  1. I made it up today. Very carvable corduroy. But looking at the forecast, looks like some down time while we wait for some new snow... If we ever get some? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Honestly, this is the fall weather we missed. I hope it means that winter comes soon! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I'm thinking of tomorrow (wed)... Sounds like another warm system on Thursday moves in. Wet snow, probably rain... Termina's blog predicts near 60 on Sunday! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Note to self: check that all Boiler plate screws are tight a few times after a re-mount... Mine came loose, one more run and I might have ripped the plate off? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Anyone been up in the last few days? How bad is it? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. I forgot to mention that both base attachments to my boiler plate were loose when I got back to the car... One more run and then??? I had an accident back in '94 when I pulled out my front hard plate binding. I forgot the name of the binding, but it was some sort of cage contraption that was drilled in like a ski binding mount. It is no fun skidding out with only your back foot in. Somehow (I was young) I didn't loose my leg! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. More snow will be here, eventually. Screen shot from: http://evan.ucsd.edu/Ski.html Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. A quick shot of a turn on Wednesday... Looks like I could get that board up on edge more... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. I'm giving the forum a try again, first time this year if successful. It was being a pain un the arse to use... I was up at Meadows Tues and Wed this week (Jan 6, 7). Made a run with Bryan on Wed, and ran into/ met Daren (I'm bad with names, riding a Sword) in the parking lot. Mornings were ok, then the snow completely turned to mush. Feels like June? Looks like end of next week may be a storm? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. I think I saw Bryan today with a friend on his Tinker board? I couldn't tell from the lift? I dropped my son (4 yrs) off a ski school, and it was a race to see how many runs I could get in before 11:30... So, I didn't have the luxury of waiting around. I wanted to watch how he was doing. I started skiing at 4 ('76),... And it was all downhill from there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. I love the Boiler Plate. It helps smooth out the flex of the board. The price would be the only reason I see that others don't use it. However, looking at the quality, the price is justified. Just had to promise the wife to clean the bathrooms for 6 months... A pain that was worth it. Today was my first day on the new board, Kessler 168. I'll write a review in a separate thread, let me just say..... WOW... Where have you been all my life! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Amazing! I'm sure the groomers didn't keep up, dare I say a soft boot day? Looking at the forecast, I'm thinking Friday as my day to make a guest appearance. I'm expecting that the groomers will have time to do good and that the snow will be hard, but not yet full spring corn again? Dare we say that the season has shifted a month forward from times past?
  13. I just received my new Bomber Boiler Plate 4mm lite. I'm sharing my first time experience. The quality and workmanship look great! I did have to sand and polish the front axle slider top aluminium (silver) cover because it was causing the black plastic slider piece to bind slightly. One side was smooth, this other side was very sticky. It didn't take much. It looks as if the two counter-sunk drill holes might be slightly off, by a hair? The plate probably would have been fine, but it bothered me, so I fixed it. I've never used a plate system before. I watched the how to video from Bomber and just went by the book for the set-up: Used wonderbar; Center the axle over the 'center' of the board (which had a 25mm setback); Mount the bindings to the plate as usual. I was using TD2's, which fit on the plate quite well, clear of those rounded bolts on the top. I do have a relatively 'old school' narrow stance @ 18" (I'm 5'10") I LOVE how quickly it is to transfer the plate from board to board while keeping all the details exactly the same. Even without a 2nd board set-up, it's still cake to just transfer the whole plate. Easier than moving the TD2 bindings from board to board without a plate. A 2nd board set-up would be money if you got money and not time... I don't know why... but my first few turns were nervous and didn't feel good. But, nervous turns never feel good... So, I got over it and drove the board in as I should... no problems. The plate might have made the board a little stiffer on slow turns like the ones right off the lift, but didn't seem to affect the turning radius at all in normal to hard turns. The snow was spring conditions... groomers had their moments, but lots of uneven corn, hard pack, and some sort of semi-frozen yogurt. I could tell immediately that the plate was really smoothing out the ride. Pretty impressive, I thought to myslef... What really caught my attention was going hard on heel-side through the semi-frozen yogurt. The board hits that stuff and wants to fold into a half-circle. Normally this would have sent me over the handlebars or just a silly washout, but I swear the plate helped mellow out the boards response and allowed me to just push through it, finishing the turn. I swear the plate really made a difference, at the minimum allowed me to remain confident, which is 98% of the technique battle most times. I was always a little scared that a plate system would just make the board stiffer, but I was wrong. The Boiler Plate really does it's job of smoothing out the carve. I'm now a believer! thanks Bomber crew!
  14. I went for it. Bought a new Kessler and Boiler plate... I'll try and test it out on the spring snow this next week. Any theories on how to set up Boiler plate? I'm just running it by the book, centered. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Yes, must have been Jay. He said he took some pictures of you last Wednesday. After seeing him on his old asym board, I had regrets about selling my old Burton asym PJ-7 probably for pizza money in collage... That would have been a fun board to have around still...
