are one: always crowded for carving standards and two: cut up all to hell no matter how good the grooming. The other problem with mammoth IMO, is that they just have too much area to do a good groom. unlike june which is small in comparison so the guys can really get in there and make a white carpet.

btw, you run cornice on an alpine board? damn i'd like to see a video of that.

  2. I have a Large 05 Marmot firelight fleece jacket which i wore for like 2 days. However, i recently switched to a tight fit softshell and had to buy a thiner jacket so i want to sell this one to recoop some money. it is a 300 level fleece, the warmest you can buy and has pit zips and will zip into any marmot hard shell. here is a picture if you want one of the actual email me, i'm just being lazy since its basicly brand new. I paid 90 for this guy but would liek 80 shipped. feel free to email me with questions or REASONABLE offers. thanks

  3. just got back from june mountain today. snow conditions were great despite a small base and high temps. it was a little soft on monday due to 2-3 feet of new snow and i managed to crash and burn and give my self whiplash. thanks to a helmet it wasn't much worse. but tuesday and wensday the cats got on it and it was perfect for carving.

  4. I use the above method and scrape off with a Da Kine Metal scraper. Works great for me. Have any of you tried a hot glue gun?!

yeah, when i first started working for my shop years ago, they were using a glue gun. however, repairs turned out like poop. so i soon just switched to torching the candles instead. the glue gun doesn't get hot enough, but you might be able to find a glue gun that gets hotter and it may work, but the cheap ones dont.

  5. i was going to say the same thing as the previous poster. and also dont try to ptex small scratches cause the small ones are better filled with wax. Ptex doesn't like to bond in tight areas in my experience and like said above they need to be opened up sometimes.

  6. a few years back a couple companies cracked down on gear being sold on the internet, some were that they were not authorized resellers(so they had boards coming in for warranty that were origionally sold off by other shops a season or two before) and others were that they did not want their stuff being sold mail order for other reasons.

the thing was that boards would be sold as new but when a waranty issue would come up and the reciept was from a shop the manufacturer has never heard of is where it came from it kind of makes things hard, and in some cases boards that never were meant for retail like rental gear but shop X told the buyer that it had a manufacturers waranty.

There were even rumors of counterfiet boards ending up in shops, not sure I buy that one, more likely a batch that had subpar epoxy or something that was meant to be in a dumpster and someone at the factory decided to make some cash, this happens with consumer electronics sometimes so I am sure it can happen easily with snowboards.

that all makes good sence, but our friend tahoe is just trying to resale something he bought from a retailer cause he doesn't want it anymore and happens to have not used it, or wore it with the tags, either way its his right to try to sell it through any avenue he deems best. he never entered into any contract with burton(unless he did and hes not telling us) so he is entitled to sell it and tell who ever is interested who makes it. its not like he used burton logos, i saw the previous listing, he only used the picture he took. i think burton should give you a refund if they dont want it on ebay. but as it seems, ebay canceled you so....it sounds kinda shady to me.

  7. After 2 days at it again this season, I must be doing something right! :) By my last few runs, I was feeling serious quad burn in my rear leg on toeside turns---so much so that halfway down, I'd just have to "give up," standing up straight for the rest of the way down.

I don't think this is a sign of doing anything wrong...I'm just finally getting good enough to really lower my torso in turns, angulating more, and (therefore) getting the board up on edge more.

Last year, I almost never felt any quad burn at all...obviously because I was a total newbie and not really flexing much...

PS - I've still got plenty to learn though...

yeah i've felt that before, gotta train before you ride. do quad exercises, like a wall sit and you'll be all ready to go longer and longer.

  8. could you explain exactly how you were approached about infringment? it seems that unless you buy the gear directly from burton you should be able to sell second hand where and when ever you want. i think you are getting jerked around. would like to know more.

  9. I was just on ebay looking for a new MP3 player. I noticed, maybe because of the holidays but, damn everything is like full priced. I remember a time when you used to be able to find things on ebay for like half price. now everything from sony network mp3 players to ipods to burton jackets to TD2s are at minimum of retail prices. then after shipping forget it. It is still alright for used items but new stuff is all full price. has the internet lowered to retail cut so much that products are sold for close to their wholesale price? It seems that way. I just bought a K2 blackhawk one helmet from tramdock for 229 which was the price at rei.com, when the retail was 299. come to find out the wholesale for that product was like 219. so that company only made 10 dollars? and i got free shipping so maybe they made 4 dollars? wow!!! at least now i can by things in the store without worring about finding it cheaper on the internet, which is very convient cause you dont have to wait for shipping. what do you guys think? has anyone else noticed this trend?

  10. I have for sale a patagonia fleece which i had for the past six seasons. I used it off the slope as well in winter, so it has more use than my jacket which is also in the classifieds. as you can see in the photo it is in great shape with the only flaw being the faded sections in the elbows. However, to be honest it looks more faded in the photo. In person you can hardly notice it. please email me if you would like 3.2 mega pixel photos. asking $40 shipped to the US.

  11. I have for sale a Patagonia Storm Jacket which I have used for the past six seasons. However, I get in maybe 4 to 6 days per season and live in san deigo and daytona beach, so i dont use it much except to snowboard. so the jacket has been in a closet for 98 percent of the time. The result is a like new condition jacket. If you would like full 3.2 mega pixel pictures, please email me.

asking $75 shipped to the US.

  12. Ok first off I totally agree with this but I want to run a scenario by you that happened to me last season:

I'm on a catwalk. It's maybe 15 feet wide and I start to come up on a 30-40 year old lady in front of me with her neice skiing in front of her. We are going UPHILL on said catwalk and the lady and her neice are taking up the WHOLE catwalk going back and forth. On top of that they are alternating with each other so that when one is on the right the other is on the left. At this point I've attempted passes on both sides of them only to be cut off and have to skid to keep from taking out the older lady. Now that I've lost almost all of my momentum I'm getting desperate to pass them and I see the window and pass the aunt on the left. I get passed her and I'm 1/2 way from passing the neice and she comes barreling towards me as expected. I slam into a right-turn-skid but it's too late. I end up running right over the back of her skis and take her out.

Now I knew I was totally at fault here and I don't deny that still. I helped the little girl get back up while apologizing over and over to both her and the aunt despite getting the biggest earful from the aunt I've ever gotten on the slopes. She kept yelling at me (it didn't seem to matter what I said) saying I almost hit her and then I took out her neice and that she should turn me in to the patrol and this and that...Again I agreed with her-my fault totally-I was uphill.

I never once argued that they shouldn't be taking up the whole catwalk and there was no reason for them to be turning like that on a very flat-uphill section of the mountain. I just bit my lip.

Don't you think there are exceptions to the rule? I just don't think it applies to every single scenario. IMHO the "downhill skiier" can cause accidents in certain situations as well.

P.S. There is still no excuse for running into somebody. Next time I'll be more patient! Or just dive into the trees! ;)

Since you and the said victims of your crime, were actually going UPHILL. Technically, YOU were DOWNHILL from them!!! SOOO..its their fault. Right? right?:smashfrea Maybe not.:p
