  1. If you have a bit of time tonight, before going to the hot tub, crack open a beer or three, put your board down on the leaopord skin rug in front of the fireplace at the condo, and clip in. Try and make sure that your set up is comfortable in a static setting. Try this before having too many beers. Try out some different angulations and see what feels awkward and what doesn't. If you have been to see Fin today you probably already feel awkward, but beer will help.

    What I was triing to convey in my earlier post about canting was I think was made more clear by others, try and set it so that the canting is only lifting your front toe and raising your rear heel as opposed to laterally angulating either boot towards the nose or tail of the board.

    I like the steer the motorcycle analogy, but I'm not sure i would get so caught up in the coutersteer thought.

    While on the board, trashing the condo rug, get a feeling for how the motorcycle steer translates to rotational pressure on the boot. Also notice that the more your legs are bent the sooner the rotational force is felt.

    For getting turns initiated think also of using your lead knee to steer you into the turn and get pressure on your front boot cuff, sort of a lateral movement for heelsides, more of a bend/flex for toeside.

  2. Proceed immediately to the Copper ski school desk and ask for Sean Mccarron, don't let his smell or wily accent scare you. He is a great hardboot instructor and will provide you with all sorts of good info. As far as setup, start by checking out your stance width, initially don't go much wider than the width that you end up at jumping up and down off the board. Next I would suggest more angulation on the front foot vs. the rear, also try the canting in a different position to achieve more of a toe / heel lift respecively and see if that has any effect. It's not uncommon to feel restricted the first days on a hardboot setup. Also bring a tool with you when you go to the hill so you can stop and adjust if it feels like a change is needed.   3. Up for sale is a Donek Freeride 180, used and slighty abused, but not too badly.

    I think I am the third owner, origionally built for KenO, I bought her from tpalka a few years back and have only ridden it a handful of times.

    There is a small 3/4" indent of edge and slight dimpling of the base on the nose of the board, the indent looks pretty minor, and is not delaminating. Even though it did not look breached, it I added a bit of hi zuit epoxy to the sidewall area just to make sure it was sealed. The board is otherwise in fine condition with general scuffing, a few base and edge dings, none of which are major.

    Specs are available on the Donek site, model is the Freeride 180 Delrossi http://www.donek.com/specs.htm . Great all mountain big freeride board that is stiff enough to be a confident carver.

  4. You may be out the door already but check out skinnyski.com, it's a great trail report resource. The nordic conditions at most centers are even dicier than alpine conditions in most places. Hyland might be a good place to check out also as they are pretty good about frequent grooming. I went out and did some nordic yesterday and it was sort of like an ice baja in underpants, luckily no one got hurt, physically at least. Tom

  5. This may not be constructive but I'm still a fan of the old old Donek bird logo and really love plain but tech looking tops. How about a clear top sheet with the carbon sheet showing through and a simple logo?

    Of the options so far, I liked 1 and 2 of JK's but it would be nice to get a more full image of the bird as I sort of had to stare at it a while to get the image. Perhaps with the bird in smaller scale or more centered and on the nose, I dunno, guess I'm thinking of the older donek base graphics but slightly morphed.

    I'm guessing the bird in JK's design is clear and we would be seeing the carbon sheet below?

  6. I hope I don't regret this but since they have become showpiece fixtures in my basement as opposed to actual riding tools, I am selling both my 188 and 197 burners.

    Purchaced both of them used a few years back and rode each about half a dozen times.

    Both are in great shape, no tail tweaks or cracks.

    The 188 probably saw a bit more use before I got it than the 197. There are a few top sheet dings from binding bails and a slight cosmetic wave in the top sheet which I could not really capture in a picture. Base and edges of the 188 are in fine shape, still plenty of camber left.

    The 197 came with a factory tune still on it, super deep rilling which has lasted a multiple waxings. There is a reapaired base ding, 3-4" long near the left edge, forward of the front binding mounts, but not affecting the edge, faintly visible in the pictures. Camber is like new. A few minor top sheet binding dings but nothing major. Both currently have a coat of storage wax on them.

  7. My post was pure speculation based on MUD's post regarding ticket refunds ( btw, nice moto MUD )and the crazy stuff that went on at Welch last year. It was not my intention to start a scandal. It is amazing there is not more crossover from other sports, waterskiing, sailboarding, couch surfing, etc.

  8. Go for the 197, just make sure to mount the bindings forward and get tons of speed before starting that first turn. I can get about three turns in on my 197 at our local 300 vert ft. hill here, it takes about half the run to get to speed, a few quick turns then frantic braking on ice. love it!

    I met up with an ex-Minnesotan now Sandpoint resident visiting family here in Minneapolis while riding bikes off road yesterday. He really gave me the, "time to escape flatland" bug. MMMmmmmmm snow. I really gotta check out the NW this winter!!
