  1. It's a 12-13 Never Summer Cobra 155. I was looking for a new board to have over here as I couldn't get any of my boards from home shipped over and I haven't actually had a new freestyle board in a long time so splurged XD. Will the fact that its a rocker-camber style board effect the tuning? I guess I will just go get it waxed then for starters and see how it feels on the mountain when I get it out there. And haha! discussing de-tuning! My language skills are slowly coming along so I have no idea if I would be even able to tell the person behind the counter what I want for this board. Probably best just to get a wax and go from there. Thanks!
  2. Hey everyone, So with a new board comes the question...do I need to tune it before first ride? Should I just get a wax done or get wax and edges? Sharpen or de-tune? (I've only been reading about de-tuning and not quite sure what the point of a "de-tune" is). Any suggestions? I can't do it myself although I've always wanted to learn and the places around me are far and few between that can. I don't even think I can get the edges done unless I go to a mountain as one shop I called said (as far as I could understand) that because I didn't buy the board with them they would only wax it. Again I'm country side Japan with no car so I have a total of Sports Authority, Alpine Sports Shop, and Murasaki Surf/Sports shop that can possibly do it. (Murasaki said they would only wax it) Thanks for the help!
  3. Hey guys! Thanks so much for your suggestions and advice. I actually went with a Never Summer 12-13 155 Cobra and I am very excited to get it out on the slopes this season. It was right within my budget and all the specs lined up. Thanks again! Now onto boots!
  4. Hey welcome to Japan!! I was up in Niseko for 3 days in January and it was AMAZING! The powder was just awesome and the runs were great. I didn't see any carvers up that way though but I had a great time on the rented all mountain board that I got. It's too bad that I won't be able to get up there this year because of time/work commitments so I am completely jealous that you get to go. Niseko has a great rental board program. For one man (about $100) I was able to rent a demo board that felt amazing on the powder. I wish I could have taken it home. As for lodgings I stayed at this great place about 5-10 minute walk downhill from the resort. I loved it and they were really friendly. I can't remember what it cost because I did package deal trip with a group of people but I will find out where I stayed and how much it would be. If you are going to be anywhere else in Japan hop over to my prefecture and ride Tateyama mountain! It's a nice ride nothing like Hokkaido but descent and I really enjoyed it. I did see some carvers there but never got a chance to talk/ride with. DON'T rent equipment from there if you can help it. Hokkaido had the best board/this place had the WORST board. You also have Hakuba in Nagano which also provides excellent riding. Will be going there quite a lot this season (fingers crossed). Getting around: I highly suggest flying Peach Airlines if you are on a budget. From my prefecture round trip flight was 18000 yen. They are the low cost carrier airline of Japan. If you aren't on a financial and time budget take the night train up. I haven't taken it before but some friends of mine took it last year and they thought it was nice. Have a great time!
  5. Oh that tricky thing called a budget  If I didn't need new softboots too (also on the stiff side) I would definitely go higher in the board. I will take a look into the boards you mentioned but I don't think I will be getting a hardboot set while I'm here. I love my F2 and my hardboots would be a hassle to have shipped here. I'm also looking up Japanese boards I'm not adverse to them. Unfortunately where I live there is no dedicated board shop unless I travel a good two hours away (yay to be in the country side!) So I'm doing all of my research online and hopefully will find something when the local sports stores start bringing out the board stuff. I would hate to buy a board without even getting the chance to see it person. Thanks for the advice! I will try to go dig up that old thread.
  6. Hello everyone, I moved abroad about a year ago and I am looking into getting a stiff freeride board that I can do similiar carving like I do on my F2. I had to leave them at home so I figured this would be a good opportunity to get a new board while I'm here! Any suggestions? I am a 5'3", 130lb female. My F2 is 163 and I ride a 153 freestyle at home. I am looking for a 155 mid-stiff board maybe around a 5-6 on the 1-10 scale. I was looking at Never summer boards, Jones, and I found a Head AK SCi that looked interesting. I am also looking at men's boards. I don't particularly like the designs of female boards and some of the ones I've looked at don't have the stiffness I am looking for or the length. Thanks for the help!
