  1. afton should be mostly clear of racers this weekend. ussa kids are at giants all weekend, d-team kids are at coffee mill on sat, and welch sunday. chair 2 may still have some racers, but 1, 3, and 7 should be free to play on (unless there's some event i don't know/care about).

  2. i agree that it suck the good runs are covered in gates..... but mud is absolutely right. better to have the hill closed than have all the jerrys coming through the course, or worse, cutting across the course. i see it all the time, even with the hills roped off.

it will be crowded with race practices tomorrow. i'll start on a board, but may not be on one long depending on what's available. smart kids will also have other options in their car. bobble, you've been warned. again.

  3. RESCHEDULED!!!! next week, weds feb 6.

i had enough below zero temps this weekend at ski races in lacrosse. plus looks like welch and wild have posted they're closed tues - thurs this week. the other hills will probably follow suit. (afton has cancelled beer league racing sun-weds already).

now go enjoy the (barely) above zero temps today.

  5. wow, what a fun day! thanks everyone for coming out to play!

thanks to bob and dave to taking, and posting, some picts.

sorry i was so lazy this year that i didn't: start a thread here; check the thread here; take picts; take video. nor did i give my safety speech. at least i still bring plenty of sugar and make kissy faces at bob when he's taking picts. ;-)  i'd say i'll do better next year, but if it's blue skies and awesome snow again, the only thing i can promise is sugar overload. too fun carving AND seeing!

sorry dave. i was out of town. i think if you saw the hill from the 35W you'd kept on driving. save your board!

went out saturday. not looking good on milkrun. crossroads was better but there are areas where brown patches with rocks are showing.

the cord was thin and snow was fast.  upright riding. the only run i really liked was the backside run.

it was brutally cold. i wasn't dressed warm enough for the windchill.

LOL! i gotta check bomber more often! nice one bobble!

  7. ugh. the snow absolutely sucks right now. i was at afton all weekend, and it's way too soft to hold any sort of aggressive carving. sure, we COULD right more upright, but that isn't the picts i posted above! ;-)

let's reschedule. i'm checking with afton right now on the next few weds to make sure there isn't any big events on their calendar. once i hear back, i'll reset the date. right now, i'm hoping for weds, 2/1 as it looks like the snow has a chance to be in decent shape again by then.

  8. it's almost that time of year again. the testing of who can get the lowest, who can smile the biggest, who can last the longest, and who can eat the most sugar after lunch! oh wait, there's also the contest between bobble and bionicman for the camera curse award! :biggthump

weds, FEB 1, 2017 9:30am - ?  (and i have NOT seen the lift started before 9:30 yet this year. silly vail policies/rules)

afton alps www.aftonalps.com lift tickets are $48 on the preferred program, $53 not on the program

bring your lunch or money to purchase food. as usual, there will be plenty of homemade food from the sugar group.

invite everyone you know who gets mad anytime they leave more than a pencil line in the snow! or anyone who wants to leave only a thin line.

  9. thanks for the fun day everyone!

it's going to take me a few days to get some picts posted. i took 1100+! i quickly went through them, and it's down to 600. sheesh, i've got to get A LOT better at shooting; the "spray-and-pray" method is filling my hard drive. ;-)  plus, i don't know if mine will be much better than bob's. the light really sucked! i think i'll try to find the best few shots, and get those posted. maybe i'll load the rest on picasa or somewhere so if you're inclined, you can look at all of them.

anyways, thanks for coming out to play! always more fun to make turns with other carvers. :1luvu:
