SOOO much better than stock! Still need some tweaking, but I know i can ride for at least 60 minutes without having to unbuckle buckles. The weather has gone to shite...trying to get up and out tomorrow morning for some early morning runs in at Bellayre to get things dialed in...we shall see.

Have you ridden your new setup yet? If so, what’re your thoughts?

  2. Exactly, I’m referring to the euro carving style. Flexion/extension has been around for quite some time.

Pow4ever started the thread by asking about if there’s a more relaxing way of carving. The reason for my curiosity is that I met an Austrian carver at Hunter, NY that has to be in his 70’s. His carving was very graceful, fluid and seemingly (key word) effortless. I chatted a bit and did a couple of runs with him, his style was pure rotational/euro style. We did a steep run together, I followed  his style and for me it was quite a bit easier to carve a slope which I’ve had trouble with in the past.

I realize the bomber/euro styles are two different camps, just looking for peoples thoughts.

    thanks

  3. Looking to try someplace different to carve and a place for my girl to practice her snowboarding (beginner).

What are the thoughts on one vs the other as far as carving for me and beginner practice/lessons for her?

    Looking to go midweek

    thanks

Riding the Northeast USA, mainly New York ski resorts like Hunter, Windham, etc,

Me too, my whole life. The most important lesson to learn is that you Can Not, Absolutely Can Not ski/ride Hunter or Windham weekends/holidays. I find it impossible to focus on my technique when I’m constantly thinking that some bonehead is going to come screaming down the mountain and hit me, it’s happened a few times. Weekdays are fine, however the moron factor is exponentially greater on weekends. Stay away.

I would follow others advice and see how much can be changed with my setup before I bought a new board. Also, change when and where you ride. Go to the smaller family mountains where the kids stay on the lower part, and the “cool kids” don’t like. There are several in the area.

UPZ's with Palau liners and Hotronic heaters for sub-zero f riding.

I’m with Pat on this one. I’ve had my Hotronics M4+ model for about 7 years, still going strong. Easy to switch into different liners and your insole of choice, don’t really notice the heating element under your toes. It’s easy to get replacement parts if needed. Best money I ever spent for gear.

my appointment next week with Greg at Ski Barn in Wayne, NJ. I have no time, nor interest in trying to buy liners, get em home and work them to fit my foot

This is exactly what I meant by customizing your boots. Does Greg have Intuition? If so which ones and sizes. You might want to call/stop there before and try on the liners if he does have them in stock. If not, get them from somewhere else. Pointless to go there without having your liners ready. It’s too late now to order liners from Palau, they won’t be here in time for Wednesday.

Greg charges something like $30 for convection oven molding and $20/boot punch. A wise and economical choice.

@pow4ever Try Greg at ski barn, it’s on the way to Mountain Creek.

Direct from Palau website, free ship no VAT. Don’t over research the liners, just get a pair. Read daveos’s description of the liners and choose one for your needs. Can’t decide which one to get? Order two models, the price will be a little more than one pair of Intuition. Added bonus: you can get rid of the foot funk infested liners and insoles you currently have 🙂

@SHREDSURF I’m trying to go in the next few days, let me know where and when you decide. Maybe we can have @pow4ever meet up too, that would be great. The three of us could share our equipment/technique issues with one another...lol Maybe Belleayre? Not as crowded and fewer NYC boneheads (like me) than other close mountains.

Trying to free up some time this week to get everything set, but the real job seems to be getting in the way of my free time!!

What’s your thought on the fit and liners? If you believe you will get thermos, I’d suggest ordering Palau directly. They ship next day, USPS, 6 days to nyc, cost $115. I got the alpine power fit, nice fit with UPZ. They come in half sizes also. Take this time to get the boots customized.

Ps. Looks like kneel bought a similar board to yours 🙂

  8. Lol, just joking pow.

On the serious side, I need to use foot powder to stop sweating in all my shoes. I’ve tried every powder known to mankind (I believe). The Only one which works for me is Desenex Powder (not spray!!), Walmart stocks it. Recommended it to a few people, they told me it changed their life..ymmv. Or it could be the footbed that’s singing “We got the Funk”.

The other day I wore 2 new socks eurosock on left foot, Smartwool on right. I think the eurosock felt more comfy, less sweaty.

Now back to our original programmed thread:

Today should be the day Shredsurf receives the final piece to the puzzle...

    We’re all waiting

I am totally going to see a professional IF the liners suck as everyone says they will...just need the boots to find out!

Don’t know if anyone mentioned another benefit of thermos, they are toasty warm! Rode in my Palau the other day and my feet were super warm. Even if the stock liners feel good, I doubt they’ll  be nearly as warm. Ditch the toe warmers...

  10. I took Jack M’s advice on heating the entire liner (oven method), the result of the outer liner molding to the boot does make a difference.

If you aren’t confident about diy, most places in the ny, nj area charge $20-30 max. The important thing is that they use a convection oven, not the blower which only heats the inside. Ski barn (near you), has a convection.

For a first time molder (if that is you), I would spend the $ on a fitter. You dont know if you’ll have other fitting issues which need to be addressed. After watching how they do it, you can do it yourself the next time if needed. That’s what I did.

Watching the sloooow trek of my UPZ boots across the country is pure TORTURE...

Ten days... looks like the UPS driver is taking the scenic route. It seems like shipping from Washington state to NY or NJ takes longer than shipping from Europe.

Actually, kind of expecting you to hate the boots due to the liner.

I’m with daveo. You could get a pair of Palau liners from France, direct from their site. Almost $100 cheaper than Intuition, same if not better quality. No tax or shipping charges, I got mine in 6 days to NYC. They might even be at your house before the boots come...

  12. I had snowpro’s with no binding cant, seemed ok but I couldn’t really bend too well. Pressure on medial side of back calf made it harder to get low. Got Ibex with the rear cant plate, more comfortable for my legs, easier to bend.

I'm not sure if I really like the rear cant and would like to switch back to flat, no binding can’t. Just trying to figure out if I can make it more comfortable.

    Thank you.
