1. Evening

snow was fast and carveable but rough snow towards bottom of crossroads. rock hard ice towards the chair. it seemed colder than yesterday.

I'm jealous of the Buck Hill snow conditions... The whole hill at Powder Ridge was so hard packed and rough it was unrideable this evening.

  2. Agreed. You also cannot tell that the hills we have here in MN are quite small;)

Did the return to Earth when your nose popped out hurt? I can feel the chatter on my shins just looking at that.

Here's the video from the run, my tail didn't break free so it wasn't that bad, but lost a lot of speed. It happen around 21 seconds.

  3. I used the Gopro for a few runs in the morning on Wednesday, I forgot how hard it was to ride while trying to hold a camera on a stick. The camera was pointed too high, but I got a couple good photos.

Neat picture, but the carve didn't end that well, notice the nose of my board is a few inches off the snow

I moved my back binding to the furthest apart slot tonight, so now stance width is about 20.5". Felt a little awkward at first, conditions at Powder Ridge were decent so I don't know if it was better or not, would have been nice to tried while riding gates at Buck on Wednesday.

  4. Sunday morning was perfect, everyone who slept in missed out! The wind started picking up in the evening, and came in gusts.

I measured my Factory Prime and the bindings are 19" apart. A Donek Rev or Coiler NSR sound pretty tempting right now... I really don't know what I would want for a length... 175, 178... 180?

  5. I think a 6 degree in the back is the way to go with TD3s, I have my back cant rotated 15 degrees from the 'standard' setup to give more cant and less lift but my rear binding it rotated to 60 degrees. My front is set to give all toe lift and at 70 degrees. I really felt canting the front foot made my heal edge carve less stable. Between the heal lift in my boot and toe lift in the front binding, I think overall I end up with a slight lift in the heal which I guess is not the 'right way' But I think I kind of ride my snowboard like I ride my dirt bike, which is all about getting weight on your front tire to turn.

I'm planning to out at Buck bright and early tomorrow.

  6. Went to snowmass. Demo day. Trent asked Bruce to pick out a board that would stop me from riding like a pussy. I am having mental issues going down steeps. Don't want to fall down. i have pain in my right side near the chest and arm pit when i get up from sitting down on snow.

Demo'd a coiler nirvana. It looks similar to Erik's board. It's 174 length with 12/14 vsr. I liked it a lot. Also rode this 170-ish coiler with 11sidecut. I could not carve it to save my life. Not sure why.

It was snowing early morning then it got sunny.

To my LinkedIn contacts... Endorse me for snowboarding or alpine snowboarding if comfortable and if possible. That endorsement thing is a joke. Got a few endorsements from contacts that i barely know. Am I suppose to reciprocate?

You try out some other cant disks/binding setups? You still want to go flat with the rear foot?

  7. I hope no one copies this mod. This is not how they were engineered to be used. Get the proper center discs , not worth the risks.

Worth this risk for me, the alternative would be to look my snowboard instead of ride it. Not ideal, but the mod has been sound. And hence the purpose of this thread, to get the proper disks, which has proven to be an elusive task.

  8. So the difference between the TD2 and TD3 E-rings is 4.5 mm, so I just need to shim a TD2 disks 4.5 mm, I'm thinking something nylon would work well.

This is what I'm using now, filed out a notch in the middle holes, counter sunk them. Drilled third hole, added a 1/4" slab of aluminum, and counter sunk that.

  9. The two main differences are the footprint of the boot, and the ankle action.

Snowboard boots try to minimize the size of the heel/toe so they don't hang over the board and drag in the snow when carving. Take a look at the sole of the heel on a hard snowboard boot, it is further forward then where your heel sits. If you have small feet, or a wide board this might not be an issue if using ski boots.

Ski boots are generally very rigid on the ankle, they don't move at all. I would say most carvers prefer some amount of flex in a boot front to back. As you are push/pull carving, bending your knees and straightening them, you will want your ankle to bend and straighten as well. The "right amount" of flex from a snowboard boot is very dependent on the rider's personal preferences and riding conditions.

  10. Here is a picture of the ones I have - they look like they'd work, but not sure if there are interchangeable... Someone on this forum will know for sure. What's a fair price for selling these?

I'll take the TD2 disks if you're selling them, let me know your price. TD3 and TD2s use the same cant disk, the difference is the depth of the center disk, I will just need to covert to 16 mm bolts instead of 20 mm bolts.

  11. Trollhaugen is open till 3:00 am tomorrow night. 3:00pm to close $30, 10:00pm to close $15. They have a few runs open, I haven't been there yet this year so I don't really know what the conditions will be like but it looks like they have a pretty good base from the pics they posted on facebook and they got a little snow Thursday night.

I'll be out there carving it up later in the evening, hopefully it gets a good grooming in the morning.
