  1. Spent the last 3 days at timberline. 2/25 bluebird , spring conditions firm in the am gradually softening throughout the day, Kessler 168BX, great day!

Friday, 2/ 26, started out bluebird and warm, firm in the am the turning to corn and clouding up as the day went on. Primo carving all day on the Kessler

176 ride. At the end of the day I committed to getting back on the hardboots for 2/27 no matter what. Waxed up the Donek 176 free carve from 2013 and

put the TD3s on Friday night. Saturday 2/27, 3+ inches  of wet snow over the groomed, pissing rain, Rain snow mix, not ideal conditions, had a blast! Cant

wait to get back on the hardboots  under better circumstances, so much  fun!

  2. For those of you in Australia or New Zealand that are into Jimi Hendrix music you are in for a treat.

Check out Hendrix revolution. Seattle guitarist Randy Hansen is bringing his show to your neck of the woods.

I live in Seattle and have seen Randy dozens of times. His show is not to be missed. he has played  with

all of the members  of Jimi's old bands and is the only Hendrix act recognized by the remaining Hendrix

family. Hope to make it down there for riding one of these days. We are experiencing a great season here

in the Northwest despite the El Nino. Destroyed Mt. Hood today.

  3. Don't know if these are the stiffest, but I like Diodes, Malamutes and Power Plates or Catek Freeride. For pow, I use the Diodes by themselves or the

Now Drive bindings. Neither one of those by themselves work that great  for aggressive carving as far as I'm concerned.

  4. Timberline 12/31-1/1

Cold temps have kept the snow in great shape and the T-line grooming crew has been doing a great job. High winds have been limiting

chair operations with Flood, Mollys, and Pucci on Thurs and only Flood on Friday until they closed it for wind around 11:30.Crowding has not been a problem

with the wind and cold temps sending lots of folks to the lodge despite the parking lot being nearly full. The knee and the brain have come back and I

am able to ride pretty much at the same level as before my accident, though only good for about 3 hrs of hard riding. Back to riding with my 34 year old son and his

buddy. We've been riding together since they were 9. Tools of choice were once again Donek Saber 170 and Incline 169 and 172. Stevens Pass next week. I'm thinking

another couple weeks until I'm ready to get back on the hardboots.

  5. After 22 months and 2 knee surgeries off the snow and 2 warm up days at Stevens pass, I have been at T-line since 12/26.

Conditions have been great, riding both pow and groomers. Today really came around with the stellar grooming, cold temps,

fresh pow out of bounds both east and west of the mile and bluebird sky. The next few days look like more of the same. Low crowds,

awesome grooming and maybe the Palmer snowcat tomorrow. So far only in softboots with custom Donek Saber and custom Donek incline,

both with Burton  Diodes and Bomber Power Plates. Hoping to get back into the hardboots in a few weeks. Timberlines lack of anything really steep

is a great pace to get the knee and brain back into riding again. Started to really get after it today.

  6. Been down that way a bunch lately, i'll get a hold of you when i have more time. Love to stop in for a beer.

we are actually looking to become part time Portlandites. We really dig the city, and are in the process of selling

a property we have in the Seattle area to fund a place in Portland. The eventual goal is to be full time down there

but for now, due to my client base it has to be part time.

Thanks Bryan, ill be in touch.

  7. For any Jimi Hendrix fans out there. Fellow Seattle resident and Hendrix tribute guy plays the Soiled Dove in Denver tonight.

Randy Hansen has played with Billy Cox, Buddy Miles, Mitch Mitchell and has been doing the Hendrix thing for 30 years. The

dude tears it up and puts on a great show. Not to be missed if you are a Hendrix fan. I've seen him dozens of times and he

never fails to get after it.

I continue to heal after a devastating knee injury back in Feb. 10 weeks post surgery, just starting PT, I've written of the winter

and hoping for spring riding at Hood March-May.

Post up a review if you go!

  8. Just wanted to give a quick shout out to Dr. Schwartz, he responded to my post regarding a knee injury and

offered to take a look at the results of my MRI, then sent me a comprehensive opinion and some advice

regarding treatment. Just another example of how cool everybody I've come in contact with is on BOL.

Whether I've met them in person, done business with them or simply exchanged a couple of e-mails ,

everyone has been pretty cool. Hope to meet and ride with more of you , once I'm through this madness.

  9. Troy, Thanks for the kind words and advice. I've only met a few of the folks on BOL, some from Mt. Hood and a couple from Schweitzer

along with a few that I've not really met but purchased gear from. Its a pretty awesome community when you get well wishes from a complete stranger

and you can send hundreds of dollars via certified check to another complete stranger and have your gear arrive in a few days without worry! Thanks again

Looks like a long hard road ahead, but I'm going to do my best to get back on the snow by at least sometime next season.

  10. Saturday and Sunday were both awesome pow days at Stevens, despite the crowds. All of our favorite inbounds trees and chutes were good to go.

Low to mid 20's, lots of new snow , great days. Sunday being the best, that is until while riding the steep trees skiers left of Double Diamond (for those

of you that know the area) I tagged a tree with my knee completely tearing my ACL,MCL,PCL and ripping the quad muscle off the bone. Season over,

maybe able to return next. Have to wait and see.

  11. Interestingly enough , Earl was a training director back in the day when my son was an instructor at one of the sattelite schools at Stevens Pass. My son quit instructing when they insisted he ride duck foot. He could ride circles

around all the level 3 's , examiners and training directors and was an excellent instructor but that was the last straw.