  16. I was up at 'Hood' this morning. Let me give a report on conditions: This must have been similar to the conditions in Sochi? Warm, temps have been above freezing since Sunday I think? Just enough wind to ice up the various ridges at the top of the lifts. Vista was best because the grooming was smooth. carves were inches deep into the snow, make sure you've got good wax! or the snow will bite you! Cascade was a bit hard at top, but what made it difficult was the lumpy groom job. Snow was smooshy by 11am, done with riding went home. I met Joe, who said he knows you guys. He was making some nice carves on an old asym Nidecker... long live old boards!
  17. What do you think the snow will be like tomorrow? It's supposed to snow a bit, but I'm thinking the groomers should be able to blend it down? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Great looking turn... Wasn't it one of the Blues Brothers that said, "I've been exploited all my life...". It would be great if this made a front page shot! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I did another 'guest' appearance up at Meadows today (Tuesday). Dropped the kids off at school, managed to ride for about an hour and a half and just got back to work for lunch... You've got to love the lift lines mid-week! There was some great groomer snow, but it was hidden by a few inches of fresh and some flat light. It was like a 'powder' day for a race boarder... you could dig in hard into the groom underlay and still feel the light stuff spraying off... fun... very happy... work is busy for me right now, but I'll be looking to make another 'guest appearance'... I'll be looking to catch the snow before it warms up much...
  20. Sounds great...! Does the Nidecker have a standard sidecut? how old is it? I've got a few other boards myself... A short Hot Blast slalom board from '96 and a 180 F2 GS board that is from '03. The Rossi is just an easy board to ride, which is why I use it when getting my mojo back... I'm looking at the weather and thinking Thursday/Friday this next week... I'm guessing the mountain's in full-on spring mode right now with day time temps in the 40's...
  21. Thanks for all the advice. I took up the old Rossi (Throttle 167) again today. Very traditional sidecut/ camber... Again, best board ever (of any board 15 years or older that I have ridden)... However, I got to ride with Bryan and Mike... Wow! I need something new. I'm thinking the old Rossi feels good because it has softened up. As I get my legs back the old board may not be able to keep up. As I understand, non-traditional sidecuts need to be combined with the right amount of rocker/camber profile... Traditional side-cuts are predictable if you've grown up with them. Non-traditional side-cuts are trying to give you more control per degree of incline? This is because a traditional side cut will make a exponentially tighter radius per degree of edge tilt. You can imagine how a one degree difference in board angle (with snow) will force the board to flex deeper and deeper. I think I can feel this, there is a point where bringing the board over on edge blows up, or at least harder to hold with a standard sidecut. I would think this point could be extended with a non-traditional sidecut? But, this is just bar talk, and I need another beer... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. Back at my desk after a quick morning session. I met Bryan and Mike on the hill. They were nice enough to wait for me on a few runs. It felt great to be among fellow skinnys... Great 'hero' carving snow today!... I'll keep my eye open for this next front coming in next week, possibly later next week might have some cold snow for the groomers to comb...
  23. I think I've got my email set-up in the forum now... we'll see? I didn't get a nice warm pop-up message with fireworks letting me know that I did it correct. Anyway, I'll keep my eyes and ears open for what's going on. I raced snowboards with the U of O (club sports) team in '95 and '96... so I'm wondering if I know anyone around here from those days anyway? I've got a close friend who also raced at the same time at U of O who lives in Portland. I think I've convinced him to dust of the race board as well!.... who knows, there may be more of us than we thought!
  24. Hello... I'm new to the forum and see that this is the Meadows crew? I've got my spring pass and hope to catch a handful of days before the season is over... starting tomorrow (Friday)... although, it's spring break for many schools, so tomorrow might not be the mid-week day necessary for care-free carv'in. I get a little nervous digging in on a crowded hill. It seems that no-one expects a snowboard to turn, just slide.... cool... steve
  25. I've got my spring pass. I'll be up at Meadows tomorrow (Friday) as long as my desk at work doesn't catch on fire (you never know). However, I might not get there too much before 9:30am. Ummm... ok... maybe I can try to wake up a bit earlier? Assuming I'm late, what chair are you most often spotted on? I like the 'left' from the Vista chair. Sometimes the 'right' exiting off Hood Express chair. I would be super stoked to see another hard-booter! I feel a little alien out there these days. I am using cants that came with the bindings... not much, but feels right..., I'm not sure of my spacing... I would love to try a new(er) board, but it doesn't need to be tomorrow if the timing is off. I've missed a few (too) many seasons in a row and I'm am just super stoked to be riding again,... old boards and all!
