  1. Interesting read. I just picked up my 165 VSR xtight asym this morning and took it out today for it's first day. I was a bit concerned after reading your report and to add to my concerns, conditions were firm due to the thaw and rain late last week followed by sub zero weather. I didn't know what to expect but had to try out the new toy(my first Coiler).

What a pleasant surprise. I found it very user friendly with no negative traits, that I've discovered yet. I'm centered on the inserts, 19.75 stance width. Differences between the boards are that mine is only 17 wide, built for 180 lbs and xtight vs med. I'm guessing the med. sidecut is requiring more speed to get to the boards sweet spot than the xtight. That could explain why it felt better on the big hills in Aspen vs. the narrower icier terrain that you're seeing at your home mt. I'm quite sure that I'd prefer the med. sidecut if I had access to bigger hills but for our little Ontario hills the xtight is just right.

Between your Stubbette and your VSR it sounds like you have a perfect board for either big or not so big hills.

Still sorry that I didn't make it to SKES either year. Maybe next year.

  2. I think you really need to consider vertical. It's easy to do top to bottom on the little hills we have in Ontario but I don't think I'd even try to do top to bottom at a place like Whistler. No way could my legs take 4000' of vertical non stop.

  3. Good luck, hope they respond to you.

I gave up waiting for a response from them. Sold all my Catek stuff except one set and that will probably be up for sale soon. It's too bad, nice bindings but I don't want to be stuck with bindings that I can't get replacement parts for.

  4. MSLM has special rates for spring break. I think they reduce student rates from $49 to $36 for full day.

Riding was FUN today! Lots of sunshine and spring snow on firm base. If they time their grooming right it should be ok tomorrow. No ice today, just corn on solid base.

  5. I'm heading over tomorrow morning and will post what it's like when I get home.

It's supposed to get cold tomorrow night so I'm guessing that Saturdays conditions will be similar to what we had on Tuesday. Much better than expected considering that it rained all morning on Monday. It was very firm but you could still set a good edge.

  6. Had pretty much the exact same experience dealing with this seller, no real communication after paypal sent. The item I ordered did arrive in about 10 days and was in good condition as described but an email giving tracking number or confirmation of shipment would have been nice.

  7. A couple of questions/ observations from looking at the pics.

Just out of curiosity, which soles are you using on the boots? The hard ones or the soft ones? If it's the soft they could be compressing and giving a spring effect causing the binding to release.

Although it looks like the toe bail is pretty much touching the boot it doesn't look like it's over center very much so it wouldn't take much to pop it open.

Hope you get this issue resolved quickly as bindings self releasing is scary.

  8. Since I haven't been out on my newly plated boards I can't comment on how it will affect your board but I do know that I'm comfortable riding my Prior WCRM as an all day ride. If the plate makes it even better as an all day ride I'll be really happy.:)

  9. I've had all of those at one time or another and your findindings are pretty much my experience. One thing that I believe comes into play is boot length with respect to flex or should I say sudden stop of flex. The Heads and UPZ's have buckle interference as you flex forward, which is what Bob has refered to as the sudden stop of flex. I think this gets worse as the boots get shorter.