We started riding when he was 9 or so , he became the youngest instructor hired at Stevens Pass when he was 14 and quit when he was 20 or so. Today ,he is 33 we still ride together all the time he still rips and we both ride 30-35 in soft boots. Now ive just got to get him to spend some time in hardboots!

  12. Sandy,

I rode the "Ride" 176 Wed in pretty good quality PNW powder at Steven Pass and today 1st thing on soft groomers.

The board rips the pow and handles the cut up stuff really well . Really smooth ride. To long for the steep trees at Stevens but other than that i am very impressed. It was great on the groomers as well, carves like a champ and has a super fast base. I'm looking forward to trying it out on some firm groomed. I was lucky enough to score mine from a fellow BOL

member for about 1/2 price! ( thanks Teach ! ) You cant go wrong with Sean building you a Hazlewood, I have 7 Doneks,

both for soft boots and hardboots and they all rip. I'm thinking a Hazlewood is in my future. The one thing I do notice about the Kesslers is that, while carving, when you load the nose

  13. With several feet of new snow since the weekend I figured today would be a good day to finally get some legit pow turns.

I was not disappointed! 18" in 24 hrs and 7"+ overnight at 24* it was awesome. Gave the Nomad a good work out for about 3 hrs .

Unfortunately mid-winter break put a ton of people on the hill and it got tracked out pretty quickly. All of the stashes that have been

lacking coverage were good to go and tons of fun. After a ton of mediocre days this season today was great. Back up this weekend

but it looks like the storms will be done tomorrow. Groomers should be good though and I may even break out the hardboots. Back down to

Hood for the next 2 weekends.

  14. I was able to demo this board at last years SES , i ended up ordering a slightly wider ( 26 ) version of the 169 and Sean was very accommodating

After the megastorm this weekend i got up to the hill and was greeted with 2+ feet of medium weight powder , not quite sierra cement but not blow up in your face powder either.

The huge setback in the inserts freaked me out at first but i figured i'd trust the builder and set my bindings up accordingly . Turning in powder was very effortless without needing to lean back at all ( setback again) when the snow got choppy the board handled great and was easy to throw around.

The biggest surprise was that the board carved shockingly well !!

This is an A+ board , count me as a very satisfied customer :o

Finally the Pacific NW is getting enough snow to bring out some of my new boards, The first is the Nomad 169. Rode it the past 2 days at Timberline in lots of heavy new snow. Performed flawlessly, turns on a dime and no way to stuff the nose. Much to my surprise,

carves a lot better than I would have imagined. Did not ride it with hardboots, Solomon Malamutes and Now bindings. 169 with a 26 waist and 8-13 sidecut. Another gem from Sean. Also rode a my new Kessler 176 Ride with Burton Diodes and Bomber power plates. Once the new snow was tracked this thing was unstoppable, plowed through the chop in the rain like a hot knife through butter. Can't wait to get both these in more favorable conditions. Can't say enough good things about the power plates for soft boot carving. I have several pairs of Catek free rides and much prefer the Diodes with the Power plates. Just awesome. Next up will be the new Donek free carve 176 with td3 step ins and the ( new to me ) Tinkler 185 with TD3. I'll stay with the soft boots until it stops snowing!

  15. I rode at Timberline Thursday for the 8 th day in a row. Palmer was the best i have seen it in a long time. Aside from

the super flat light, the grooming was excellent and there was actual snow, not hard pack, ice, frozen granular or

slush. Started out on the lower mountain and it was ok for maybe 1.5 hrs but it warmed up fast and the granular

turned to slush over cobbled hard pack. Those without wax were hurting. Went up to Palmer to check it out and found it to

be awesome. Every other day this trip I've had 2 or 3 set-ups with me, with at least 1 alpine board. For some reason

I did not think it would be worthy so I only brought the Donek Saber 170. Had a lot of fun with it but almost drove back to Welches to get the hardboots. Will finish this trip off today with what looks like a 2"-3" of new and will not be back untill

conditions improve. Lesson learned, always pack a hardboot set-up.

  16. Bryan,

i couldn't see Paying for a day at Meadows given the conditions, so wound up at T -line again Mon-today.

Monday was pretty slushy all day everywhere, 3 hrs in hardboots, 3 in softboots. Only 2 runs on the new Donek

to get my stance and the TD 3 step ins dialed, then back to the 10 year old Donek I picked up last season. Going to wait on the Tinkler for better conditions. Went out to Meadows Tuesday after 2 hrs at T-line in the fog, rain and mist to pick up

my " club card". Base area is pretty depressing, dirt on stadium and exposed rocks and shrubs visable all over.

T -line today was pretty good considering. Once the frozen, groomed granular gets skied off its pretty much down to

un- edgeable hardpack/ ice. Mile held up pretty well, they could not get Palmer open. I'll finish this trip up at T-line

the next 2 days then head back to Seattle. Dont know if you got the pics of the Hot Blast i wanted to trade. Let me know.

  17. First day on hardboots this season. Hard pack and real deal ice. Once i established trust in my set up I was able to rail turns with confidance. Palmer was frozen golf balls over hardpack, no so good but the mile and Norman were pretty damn fun. More of the same tomorrow and for the next week. May venture to Meadows on Monday.Glad I stumbled on to Bomber and got introduced to alpine snowboarding. I'll never give up the soft boots but i sure have fun w/ the hardboots. Now we just need more snow so i can bring out the new stuff.
